Bombas socks - they "donate" a pair for everyone you purchase. B.S.

Recommended Posts

Anyone have a problem with this?

https://bombas.com/pages/giving-back

"THEY" don't donate sh!t.  The consumer is the one that donates the pair when they buy a pair not Bombas.  Bombas wouldn't be giving sh!t away if no one purchased any socks.

Their slogan should be this "You buy a pair of socks from us for $6 that we could sell you for $4 and still meet profit margins, but instead of giving you the cheaper price, we gouge you, and then use the extra money you gave us to give a pair to someone else."

We really need to stop feeding and clothing the homeless.  It just breeds more. Like cats.

Maybe they had a bad production run recently?  Wound up with a bunch of socks they were going to throw away.  Instead of doing that, raise prices and give away the socks that had issues to a homeless shelter.  Make themselves look good AND boost profits at the same time.

Preach!  The whole thing is just a way to drive business.  They don't give a shìt about charity.   It's a great business model.

It's like the supermarket nonsense of "would you like to add a dollar for whatever". Lemme see, I add a dollar, you give that dollar away and end up with a huge tax writeoff using other people's money. I applaud you for the effort, sir, but I will keep my dollar.

I dunno, I mean if they were literally giving half their inventory away for nothing they wouldn’t last too long. So I think it’s kind of understood that you may be paying more for it. To me the issue would be if they don’t actually do it.

They could be selling their socks for $6 without donating anything. :dunno:

Yea their socks are way overpriced.  They don't even use retail stores so they get all the profit.  It's good for them.

Arby's always has a cause, asking fot a dollar.  Usually it's for the black children in Atlanta.  How about the owner donates his own money instead of the customers.  It doesn't even help  kids in my city.  I don't go to Arby's anymore.

Who cares? If someone isn't smart enough to price shop and determine if paying extra is worth someone else having socks, then that's their own problem

They get to poop and shoot up wherever they want in some places now. Isn’t that enough?

I buy my socks at Walmart like 12 pairs for $10 or something so they are not getting my money.  I do not have a problem giving a few extra $ at the grocery store or whatever.  I know they get credit, but I never think to give money except to the local animal shelter so the way I look at it is I would not remember to give some money away if they did not ask me so I do not mind.  They should do a study because I think the cuter the cashier the more people give.

In theory they do not really get a tax break.  If they collect $20,000 in donations and say they just add the money to sales then they make $20k more profit and pay tax on that money.  Then when they give 20k out they get to deduct that from their bottom line so it should be a wash.

I know a guy who founded a company built around some automated pet food dispenser.  He would give interviews for online pet magazines talking about how he founded the company because he was so concerned about the health of pets.  We would get together and he would laugh and tell us he doesn't give a shìt about pets.  He's just trying to make money.

That's all this stuff is.  They're playing on sucker's emotions so they can get rich, and a never-ending stream of suckers line up to give them money.

True dat. They ride the line closely, as to not make it too obvious.

What if McDonald's started saying "Buy a cheeseburger, we GIVE 3 cheeseburgers to the needy.  By the way, cheeseburgers are $15."   In this case, even the dumb consumer would see through it.

This is true also.

I just wanted to point it out.  Everyone nowadays is "giving" something away to a 3rd party with a purchase.  That just tells me that they either are overpricing the product or they cut corners to create a sh!tty product that that can still sell.

Meh.

I also get upset over free college.  And "student debt forgiveness".  One way or the other, someone else ends up footing the bill for free stuff.  And its always fine with people, as long as  "its someone else".

I paid my college loans, that debt forgiveness needs to be retroactive.

Yep.  If they "forgive" someone else's loans, you and I should get back what we paid.

Here's the long and short of it....

  • The socks are over priced because the company doesn't actually want to DONATE the socks.  Whether people know this or not, is irrelevant.
    • The people who know and think Bombas is full of crap, won't buy the socks.
    • The people who know and don't care, figure... 'so what, I don't mind donating a pair of socks'.
    • The people who don't know, well, they're just stupid.

In the end, you'll fall into one of these 3 categories.  I'm category one because $3 per pair is excessive.  If they dropped to $1.50 per pair, I'm in.

I'm calling it now.  Loan forgiveness will happen and the one's who paid off their loans will want their money back as well.  Since the mass majority of those people will be white, the government will say "sorry about your luck".   Then, after a Republican is back in the White House, the Democrats will support a group of minorities who will complain about systemic racism saying that they paid off their loans, but should get that money back.  Democrats will then support minorities getting their money back.  Then, stupid liberals who were complaining at the beginning, will have to shut up and accept it, or be racist.  Then, on top of pretending that the Dems didn't raise your taxes to pay off the current people in debt, you're going to have your taxes raised again to pay people who complained with you, but you see nothing.

People like you are actually the point.  You think/pretend, that BOMBAS is the one helping people.  They're not, even though they're telling everyone they are.  The people buying the socks are the ones actually helping people.

But that's painfully obvious, isn't it?  It says on the website, you buy a pair, we donate a pair, right?  They are only gonna donate when you buy.  They are the ones that are taking your money and buying socks for people.  It's obvious when you pay $10 for a pair of socks that some of that money is going to buy socks for other people.

I kind of said that in my first post.  Just scroll up like 5 posts.  The issue I believe with people is that Bombas is taking credit for the ones donating the socks.

That's the scam.  Bombas, on top of not paying for the donation, is getting the tax write off for the donation.

But it's not a scam.  It's a corporation making a donation.  This happens with every corporation.

It's marketing.  Same with those Tom's shoes.

Bombas doubles their sock sales and their income and gets to deduct taxes by attributing some of their profits as donations.  Bombas is communist and this is socialized socks sales.
