I was getting dressed on my wedding day and realized I didn’t own dress socks. Woolworth to the rescue. And I got a hot dog at the counter as well.

It was a hybrid of the founders names.  Then someone wrote a book about some black kid sambo.  Ruined the business.

I worked here in High School.  They used to let us take games home and play with them, it was awesome.

Woolworth

wrong in all respects.

1.  there are Woolworths retail stores in Australia.  They were never affiliated with the American F.W. Woolworth stores in the US though.  The name Woolworths was not trademarked in Australia so someone took the name and opened their own chain there.  But if you want to go to one in 2020, you can.

2.  the corporation actually still exists intact.  Corporations branch out and establish subsidiaries.  One of Woolworth's subsidiaries was Foot Locker.  The corporation never disappeared, they just changed their name to Foot Locker.  So if you want to go visit a Wooloworth corporation store that can trace its lineage to the original F W Woolworth stores, you can just go to a Foot Locker in 2020.  In fact, Foot Locker is considering branching out to establish retail stores again, so its possible Woolworth retail stores owned by the original corporation may return in the 2020s.

3.  There is still one Woolworth's store open in the US in Bakersfield, CA.  It is no longer affiliated with the F W Woolworth corporation.  But you can go there and even eat at the diner.

So any way you want to define it, Woolworths is still around.  The corporation still exists under a different name, there are Woolworth stores in Australia, and there still exists an independently owned Woolworths in Bakersfield CA.

The Outerbridge Crossing toll plaza is about 70 miles from where I now sit in Fishtown.

You must be one hell of a driver. :shocking:
