The US intelligence community released a long-awaited report Friday on what it knows about a series of mysterious flying objects, or UFOs, that have been seen moving through restricted military airspace over the last several decades.

The report said defense and intelligence analysts lack sufficient data to determine the nature of mysterious flying objects observed by military pilots including whether they are advanced earthly technologies, atmospherics or of an extraterrestrial nature.

A senior U.S. official, asked about the possibility of extraterrestrial explanations for the observations, said: "That's not the purpose of the task force, to evaluate any sort of search for extraterrestrial life. ... That's not what we were charged with doing."

The Pentagon has released a new report on UFOs that revealed hundreds of documented incidents of unidentified and unexplained aerial phenomena (UAPs).

While there is no evidence to suggest that these UAPs - the government's term for UFOs - are of extraterrestrial origin, some defy explanation, including a near-miss between a commercial airliner and a mysterious object off the coast of New York.

The report comes as public interest in UAPs has skyrocketed, prompting the US government to work to provide some answers about these strange objects.

It was published one day after House lawmakers called for greater government transparency during a hearing on UAPs. 

The Pentagon's review detailed 757 cases of UAP encounters that were reported to US authorities mainly between May 1, 2023 and June 1, 2024. That total includes 272 incidents that occurred before that time period but were not previously reported.

Reporting witnesses included commercial and military pilots as well as ground-based observers.  

The majority of these incidents occurred in airspace, but 49 took place at altitudes estimated to be at least 62 miles above Earth's surface, which is considered space.

No injuries or crashes were reported in any of the incidents. But a commercial flight crew reported one near miss with a 'cylindrical object' while flying over the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of New York. That incident is still under investigation.

The movie is great. John Carpenter directed and is a takedown of the excesses, commercialism, and Reaganomics dominated policies of the 1980's. It features some great music, lines, and a great fight scene.

I suppose it depends on the religion or sect those people are connected to. It would be difficult to reconcile certain biblical passages with the arrival of non-human interstellar intelligence. 

My biblical knowledge has all but disappeared, so I cannot offer any of those passages as evidence. But going by those evangelicals I know, I don't feel as though it would be welcome news.

The Bible is the story of what God did on earth.  It doesn’t say that he didn’t create any life anywhere else.  Extraterrestrial life is compatible with the Bible.

If you were God, would you only put life in one place in the whole vast universe?  That’d be like having a 1 acre backyard and having just a single potted plant out there in the whole thing.

It's approximated that there is up to 2 trillion Galaxies. Of course there's extraterrestrial life somewhere but probably not what we think of as life or close enough to us where they could visit Earth.

Meh what are you gonna do.  It's not like you all haven't heard the schpeel.  Either you believe, or you don't, or... maybe it changes later, but that's between you all and the big guy.  It's an individual thing.

I don't think preaching AT people will change folks mind.  Rather it's counter intuitive and can push folks away or cause resentment.

I'm very much a believer and will chat with anyone about it who is searching, but I'm not persecuting others.  You can't force someone to listen and believe.

Yeah it's not a new theory.  An old sci-fi author wrote about it: “Childhood’s End” by Arthur C. Clarke.

I've heard or read about the theory for quite awhile, ie decades.  I want to say Tucker Carlson has espoused the theory farily recently.
