Sounds like only 1 confirmed dead 50 something people pulled out of the rubble.  I don't know how the hell that is possible looking at that building.

I'm a cynic with things like this.  The building is 40 years old... it wouldn't just collapse.  I read that there had been roof work done in the last 30 days.  If that caused it, there had to be some signs/sounds that would cause be some tenants to inquire about it a while ago.  I'm calling shenanigans.  I think someone intentionally sabotaged something.  Now, I'm not saying their intent was to bring the building down, but I think they tried to cause noticeable damage.

That does seem hard to believe. Do we know how many are missing? I’d have thought scores of fatalities…

Controlled demolition to create mass casualties of Floridians.  Biden will now step in and question Ron Desantis and his building codes.  CNN, MSNBC, etc. get the ball rolling on smearing Desantis as unfit for office because he doesn't care enough about the public to make sure apartments are habitable and up to code.  Desantis gets mocked every single night on Colbert, Daily Show, etc for 2 years until he decides he has no credibility to run for president.

Unlikely considering it's 40+ years old and has survived hurricanes.

I'm guessing it was poorly inspected in recent years and the engineer missed obvious cracks and warning signs.

That's skyscrapers.  They're built that way because of the size and weight.  This is a smaller 12-story building that's only special construction method is to be able to withstand hurricane winds.

The building was built 40 years ago.  If it was built wrong, it most likely would've happened longer ago.

Isn’t it fair to think it was likely built incorrectly in some manner? It’s not supposed to fall down. Not like someone took a wrecking ball to it or anything.

Even if it was some intervening issue like an earthquake or something, well a building should be built to withstand that where necessary.

I mean I guess there’s the possibility of like a gas leak causing an explosion or some purposeful sabotage, but absent that…

Sure, but I think that if there was some building/construction error/mistake/issue, it would've happened a long time ago.  It withstood 40 years of hurricanes, tropical storms, etc.  Out of the blue, it came down.  I have a hard time believing it's a structural issue.

Could there have been years of ignored maintenance?  Sure.  But I think there'd have been significant warning signs.

Now, I do believe that the new roof construction could've caused it, but I'd have a hard time believing that it was an issue with the original construction.

Certainly gotta look at any recent changes they’ve made as prime suspect. It seems hard to believe a roofing issue alone could cause something like that to occur but I’m by no means an expert
