Some here think teachers are paid too much.

Some teachers are paid too much and others are paid too little. That’s what you get with a bargaining unit.

43 pct truancy rate in Washington DC schools. Must be the funding. So glad Obama made it so you can’t discipline children of color anymore. It’s doing  wonders for them, and the country. School to prison pipeline!

We see this all the time in urban settings.  What arises is that the lower socioeconomic strata tend to be "stuck".  There is a culture that arises and it is not good.  One of the things we sought to do was work with community groups.  Mostly churches and youth organizations.  To offset the crushing oppression of a poisonous culture.

Interestingly one of the most effective groups was the Boy Scouts. As it turned out there are a number of elements in scouting that resonated, but also a number that were really chalenging for the kids to embrace.

Our goal was to offer them exposure to something other than what their families and friends were providing.  But I will admit, we did not succeed as much as we hoped. The draw of "street" or "hood" life is just too familiar and comfortable for them in many cases.

I think being molested would be a terrible thing.

The Boy Scouts a big thing in bigger cities?

The "Tickle Monster" badge is a relatively easy one to earn.  The "Gaped" badge on the other hand....

I would not really call it "a thing".   But we have been steadily trying to make it more available. The interest is there, not to the extent we would like, but there are a fair number of young men (and now young women) who are interested. It will often boil down to cost. And we have developed some creative ways to make sure money never stops a kid from access to scouting.

Another area we have worked really hard to expand is access for youth with special needs. Our area only had one scout troop for this ten years ago, and we managed to grow that to six now. There is a Disabilities Awareness merit badge, for which I am a counselor, and a requirement in there is to visit a troop such as one of these.  What emerged, to our surprise, was friendships between the scouts at these disparate troops.

So now these kids are visiting each others sporting events, church events, school events....on and on.  They get together on their own outside of events....its remarkable.

The benefits of a well-run troop are considerable, really for the adults as well.

That all sounds awesome- glad you are there and participating.   I'm just surprised whenever I see troops here, and I am in rural country.  I'd figure it's more of an uphill climb getting kids remotely interested in a city setting.    I love to read examples of those relationships you are talking of.

I have an idea....you seem to have a thought or a position, but are afraid to post it.  I would like you to just say what is on your mind, no one hear is going to hurt you.

Not that I am aware of.

I was listing that as a challenging thing for the kids to embrace. No more, no less.

But....molestation is a wrong....so....of course dealing with such a thing is a challenge. It was not a challenge that I was speaking to. Again, are you trying to make an assertion here, why dance around? What are you afraid of?

My mistake, it just appeared as though you were asking open-ended questions as if to imply something without actually saying it, and then produced a link without any explanation. If there is something you want me to know, I do not yet know that thing....:dunno:

Not at all. It broke my heart to see the scandal that happened with BSOA. Was of course not surprising.

Absolutely. And it continues to impact both them and many others.  While they implemented strong measures to ensure the protection of the youth; such as the 2-deep thing, YPT, sponsoring agencies have background checks in addition to BSA....on and on....

But, in order to deal with the law suits BSA has sold off tracks of land, that developers have gobbled up, much to the dismay of the environmentalists....so the damage has a bigger footprint was well.

Teachers leaving the job in large numbers. Not because of pay, parents or overcrowded classes. Because they are being attacked and don’t feel safe.

See now that is a real thing to get outraged over because that is so totally tone deaf that it defies rational thinking. Lady should be forced to go through the training they make all teachers go through about sensitivity and then fired.

Also- about 6 weeks ago there was a post put in here that I asked a bunch of questions about to try and have a dialogue and it was ignored. See that's the secret about outrage culture. People don't want to actually fix things, or discuss things. They just want to be outraged over and over again because by keeping the pot boiling you can keep people mad.

It's an addiction.

https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/jerkology/202108/maddiction-addiction-self-righteous-outrage

  • Maddiction is the addiction to getting mad at others for exhilarating exoneration.
  • The more outraged we are at others, the purer we feel. The purer we feel, the more we assume it's our duty to be outraged at others.
  • People might join a crusade because they believe in the cause. They often stay because they're maddicted.

A childless, radical left wing lesbian has had the most say over public education than anyone else over the last 30 years. Is it any wonder it’s gone to shitt? She cares more about politics and serving the leftist agenda than she does about the students.

I can see a context where I would let this one slide. Twelve is an appropriate age for a health class, I would expect kids to know about the digestive system or the respiratory system,  and that would include the reproductive system and the parts of it. A lot of kids learn by drawing.

Show me the rest of the book. If it's full of activities for sketching the ear, the liver, the heart.... I'm going to accept this assignment as legitimate.
