IAN IS COMING FOR FLORIDA! DOOMSDAY!

Recommended Posts

I've always thought it would be kinda cool to ride one out.  Of course with no risk.  No house to lose etc etc.

I used to live in Florida on the coast. People used to ride it out not because they wanted to, but because they wanted to protect their homes from getting looted. The wealthier homes were always cased by criminals days before an expected hurricane. The criminals didn't even try to hide it.

It is kinda fun, especially for kids who don't own anything. Howling winds and pounding rain that doesn't quit. The only thing that makes ya nervous are possessions - home/car.  Not a great feeling to hear your roof make weird creaking noises as the wind sounds increases to higher pitches going faster and faster.  And occasionally hearing a large thud outside and wondering... oh crap. What the hell was that?  Usually an oak tree taking out some fences or part of someone's roof.

At least, that's the case for inland Floridians. I've never experienced one while actually on the coast. Those people really take the beating.

Making a bee-line to Orlando.  Skip the tracker ahead and the eye projects to be over my house at 1 pm Thursday.

Everyone is getting ready - neighbors fixing gutters and trimming trees, lines at the gas station and many with gas tanks to run generators, stores running low on supplies.

Me? I got beer. Power will probably go out early Thursday, and then back on Friday morning at the latest. If I never post here again, it's because God smited me for being a pr*ck.

Best of luck! :o

The closest thing I've come to in describing it is going down to the hand-held car wash and holding the sprayer pointed sideways and blasting an inch from your face. That's what the world looks like, and the sound is exponentially louder.

Like pictures don't do justice to the Grand Canyon, you can't imagine the spectacular awesomeness of a major hurricane until you see one when the eye wall hits.

It never leaves your system. I've never quite gotten over what I witnessed during Hurricane Rita in 2005, with 125 mph sustained winds channeled through downtown Buttmont.

Relentless blasting with face-melting gusts.

So, are we not talking about Senator Biden refusing to talk to Governor DeSantis with the looming  devastation because he doesn't like Republican Governors.

Remember the riots in Portland where the mayor turned down national guard help from Trump? Because he is OMB.

Fock the US citizens and their businesses, OMB and all the republicans are white supremacists, racists, and fascists.  Screw the taxpayers.

I'm going to preserve this comment for when FEMA rolls in there and the federal government steps up to help Florida.

Riots aren't natural disasters, and this storm is going to make Portland-riots property damage look mighty small, by comparison, if the forecasts hold.

You're such a moron.

Yeah, put it in your notebook MDC. I don't know what you are talking about but you are right. The riots didn't have to happen but the violent  lefty liberals socialist democrats wanted them to.

Glad you admit it finally. You're such a moron.

Except one was easily preventable and the other is impossible to prevent. Moron.

Democrats already politicizing a hurricane. So now we wait for them to go after Desantis no matter what he does. Scum.

You say this as if Republicans don't do the same thing.  I'm sure your response will be, "They do but it's no where near as bad as the Democrats."

Politicizing a hurricane before it even hits? No I’m not aware of any republicans doing that. You’re attempt at an equalizer has failed once again, but I’m glad you acknowledge the democrats are doing it. Pure scum.

On that page, there is a link to a camera from Bonita Springs that looks from what appears to be a backyard gate right to the ocean.  if the power stays on, will be VERY interesting to see how the storm surge there comes in.

This is going to be a bad hurricane, not only is it giant and with fast winds it is going to stall over florida the same way harvey stalled over houston. This means lots of inland flooding is going to happen.

Florida is already super flat and at sea level.  It's going to be a mess.

I'm not that familiar with Florida geography, but is the flooding going to allow all those monstrous critters in the vast swamplands to be unleashed into Florida cities?

Wow, there are houses with no access via road on Captiva Island and its gonna take a direct hit. I assume all the houses will be totally under water and possible completely gone. They are getting 120 mph gusts right now. They got 10 more hours of hurricane force winds. Windy.com is amazing.

Well if the residents there didn't either have an evacuation plan in place, or have a stronghold of a house with generators and stocks of food and water, then they messed up in the head.

No, they are dead. That island will be under water. I just checked. If I'm reading google earth right, that island is at best 7 feet above sea level. The surge is 12' there.

They are on the pier.

Hopefully these nitwits all die and bodies are never recovered... Instead of having to be rescued, while they are cowering on a rooftop somewhere.
