Nearly 70% of Generation Z, people born between 1997 and 2012, say their mental health was adversely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, with 42% of adult members of the cohort reporting that they have been diagnosed with a mental health condition and many of them say they are worried about the future, a new study from data management firm Harmony Healthcare IT shows.

The study, which is based on a survey of 1,055 Gen Z members from the age of 18 to 24 in September, included 47% men, 45% women, 6% who identify as nonbinary, and 2% trans-identified individuals.

According to the report, some 57% of Gen Z adults struggling with their mental health reported taking medication to alleviate their condition and paying an average of $44 monthly.

The most frequently cited conditions were anxiety and depression which were reported by 90% and 78% of respondents, respectively.

We are so focked :(

Let's just move them all to a Democrat state and abort them.  They're ok with abortions after birth.  Problem solved.

https://alphanews.org/company-accused-of-employing-minors-to-clean-kill-floors-at-minnesota-slaughterhouses/

Investigators learned through interviews with the minors that they all spoke Spanish, the lawsuit explains. The minors were often required to work graveyard shifts and clean dangerous equipment with toxic chemicals, according to the complaint.

I think it would be perfect to make some of these GEN-Zers do a job like this for a month or two. I'm guessing the vast majority would rethink how bad things are.

You can spot them fairly easy as well. It’s like they are wearing a uniform.

Red Sox fan. That has to have had an affect during your formative years. The scars are still there.

Growing up in the 80s, the Bruins, Patriots and especially Red Sox did warp how I watch sports. The Celtics were glorious during those times. I will always remember the negative and the loses as there was so much more.

I have yet to get over 2004. I don’t think I ever will. It hurt my baseball experience, I admit it.

Let's face it Ed, you make Andrea Yates look like Mary Poppins.

I've seen piranhas with more parental instincts.

I mean even God sent his son to Earth with at least a fighting chance to live.

I don't sit and joke about mental illness as some people really do have problems with it.  But in today's world we coddle people into believing they are mentally ill.  Oh you are a lazy POS that doesn't want to work? You must have depression.   Oh you feel anxious at times? A totally normal thing for a human? Here you better take these pills to get over it.

Fock fixing your outlook and routine.  Just pop the magic pills.

Most people with mental illness are not poosys that need to just get over it, and most doctors won't just throw meds at you without some sort of counselling or therapy first, especially kids.

Where did I say MOST people "with mental illness" are poosys?

I basically said we are overmedicated.    Do you understand how easy it is for someone who is smart enough (over 16) to fudge a test for ADD and get adderall? It is as simple as it gets.  If you want adderall you can get it.

Maybe doctors are cracking down more and aren't as quick to hand over xanax like they were just 5 years ago. But you take out 10 random women under 35 and seemingly all of them are on some sort of depression or anxiety med.  How did our grandmothers survive life?

A good chunk of people who take these meds don't exactly need them.  They will live a crappy lifestyle of boozing and being irresponsible.   Then when they feel bad about their choices in life they will opt for a xanax to make it all better.

We are an overmedicated society.   That is just a fact.

I am not an old man like you.  Benzos and Addys are like bottles of water and a bag of chips today with people in their 30s or younger.  I have seen many of people screwed up by benzos.  Abusing benzos.

These young women today are so screwed up by social media.  Stare at theit phones all day long looking at other people's fake social media lives and get depressed about their own imperfect life.

Perhaps get off the social media and your anxiety will drop significantly.   Nah tho, can't do that.  Thats blasphemy in today's world.

No you can't get Adderall now, there is a nationwide shortage.

I agree we are over medicated.

I don't have any experience with Xanax or it's abuse but I'm sure it exists.

None of this should minimize what people who are actually suffering deal with.

You're correct, but it's not blasphemy, it's what everyone says, but it's not that easy.

You can't just tell a fat person to stop eating.  Or a drinker to put down the bottle.

IMO a big part of the problem is that we a country largely have decided we don't want to talk about it or deal with it (despite blaming it for many things).

Yes, we are overmedicated.  A lot of that is because Big Pharma dictates some discourse and our solutions are usually to pop a pill for everything or take medicine for everything.

There has been a big spike in suicides, especially females, starting at the time when we started walking around with our phones 24/7, so there is truth to what listentome said above.

We don't have the infrastructure for counselors and non-pharmaceutical methods:  Millions of kids go to a school without a counselor.   It takes months to get in to see a therapist.  I could go on an on.

Now, combine all that with people who are struggling being told they are weak pusses that just can't cope, and you foster a system where people don't want to admit it in the first place and wait too long to get help.

Especially when so many things for work and school are tied to those things.    It's not like we use the tech just for dicking around on SM.

Im not saying some people don't need them.  Even those that do sometimes end up abusing them.    I see a crazy amount of people with scripts of benzos(mostly women) and adderall (everyone).  In college you could easily go to the library and buy as many adderall as you wanted.   The straight edge Asians loved them.   People sell their prescribed pills all the time.  Because these people do not need them.  It is very common.

Well it sure is easy for crap parents to hand their young kids the ipad ot iphone to occupy them.   We train them from age 4 these days to be a slave to these devices.

It is easier than you think but no one wants to actually do it.

All we do is talk about it.  Sports figures talk about it.  Everyone talks about mental health these days.  Yet we seem to be more focked up now than when it was taboo.

It also sure is easy to blame on parents.   I had 0 intentions of getting my kid a tablet - then the school hands them out.   Maybe other districts are different, but here they give the kids Ipads starting at 1st grade.
