wiffleball 4,790 Posted January 6, 2023 Colorado is going through an egg crisis right now. Turns out, at the start of the year a law passed or enacted outlawing non-cage-free eggs and chickens. Just another case of government interference making life so much better. Eggs used to be an incredibly cheap source of protein. And if you look into it? Terms like free range and cage free and organic are pretty much worthless. Anyone can say basically anything. And if you're picturing a vast pasture where chickens roam freely as cage free or free range? You're sadly mistaken. Don't mess with breakfast. And a chicken coop and a bunch of hens and one rooster to your Doomsday prepping.

dogcows 1,030 Posted January 6, 2023 I’m also wondering why eggs have gone up in price so much more than all the other groceries. Chicken is the same price as 2 years ago here, as is beef. Just looked it up: bird flu killed a lot of egg-laying hens, causing a shortage. Makes sense, because even with the high prices, my local store was almost out of eggs last week. RLLD 4,230 Posted January 7, 2023 There was also an avian flu issue that killed off many of the birds. It is rarely a uni-varied influence that causes problems, but instead it is often a small set of problems and then incredible mismanaged response.

But you see, I’m of the belief, now call me crazy, that energy prices have a big affect on the cost of things. So when I see the prices of things go up, I know the Biden Admin is responsible for a lot of it.

The acknowledgement, by the current WH admin, that this flu was the cause.....and that it diminished supply.....which led to demand driving prices upward....means they know very well what they did to the energy markets.....and they didnt care. RLLD 4,230 Posted January 26 I used to have chickens, I enjoyed it to an extent. They were. Bit of work, and I did a cost benefit analysis, it was not a money saving venture. But fresh eggs are pretty good, only three hens but they each put out 2-3 eggs per day at their peak We decided to bit a few more hens and give it another go, planning to offer up the extras to family etc
