It's not March Madness if we aren't being force fed women's basketball

Recommended Posts

Anyone catch some of the commercials?  Two guys arguing who is the best at certain things.  Invariably, one of the guys has to bring up a woman and say she was the best ever at what the measurable is.

Now if I am discussing best basketball player, at any level, and my friend brought up a woman and tried to make her best ever..at anything..he wouldn;t be allowed to continue in the conversation.   Nope.

Also, the female announcers were generally not good.

Titled “Tache,” the ad follows the journey of a young woman learning to embrace unwanted facial hair by using Amazon Prime to find items, like clothing and music, that makes her feel empowered. Two forthcoming spots were directed by Michael Spiccia.

It seems that some of you guys are only interested in girls sports when a transsexual wants to compete. When that happens suddenly girls sports are a huge deal that need to be protected. Otherwise they’re being forced on us. Typical chauvinist bull crap.

Personally...I'm never interested in girls sports as a rule.   Cept Women's olympics events.  Those are cool

if its the coke zero? commercial it actually loses credibility immediately when the first guy suggest jordan poole is the best at steals. Jordan Poole. backup guard for the golden state warriors and is 23 years old. Good player but no.

It's a commercial and the female player is actually in it. I have no issues.

Also I think womens college basketball is somewhat tolerable. I appreciate their shooting ability. If you can't appreciate players like Sue Bird and Diana Taurasi, you don't actually like basketball... you just want to bitch about womens sports for the sake of it.

*disclaimer* I had a weird attraction to Diana Taurasi when we were in college. .. and YES, I know shes not "hot" or pretty but I think we all have those kind of one offs

It reminds me of when McEnroe (accurately) said Serena would be the 700th best men's tennis player in the world and everyone lost their shìt.

Oh I'm sure women's basketball is fine if you like that sort of thing.   The problem is trying to take that and somehow compare to the men.  It's unnecessary.  Play your game, be the best at it you can be, but stop using men as the measuring stick.

I don't care at all about WNBA and I don't make it a point to sit down and watch the womens college tournament because I don't have a bracket and bets riding on it. I was simply saying that the women who play college basketball have a lot of skill. More than most guys want to give credit for. They would rather just trash or mock it for the sake of doing so.

It's difficult to compare any male sport to female

I guess im just not sure why you think anyone is using the men as a measuring stick? A Coke commercial? I don't think anyone is measuring the two as much as both are happening simultaneously and both deserve recognition.

You should probably slow down,  and work a little bit on your reading comprehension.  I will try to explain again.

The dudes were talking about GOAT at certain aspects of the game.   And the guys would bring a woman's BB name into the conversation of GOAT.  That is comparing to the men's game.   Woman, to date, are not better then men in any GOAT conversation for basketball.  Doesn't matter at all what the measurable is.   Maybe one day, but not today.  So be good at what you do..that's fine.  But stop worrying how you compare to men.

I understood exactly what you meant.

I will try to explain again... you think people are using the mens game as a measuring stick because of a coke commercial? ... my point is, it's a commercial for a reason. A commercial during the most important time in college basketball for both men AND women. I think you're a little too hung up on it.

As i mentioned earlier, the first mens player they name as the best is a 23 year old 6th man for the Warriors. It's just a commercial, not a legitimate debate. I think you're reading way too much into it

Well let's see.  Since people made the commercial--  Shot it, edited it, reviewed it, and aired it.  yeah, I would say people are using the men as a measuring stick to compare the women to it.  And since this isn't the first time...as referenced by the McEnroe Serena debacle a while back.  I feel pretty confident that people are using it as a measuring stick.   Crazy I know.

Why:

Alvin Robertson 2.71 steals per game.

Michael Ray Richardson 2.63

Fatty Taylor 2.40

Michael Jordan 2.35

Tamika Catchings 2.35

Muggsy Bogues 1.5, but has whopping 1,400 in his 15 year career.

Jordan Poole 1.0 as a guy off the bench.

Why It's Dumb:

RogerDodger 3.25 if he played in the WNBA.

Didn't a bunch of people cry that we were making March Madness synonymous with the men's tournament, so they forced ESPN to make sure people said "men's tournament" and not just tournament and now they put the women's scores all over the home page to pretend it's just as important.

I would classify that as forcing women's basketball on us.  It's clear most people don't care about women's college basketball and that was clear in how we communicated, but then a bunch of folks stomped there feet to make people pretend they care.  It's also confusing as hell when I'm scrolling through scores and see sh¡t like LSU beating someone or something and it takes me a second of going WTF to realize, "Oh, this isn't the real tournament."

Some of the women's games have been pretty good...  At times I would much rather watch the women's game because they are more fundamentally sound and it isn't all dunks and clear-out the lane for an iso play every time down the court...

I like watching the women's game just as much as the men's game...

You are correct. It should just be March Madness because it will always be synonymous with the men's tournament. I'd never argue that it shouldn't be. Hell, they should really do away with the NIT. I get confused every so often seeing an NIT score and being like "wait, I don't remember so and so on the bracket but a lot of years they make it.... hmmm.... oh it's the NIT "

I just don't get why anyone is putting effort into worrying about a commercial

Remember when ESPN did a Field of 64 style poll about who had the greatest college career?  Those morons put women in there too.

No, but they included Sue Bird, Lisa Leslie, and others.

Morrison wasn't even good enough to be in over them!!

Jordan beat out Bird by less than 1% of the vote.

Hard to drum up much interest when you have one team at minus money against the field to win the whole thing before it starts.  Women's basketball is not that competitive, the gap between teams is too large.

Not interesting even if they were competitive, then add in the fact that they aren't competitive, and what do you get?

Liberals pushing liberal agendas. It's like watching road kill decay right before your eyes.

It used to be only a couple of teams, but there are more that have a shot to win the title now...  It has gotten much better, though it would be nice to see more and more teams compete, which will happen over time...

The WNBA doesn’t even use the same size ball as the NBA so there is no comparison between the two.

I have to say I’m still not going to watch a majority of a game, but judging by highlights the women’s game has gotten quite a bit better. The skill level is ramping up quite a bit.
