Where did our "division" as a country start? Spinoff (why is everything woke vs non-woke)

Recommended Posts

Obama started it up again. Race relations were better prior to his second term when he went all in on the divisive rhetoric.

That fat blob of hot air known as Rush Limbaugh galvanized and pushed them even further right, with his fear mongering and catastrophizing, and then you had the Grassroots moving of the 2010s, inching even farther right.

Trump not only carried the torch for all that and gave rural white people even more to stew about, but he smartly appealed to the evangelical Christians, which played a huge role in winning the 2016 elections, plus the disgust for Hillary and the Russian interference in that election.

The basic law of physics is that for every action, you have an equal and opposite reaction, which means Democrats getting pushed farther left and more extreme liberalism and thirst for socialism.

Both extremes suck, but MAGAturds represent this country's most divisive issue today.

This opinion piece does a good job of explaining it.

LOL a CNN opinion piece?   Yeah...thats not biased at all.  Jesus.  It's mind boggling how people cannot recognize even blatant biases in the MSM and redistribute this garbage.  People are dumb

Saying "he got" people to attack the capitol is like saying  Obama and Biden got/get people to loot Targets, grocery stores, do drive by shootings and kill little kids at birthday parties and shoot up schools.  As well as kill each other daily in Chicago, Jersey, Baltimore, DC, etc.

Trumps folks were a one and done.

Why do Obama and Biden's people KEEP murdering people day after day after day after day?

This is absurd

Jan 6th people were there because of Trump’s BS. It was fiction created by him. The guy is so soft he can’t admit he lost.

It's dumb to dismiss factual information based on a source that hurts your feelings.

It was always there but the Internet made it worse. And that coincided with the 2000 election fiasco, Iraq War, first black POTUS, Trump etc.

It's dumb that you dismiss factual information because it's in a CNN opinion piece, which you obviously didn't read and then think for yourself instead of rolling along as an ignorant MAGAturd sheeple.

Here's the thing dummy.  i read NO opinion pieces, because they are biased. The fact that you are utterly incapable of realizing that is exactly what scares me about America, from both sides.   You are wholly unable to form your own opinions, and need others to tell you what to think.  That's just messed up on every level.  I literally hate how dumb people in America are.

Trust in media is at an all-time low and it has everything to do with their own biased choices. It’s ridiculous that almost every major outlet spreads false stories repeatedly and these always seem to go in one direction. Sh!tlibs like Tim blame people like Rush Limbaugh and Fox News instead of the fact we now have widespread availability of credible refutations of his beloved partisan activist corporate media who are responsible along with the Democratic Party for our division. It’s why the left thinks thousands of unarmed blacks are shot by police every year and why they thought children were dying from Covid. We can go down the list. They get everything wrong every time.

Here’s why I blame them: in a different thread you just posted some nonsense about Biden’s comments at the Air Force Academy yesterday. You actually quoted his remarks from a year before at the Naval Academy, and by mixing up the years it made Biden appear to lie.

Im betting you got this from a right wing website or source like talk radio. You would never have gotten it from mainstream media reporting because they are meticulous when it comes to reporting the news and don’t make that kind of deliberate error. And that’s the problem: so many conservatives these days are relying on sources whixh lie to them.

Of course there has always been partisanship, but there are some milestones one can cite.

Democrats rabidly hated Reagan and DC went through a change at that time.

Then you have the advent of cable news and the 24 hour news world.  While initially benign, it has obviously changed and now is a political machine.

Next was Clinton and what many conservatives saw as the lowering of presidential standards.  People were shocked that he didn’t resign over the Lewinsky scandal.  To me, this was when the press really stepped up their defense of the left.

Now you live in the social media age and the world has been rendered irredeemable.

I form my own opinions based on a broad spectrum of sources that produce information that includes facts, opinions and, all too often, misinformation and conspiracies.

To outright dismiss information sources that hurt your feelings and opinion pieces because they're classified as such is ignorance and underscores why MAGAturds prefer to exist that way instead of striving to get the bigger picture, thus punctuating the whole discussion about why we have such a divide in this country.

Thanks for highlighting my point, though.

Nah...you don't.  If you are linking a CNN opinion piece that tells everyone you need CNN to spoon feed your opinions.  Hey, you're not alone.  There are millions of idiots like you in this country. That's why the MSM exists, to tell you how to think and feel.  They are super powerful and hold a lot of sway over simple minded people.   It's not OK that you and others are this way, but it is the reality we all have to face.

I just wish it wasn't so.

Republicans FLED the democratic party when the Northern democrats supported civil rights.

The South is Republican right now solely due to the racist folks who live there and who infest this board.

“This is entirely false.  Democrats continued to dominate Senate, House, and Gubernatorial elections in the south for decades. Alabama did not elect a GOP governor until 1986. Mississippi? 1991. Georgia? 2002.”

you know, you can actually chart the political changes in the nation, and people have done so.  it was not related to civil rights, unionization, or rush.

the first major shift occurred when Nixon resigned.  up until that point, around 70%-80% of republicans trusted the system.  After that, their trust crashed to around 50% and republicans moved further to the right.  that is clearly shown in charts of polls.  The second major event was when the media turned against the Iraq Invasion in 2003.  Again, we see republicans trust collapse from 50% to 25%-30% and never recovers and in fact dwindles away.  Those are the two events:  Nixon resigning, and the press turning against the Iraq war.  That led to the rise of the tea party, maga, that led to Ohio and Flroida turning hard right and Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania turning into battleground states.

you are pulling dreams out of your ass with no data.

southen democrats flipping republican wasnt a change in the political landscape of the nation, it was just democrats turning big government and republicans turning limited government, and the public switched accordingly.  it was 2 parties exchanging ideologies

Now do their congressmen.  Did anyone say the switch was automatic?

Face it.  The South turned ruby red because they HATED the idea of the civil rights amendment.  HATED it.

Only in the MAGAtard world does this make even a lick of sense.

Actually the South turned red solely due to their hatred of the civil rights act.

You're right.  The South has always been super racist as were the Dixiecrats.  We kicked the racist out of the democratic party and they found a welcoming home in conservative circles.

Just like today.

you can see in the chart how about 70% of republicans trusted until Nixon resigned, then it dips into the 50% range.  Then it stays between 40% and 50% right up until the media turns against the Iraq war in 2003, then it crashes into the 30% range and never recovers from that.  Now its 14%.  i guess enough time has gone by that we can start to say the medias attacks on trump may have now permanently dropped republicans trust to under 20%, but hes still a major political figure so we may need to wait before declaring that.

Interesting link, thanks. What this data tells me is that conservatives' trust in the media goes to hell when they are presented with ugly truths about individuals or objectives that they favor. Instead of considering WHY they support such things, they close off the sources of the information they don't want to hear.
