Costco to require ID

Recommended Posts

Their policy always did.  So it bothers you that they're enforcing their policies now?  What, do you not pay for Costco and try to piggyback on someone else's membership?  Why is this a problem to you?

Me: its raining.

Strike: what? Are you one of those climate deniers? Climate change is real! It's just weather and you have to spew your nonsense about the rain!

Me:  it's still raining...  😐

Never shopped there.

I don't either. The idea of having to pay for the privilege to shop there strikes me wrong.

The old guy I work with loves it... "ya know I save TEN CENTS on every gallon of gas.?. "  That's great, but we've been waiting in line for 20 minutes.  Here's a dollar grandpa, let's go.

Wait. Costco used to ask for ID when you walked in. When did that change? or maybe just had to show your card?

Only in self-checkout, but this really isn't a big deal...

I don’t think I’ve been to one that had anything but self checkout open nowadays

It's always been just showing your card for as long as I remember.

At BJs not only do you get in without showing anything, you can cvvm at the end.

Cracking down on sharing.

I dont have a card, I use my wife's card, it has her picture on it.  I guess technically they won't let me buy anything anymore.

I think people give their cards to their aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, etc.  Trying to stop that.

I don't see you using your wife's card as fraud. AT BJs you just need a card to check out at self check.

BJS also has gas like 30 cents less than everywhere else.

Their policy allows one other person who resides at the same residence to use the card.  You should be fine.  They just don't want freeloaders using their friend's cards.

I find this odd.....I mean, their model relies on people showing up to buy maybe $100 of stuff, but leaving with #600 worth of stuff.....what the fock do their care if people are members or not, honestly....:dunno:

I have been a executive member for years, never shared my card, but I would not care if someone did.

All you have to do is get a household card for yourself.  Takes just a few minutes online, just like every time you loose your wallet.

I agree with the sentiment so maybe, just spitballing here... they can do certain things as a paid "club" that they couldn't do otherwise.  Like, states that outlawed happy hours used to let you join their "club" and buy alcohol at a reduced club rate, thus skirting the law.  :dunno:

Same, but I think our older daughter has our second card for her shopping needs.  Just as well, I'm turrble about impulse purchases whenever the wife and I shop together.  Last weekend she took me along and I grabbed a Fiskar's pole tree pruner ($52 and my old one broke, and I had thrown it out) and Kirkland Anejo tequila ($31 for 1 liter and it's really good, but I can't say that I needed it).

Same here.  Last 2 times I went to Costco, went in to but pork shoulder, ended up with a full $500 cart.

I saw that pruner and almost bought it, but ended up going white trash style and duct taped my pruner to my long pole so I can prune the elm over the driveway.

The funny part of this story is the elm is only 6 feet tall.

Yeah, we went to get some meat for Father's Day (celebrated a week late; I was out of town the previous week) and were happy the bill was only $380.
