Jason Aldean’s "Try That In A Small Town" Censored And Accused Of ‘Pro-Lynching' Themes

Oh absolutely.  I find that one amusing as well.  Anyone who allows political chicanery to rule their daily life is just a toy of the powerful.

I tried making that exact point in the Bud Light thread.  It fell on deaf ears.

I already did that.  Consistency is key.

It is indeed, for some of us.

The main danger to small town America isn’t rampaging violence, it’s fetanyl. It’s opioid addition. Far too many folks try THAT in a small town. This fear of urban violence, which as always borders on racism, is an easy scapegoat and distraction.

Alden is the standard southern hillbilly racist conservative.

He tries to hide behind his fake ass patriotism and christianity as a cover for him being a bigoted homophoic redneck through and through so they will buy his albums.

All of his songs suck that are about the same old themes in country music since the beginning of time.

The American flag

The Bible

The Constitution

Old dirt road

Shot of whiskey

Rusty pickup truck

Family oak tree

Mom's fried chicken

Granny's moist biscuits

Dad's belt buckle

Early morning hunting

Fishing at lake

Wrangler blue jeans

Trusty cowboy hat

Mud in Alabama

Rivers in Mississippi

Pie in Georgia.

I think we need all the Bud Light "its just a beer can" folks to step up here and defend this thing since "its just a song" and what not.  😜

It is just a song. It isn't a good one- not cause of the content because- I mean it's not wrong per se- but.....it's just a poorly constructed one.

And mostly what I saw is the song wasn't causing as much uproar as the video and its depictions.

San Fran and Portland at small towns now? Fentanyl is everywhere.  Alone with this new zombie drug.  Right across the border it comes.

What exactly does it depict? Those riots happened, that's real footage. What's there to depict?

C'mon Buck, you're better than that.

I am a fan of country music, not all of it, but a decent portion of it.  This song is OK, would be rather low on my playlist etc.  But we cannot ignore how virulently some of the players on the left have reacted to it.

To me....the song clearly is saying....hey you want to burn and loot and sh!t? come try that in my town......and you will get your arse handed to you....I really think it is alluding to that....   I think the way it is being defended is disingenuous, JMHO

Technically it was footage from Germany in 2019.

You guys seem to have trouble parsing out what I think vs. what I am saying I've seen the complaints being.    Yes, riots and lynchings happened, but the point is - the artist chose those depictions to be in the video.  Even if I find something ill-advised or understand why people might take issue with it, at NO TIME are you going to catch me saying it should be banned, censorsed, or people don't have the right to voice their opinions.  I mostly find the reactions funny.

Please don't tell me that they knew in 2023 that those images might be contentious and provacative.

And if wasn’t for the big city types seeing the footage, they would have gotten away with it too. The small town good ol’ boys network was protecting these racist murderers until the video went viral. THIS is what Aldean is celebrating?

I am just entertained by it all.  I find it more amusing than anything else. The array of leftists who sought to shut this song down is just completely amusing.

How many is “an array”?  There were some complaints and then a TV station stopped showing it.   But 99% if not 100% of the posters here would have never noticed if it didn’t make the news after the fact.

As many as you like can be in an array. We can start with the New York Times and CNN.  Purportedly these are journalists, but we know better.

Move on into your Google, and look around.  Part of me is actually gratified that someone seems to care about the content in music, given the abundance of inappropriate material provided through music over the decades.

These are examples of the news picking up the story after it was pulled by CMT.

Any actual news articles (not just tweets) about the song or video prior to CMT pulling it?

Does the riot at the Capitol count as something that shouldn't be tried in a small town?

Which US capitol are you talking about that resides in a small town?

How about the most comparable building in town.  City Hall, courthouse or something like that?  Something that represents the people and the town.

He probably would've killed more people than the shooter by doing that.  Can you imagine how many would've be injured and killed by getting trampled?

Yeah that's a good point.  My initial instinct would be to tell people to run or get down.

It's not a good look for him to just nope off stage, but I don't see how you can blame him.  This tweet seems like a reach.

I have no idea how I would've reacted in the same situation.  I don't blame him.
