As a person that came from a small town in NC, love or hate the song…..the lyrics are true.  Small town people help their neighbor's and don’t put up with shenanigans like looting and burning their family or friend’s place of business.  And 99.9% are legal and thoughtful gun owners.

Did he get cancelled?  He seems to be doing just fine.  A TV station stopped playing the video, the horror.  The song has  been out for 2 months, so it seems CMT only had an issue with the video, not the song.

As someone that doesn’t mind Aldean, honestly this song isn’t very good.  My favorites from him are probably “She’s Country,” “Crazy Town,” “Tattoos on this Town,” and “Don’t You Wanna Stay (w/Kelly Clarkson)”
