Why do people hate cops?

Recommended Posts

I work 50 hours a week.

I pay all my bills and taxes.

I provide a decent living for my family.

I don't commit crimes or look for trouble.

Cops seem great. :dunno: What's the problem??

Never had a problem.

Was pulled over quite a bit in my 20s, looking back it was well deserved.  Speeding, running stop signs.  Had my share of tickets and paid the price almost losing my license and in insurance rates. Was let go a few times too.

One thing my dad told me.  "Pull over, have paper work updated and in order, follow all instructions, don`t be a smart ass, never run." Even when I got a ticket the cops were polite because the way I acted put them more at ease. I always keep my hands on the steering when being approached .

It is really quite simple.

Also agree.  And if they ever pull you in for questioning tell them you want to talk to a lawyer whether you did it or not.

I love it I hear black celebs make a big deal how they just "the talk" with sons & daughters about how to deal with cops.  Most parents white or otherwise, including mine, gave the exact same advice as quoted above.

99% of the crap in the news about minorities being mistreated by cops could've been averted by just being respectful.

In this world we have fake catholic like seafoam, whom no one should believe.

And we have good honest police offers, and not so good and honest ones.  The bad ones can’t be trusted like seafoam

Amen.

Didn’t say they weren’t. I’m just answering the question in the OP. I do agree that plenty of em are good, but also… a lot of them are not

I've known some really good cops over the years, also known some complete douche bags.

Question is the percentage of cop douche bags higher than the general population?  Based on my experience, I would say yes.

I don’t know if it even is, but they’ve got a fair amount of power and discretion to fock with your life compared to the average person. That’s really the issue imo

At the height of 2020 riots, over 80% of black people wanted MORE cops in their neighborhoods.  You just spew dumb shat.  Nothing new.

You have to understand what is really going on in politics.   State and Local Police are not controllable by the federal government.  The 'mainstream' (government) media wants to put Local police in the worst possible light and runs stories which makes Local police look bad every chance they get.  But the same media is not going to criticize the FBI, CIA or Capitol Police.  The real battle today is to destroy the checks and balances in Constitution so the elites can run the country through the massive and corrupt bureaucracy inside the executive branch which can abuse citizens with no recourse.   The local police is our last line of defense from the feds.

This is true and the other cops in the department know exactly who they are.

However, doosh or not, you aren't winning an argument on the side of the road. Be polite, respectful, have your sh!t in order and do as instructed.

Even if the cop is the biggest doosh in the department the worst that will happen is you'll go home with a ticket. Which you can contest in court. And the doosh may not show up if it's his day off.

Some people confuse the movement to get rid of bad cops as somehow being hateful towards all cops.

Some people also assume police prevent crime or even fight crime. That’s just a small part of what they spend their time on. Studies show most police spend only 1 hour a week on crimes in progress.

https://www.reuters.com/legal/government/police-are-not-primarily-crime-fighters-according-data-2022-11-02/

Overall, sheriff patrol officers spend significantly more time on officer-initiated stops – “proactive policing” in law enforcement parlance – than they do responding to community members’ calls for help, according to the report. Research has shown that the practice is a fundamentally ineffective public safety strategy, the report pointed out.

In 2019, 88% of the time L.A. County sheriff’s officers spent on stops was for officer-initiated stops rather than in response to calls. The overwhelming majority of that time – 79% – was spent on traffic violations. By contrast, just 11% of those hours was spent on stops based on reasonable suspicion of a crime.

In Riverside, about 83% of deputies’ time spent on officer-initiated stops went toward traffic violations, and just 7% on stops based on reasonable suspicion.

Moreover, most of the stops are pointless, other than inconveniencing citizens, or worse – “a routine practice of pretextual stops,” researchers wrote. Roughly three out of every four hours that Sacramento sheriff’s officers spent investigating traffic violations were for stops that ended in warnings, or no action, for example.

Researchers calculated that more of the departments’ budgets go toward fruitless traffic stops than responses to service calls -- essentially wasting millions of public dollars.

Quote

Law “enforcement is a relatively small part of what police do every day,” Barry Friedman, a law professor at the New York University School of Law wrote in a 2021 law review article.

Studies have shown that the average police officer spent about one hour per week responding to crimes in progress, Friedman wrote.

Police spend most of their time on traffic violations and routine, minor issues, like noise complaints, according to three different, recent analyses of dispatch data from Los Angeles, Baltimore, Detroit, New Orleans, Seattle, and New Haven, Connecticut.

The New York Times reviewed national dispatch data from the FBI in June 2020, and found that just 4% of officers’ time is devoted to violent crime.

“We hope the report helps reshape the narrative about the relationship between law enforcement and safety,” Smith told me. Californians “should understand that a reimagination of community safety is far overdue and that equitable and community-centered solutions” are more effective alternatives.

If we got rid of traffic stops, we wouldn’t need most of the officers, since that’s most of what they do. Nobody ever got shot by a traffic camera. No cop ever got shot by a civilian when a traffic camera recorded somebody speeding.

What a focking idiot. Defunding the police was even a regrettable move by liberal mayors. But you haven't caught on yet. Damn. So focking stupid.

I think I've had 8 interactions with LE. 6 of the officers were great (let me go when I could've been charged/ticketed)

One of the other 2 was a male officer who pulled me over & told me my headlights were out of adjustment. At one point he told me to get in the back of the car.

Strange thing about that is, the entire backseat was filled with empty fast food bags. I almost literally had to lay on my side because the bags were stuffed tight right up to the level of the seat on both sides. Eventually he gave me a fix it ticket.

The other was profiling. Not because of the color of my skin, but because of the time day. Was working 6 PM to 6 AM.  Can't remember the reason why, but I needed to go home.

At around 12:15 AM, in a residential neighborhood, & about half a block from home, a female officer pulled me over. She walked up to the car and told me she estimated my speed at 39 mph. (posted speed limit 30) I told her I was going 31 at most, she said OK, just trying to keep the neighborhood safe. This gunt wanted nothing more than to get her snout in my car & hopefully find I had been drinking. This was at least 15 years ago and I regret not reporting it/her.

Cops are like any other group/business. The vast majority are good, but the few that aren't, fock it up for everyone.

Less cops is a WONDERFUL idea. You can see how great that's working in Democrat Cities all over the Country.

Much less crime!!!!!

We should just ban criminals. Then we wouldn't need cops.

That would kill the narrative. They need crime to exist and crime needs Democrats.

Ho Lee Fuk.  This is laughable.

I’ve spent a majority of my career on useless medical calls.  We should really get rid of fire trucks.

If we post anything about our "Black friends" you always come back with "anecdotal" ...means nothing.

I have black friends who are police officers, but their stories would mean nothing to you.
