Hawaii is on fire

Recommended Posts

Just finished booking a trip to Maui in December (way down south of this) and saw this story this morning. Huge bummer.

When the winds get going they go and there are super dry areas with tons of fuel for a wild fire all around the island. No bueno.

Whoa hadn't clicked on that link in the OP and just started looking online more.

Terrible news and very scary. Doubt Hawaii is very prepared for something like this.

I never thought it could be dry enough there.  I always thought it was dewy.

The islands are interesting, really. Being basically new volcanic islands, one side of each island is usually called the "tropic" or "wet" side and the other with a lot of the volcanic lava is the "dry" side.

My BFF lives in Oahu. It's really devastating to everyone there, too. People jumping into the ocean to save themselves.

Maui isn't that big in general.  We stayed in Kihei last year, which you'd still venture out to Lahaina to see some things and eat at some places.  We went to a luau in Lahaina when we were there :(

That said, I liked Lahaina and it’s too damn bad :(

Been there a handful of times. We will be camped out down in Wailea but always do a drive all around and would always hit Leoda’s Pie Shop and usually at least walk through Lahaina.

Big time bummer here and hope Hi gets all the help they need to rebuild quickly.

I thought it was always on fire as fresh lava flows burn vegetation, sometimes homes.   Seemed inevitable theyd have a big one

Maui hasn’t had lava flow in a long, long time. Big Island is the one with the active flows.

Large sections of Maui are super dry and it gets really windy, the hills nearby this town are filled with windmills that gives them like a quarter of their energy, so is a recipe for disaster.

These latest videos are so messed up.what a complete disaster. A whole town just gone in one night. Death total up to 36.

Is Lahaina where that ginormous banyan tree is?  Or should I ask "was"?  😢

Why does EVERYTHING have to be a conspiracy with these people?  It's ridiculous.  Rotted brains.

Yep. There are pics of the tree that you can see it’s pretty burned but not totally gone either.
