If you are the Giants, would you trade a #1 & #2 next year for DTR?

Recommended Posts

I think this question could be a fulcrum.   Dorian Thompson-Robinson is having an A+ camp but no path to starting for the Browns in an NFL that is super thirsty for QBs.  The New York Giants have a really good young head coach in place but need to upgrade at QB. Would you consider pulling the trigger on this deal given what weve seen from DTR at the glorious institution of UCLA (which the Chargers got their colors from) and in the Browns camp to this point?

Why would the Giants trade a 1-2 for a 5th round pick months after signing Danny Dimes to a long-term deal? Because DTR looked good in a preseason game?

The better question is when is Russia going to finally nuke the US?

Stay in your lane OP.  And that lane is the nutty, crazy, insane lane.

This post is firmly in the center of that lane!

Sure. And then they can trade the rest of their draft for that guy on the panthers that made a nice play in the second half of the first pre season game the other night.

I took heavy criticism for my call on Fernando Tatis, and it looks like i will take more here.  DTR has won me over with his UCLA career and performance in Browns camp and preseason.  I think he will be a star in the NFL.  I wont call him a generational talent but definitely a star.

I really like DTR.  I liked him in college and thought he could be an NFL starter with the right opportunity, but he didn't get it where he's drafted.  It's possible he could either get traded in a few years, or if Watson sucks maybe they can trade him and some picks to unload that contract, I don't know.  I'm not knocking the talent and prospect of DTR, just making fun of you for the ridiculous idea that the NYG will give up a 1 and 2 for him, when they have a better QB right now that they just paid, who if it turns out he oddly sucks, they can trade a 1 and a 2 and whatever for Caleb Williams next year.

A GM would look like such a stiff when he is doing year round scouting.  Didn't bother taking him inthe first 4 rds.  Only to turn around a few months later and unload a 1st and 2nd fot him after a few practices.

Plus it wouldn't take a 1st and 2nd or anywhere close so it seems like a ridiculous question.

If only the forearm liberals brought serious discussion to the table, like active GC conservatives League Champ, Peefoam and Tardcore.

I think that's his schtick.  He obviously values replies, so he needs to make these goofy predictions, so people can tell him he's nuts and he gets the replies he craves.

Notice how all of his predictions have some extreme element to them.

US will have a civil war

Chargers are the team of the decade

Russia is guaranteed to nuke the US by the end of 2022.

Now a late round QB is worth a first and second based on some practices.

I never seriously said chargers were team of the decade.  That was a joke thread, before i realized some here are too dense to get the joke.  I dont make joke threads anymore and if i do, i somehow include “this is a joke” in the op.

apparently nobody hates discussion on an internet forum. Topics that can be debated upset him.  I will make sure to add new topics like “water is wet”, “the sky is blue” and “nobody is lame” where everyone can agree.

If they really wanted him, they wouldn't need to part with a 1 & 2... my guess is that a 4 would be enough.

Also, if he were really that good, the better move would be to trade Watson.  There definitely would be a team who would part with a 1, and may be a 2, for him.

Not with that contract.  Dude has a $64M cap hit for the next 3 years.  They would have to trade him plus some picks ala Brock Osweiller.

Agree.  No one wants Watson.  Now if he came back and had a vintage Watson year then maybe.  But a guy who looked meh who is paid that much? No team wants that.  The Browns never change.  Hilarious move by them.

Common sense agrees, but not every GM/Owner has common sense.  Look at the deal Daniel Jones got.  It only takes one.

I was gonna make my usual nuclear war joke….but I actually think you’re right about DTR. I watched every game he played at UCLA, several in person. I think he’s terrific. Rooting for him.

And I can agree with that.  Teams are stupid.  But Browns just exposed thr stupid.  For a team to follow that lead would really be something.

If he plays well, only 1 team is getting Caleb Williams next year.  I don't follow college football that much but I heard one other kid who's looking to be a high pick, but if I recall, there's only 2.  Arizona and Washington are going to make a run at #1 overall in the next draft, I think there'll be a few others like Denver and Vegas who'll be in the running as well, even Tampa if Trask turns out to be just as terrible as Mayfield.  Now, all aren't going to be looking to take a QB #1, but the more that are in the conversation, the more likely teams are going to look to trade up or down.  At least one or two teams in need of a QB will be on the outside looking in.  I can see someone parting with a 2025 #1 pick for Watson.

The Watson situation reminds me of Tiger Woods a bit.  Once Tiger got outed, some piece of him died and he was never quite the same again.  Watson may be going through the same thing.

Not personal, it's just nice to know that you know nothing about football, in addition to everything else that you are utterly clueless about.

The Cardinals took a QB (Clayton Tune) one pick before DTR, which pretty much guarantees that DTR is a mobile Tom Brady.

I just saw the Lions/Giants preseason game and what the Giants need more than anything is a backup OT. When the 7th DE on the Lions depth chart burns your scrubs for 3 sacks, you've got problems. This tells me that the back end of the NYG O-Line isn't currently on their roster, they'd best be scouring the waiver wire. You don't want to rotate these a$$holes in, let alone the potential disaster of using them as injury emergency starters.

In related news, anybody want a backup DE? Julian Okwara explodes for 3 sacks in huge night for Lions’ pass rush - mlive.com

Most 3rd string linemen are crap.  They have the best LT in the game, and a rising RT.  O line depth is a problem for the nyg and the nfl

I just wish we would have got decent starting pitcher before the trade deadline.
It might not matter since aside from tonight our bats have been kinda dead, but still.

Well i actually agree with you on something. I think a lot of analysts are afraid to hype a fifth round QB in rookie camp with an entrenched starting QB.  I know plenty of QB rookies have great college highlight reels and are busts. But DTR is truly special.  He is doing things in camp that you almost never see from rookie QBs.  He is like a unicorn out there.  You might have a checklist of all the things youd like to see and most rookie QBs would check one or two, maybe none, and get the starting job. DTR is checking every box.  Ive never seen that. Hes power focking 2nd and 3rd stringers in a way you just dont see rookie qbs do.

DTR is kinda becoming a litmus test for who knows football and who doesnt.  If DeShaun Watson so much as stubs his toe in the regular season, im certain theyll sit him to kick the tires on DTR under live fire.
