BeenHereBefore 1,453 Posted August 21, 2023 I don't believe in cutting out carbs or fats, I think we are meant to eat the healthy ones and should have all around balance diet. I tend to eat a diet in higher protein but have my good carbs and fats as well. Things I eat regularly Eggs , can tuna, can sardines and eat tuna one day and the next day sardines to mix it up cause don't want to much tuna cause of the mercury content, almonds, walnuts, pumpkin seeds, peanut butter (natural), sunflower seeds, Greek yogurt, oat meal, olive oil, sweet potatoes, quinoa, bone broth mostly chicken, apples, bananas, blueberries, coconut water and a veg vegan plant based protein powder. I eat crap food to like ice cream, pizza and etc a few times a week.but try to get my healthy food in before I do. So what is your diet ?
BeenHereBefore 1,453 Posted August 21, 2023 Oh and I try to fast for about 4 to 5 hours after I get up. You want to drop weight without doing anything else that works good.
Ultra Max Power 214 Posted August 21, 2023 I think diets are stupid. It's better to make small healthy changes a person can keep up with, get even a tad bit more exercise and the pounds will start dropping off. I've cut out soda for everything except with pizza and popcorn at the movies. Replaced snacking with a protein shake, yogurt and peanuts. The Real game changer was after I cut my alcohol consumption to next to nothing. Although that is much easier for me to do when it's not football season. I still eat junk, just in moderation. I'm probably in the best shape I've been since I've been married.

You are on the money about the alcohol and when I quit drinking a little over a year ago I got in fairly good shape in three months, gym and watching what I ate helped too. Yep you can have the junk food in moderation and I do.

BeenHereBefore 1,453 Posted August 21, 2023 One food I don't eat is pasta and I like it too. Haven't had any in probably 4 years. I think it killed my dad and he loved it and ate a ton of it about 4 to 5 times a week. Got diabetes and then a few years later Pancreatic cancer, Of course moderation it isn't probably that bad. BeenHereBefore 1,453 Posted August 21, 2023 The funny thing is people in general will eat the same foods a lot daily or a couple times a week if it's healthy food or not. We find what we like and are creatures of habit. I eat a lot of the same type healthy foods regular like I mentioned. Before that it was pizza, burgers, lunch meat and etc.
Mark Davis 339 Posted August 21, 2023 Eat pretty well. Had bad cholesterol test maybe 3 years ago now. For 6 months I didn't eat one fried food, dessert, or candy of any kind. Started walking more, doing push ups daily. I was already pretty lean and dropped 20 lbs I didn't think I had to trim. Lost the gut I did have. Doc ran the numbers, said you look great but your numbers while better, still aren't great. Bad genes. Put me on a 10 mg statin, great numbers ever since. Continue to eat much better than I did before, but I do have the occasional fried food and dessert. Just not as much as I did a few years ago.
GutterBoy 2,898 Posted August 21, 2023 I eat pretty healthy, but I also eat whatever I want. No processed foods, fruit and veggies every day. The only things I drink are coffee, tea, water, beer, wine. I've always been a healthy weight, run/exercise daily. High cholesterol controlled by statin as its the only thing that worked. Just took BP, 113/78. Pulse 51.
DonS 3,292 Posted August 21, 2023 I try to, but man your mom's snatch has been rancid lately. She might want to go get that checked out.

Good job and before I quit drinking I was 40 lbs overweight and didn't exercise. my cholesterol was good and pretty much everything else accept low in B12 from the drinking. Didn't eat much fry food and only thing I can think of why my cholesterol was good. Was a heavy drinker, smoker at the time.
RaiderHaters Revenge 4,236 Posted August 21, 2023 I eat 50-70 carbs a day, no processed, no sugars meats, dairy, avocados, olives
WhiteWonder 2,675 Posted August 21, 2023 Definitely not. I dont really watch what I eat and have mostly gotten by on genes and metabolism my entire life. Years ago I cut back big time on fast food. It was so convenient for me to grab on the way home from work... traditional FF or fast casual. I've also gone through phases where I forced myself to have more salads, especially at lunch. I am a fan of baby spinach salads. Or phases where I got into cooking. Lately I have reverted back to ordering in or eating out, though not to the same extent as the past. My salt intake is way too high. I've never been a sugar/sweets person so that is probably okay... and my drinking is more along the lines of going out once a week or less but then binging and drinking way too much while out . Flip side is im not a big drinker on most other days. Cut way back on coke/pepsi a long time ago. Have been on a ginger ale kick lately (Reeds). Bloodwork and physical results always come back perfect which is good but has probably lead to me being careless with my eating habits and it's going to catch up to me.
Cruzer 1,995 Posted August 22, 2023 Eating "healthy" (imo) is one of the most misused phrases of all time. What does it even mean? There's several foods considered to be healthy that are in fact not healthy at all. I like to say I eat rounded and balanced. My diet includes daily portions of proteins, veggies, dairy and fruits. I also love my carbs and bread, although I eat bread sparingly. I don't really do sweets, so I don't worry about those.
MTSkiBum 1,620 Posted August 22, 2023 I think I consume less sugar, less salt, and less highly processed foods than the average person, so in that context i could say that i eat healthy. However, eating truly healthy is tough, i think less than 5% of the country eats healthy. I think most people eat like crap, so even though i am probably better than average that still makes my diet terrible compared to what it should be.

Don't get me wrong i love reed's extra strong flavored ginger ale. I buy a 4 pack every other month or so and then i drink them all within 1-2 days. However the sugar content on those is off the charts. Even though they use real sugar and not high fructose corn syrup they each contain 70% of your daily recommendation of sugar. So good though. listen2me 23 1,825 Posted August 22, 2023 I eat well enough. But don't really ban myself from anything in moderation. I clog my arties during football season. Most of my weekly meals are meat and vegetables. I don't consume anything from around 7pm-noon the next day, besides coffee on weekdays. My metabolism is pretty good. I wasn't claiming them to be healthy although I would rather have real sugar and more ginger flavor as opposed to canada dry or seagrams. they are quite delicious

Yea if you are a heavy drinker alcohol can drain your body of B12 and a lot of crazy bad health things can happen. I eat a good bit of meat now to keep my B12 up. I think my exercise level really fell off after our second daughter was born. That was when my good cholesterol dropped so the ratio with the bad got out of hand. The B12 I'm just not sure of what caused it. One big issue is I work for myself and have a home office, am constantly sitting at the desk or working on my laptop from the couch. Not exactly a recipe for great activity levels. I try to take our dog on a good walk every day, as much as I can with these triple digit heat indexes anyway. The B12 could be me eating more salads now than I used to and lack of meat I guess. I'll need to check into that.

My guess it's the lack of foods you eat that has it in them, yes like meat and eggs and diary. Mine was most likely from the alcohol. Well you can always take the vitamin as well which I did after I found out. Now I just eat a lot of foods with it in.
TommyGavin 790 Posted August 23, 2023 You all know my drinking habits. Last year work had a health screening so you can save (I Think) 10/15 % on health insurance. I failed miserably- BP through the roof (I wasn’t taking BP meds at the time - stupid me). Bloodwork came back terrible. Nurse had to have me sign a waiver that I declined an ambulance and immediate attention. Back on BP meds and winging it.

I bought 1/4 cow that was grass fed/finished 100% organic. I feel great when eating them I do not eat nuts, seeds, or legumes (especially peanut butter and humus/chick peas). Seeds and legumes are some of the worst natural foods. They do have nutrients, but they are high in phytic acid which binds to nutrients. That means we don't absorb the good stuff. Anything with excess phytic acid will bind to the nutrients in our bodies and actually steal them away. There are other things to worry about like lectins also. The only benefit for phytic acid is that it binds to excess iron, which is toxic. I feel like crap if I eat out at all. I try to eat home cooked meals every day.
