I do think it’s weird to announce these picks will be a certain demographic. Thought when Biden did this it was kind of gross as well.

In this case I can see a bit of an argument in that Newsom didn’t replace Kamala with a black woman. I think it would be smarter and be a better for the pick if you just did it and didn’t announce it was the starting criteria. 

And, It’s going to be Barbara Lee.

Newsom had to rot in mostly silence as CA Lt Governor, for a decade on the backburner, because he slept with his campaign manager's wife in SF, which shelled the only real advantage he has in professional politics besides his "Aunt" Pelosi - Which is appeal to suburban women voters. 

Newsom isn't good at anything, he's been protected in a clear Blue stronghold and got massive coverage from Pelosi, the long time SOTH and gained the benefit of her entire political power block. 

Middle America won't vote for him. He'd struggle with White Evangelicals. Working class minorities wouldn't lock in for him. Also the activist MSM has been suppressing an "alleged" affair with another staffer. How would that play out to suburban women voters in 2024? And to get the DNC ticket, he would have to leapfrog Kamala Harris. The human "Ken Doll" of Team Blue politics, who owns his own winery and vacationed as a child with the Gettys (Yes, those Gettys) is going to appeal to black voters how exactly? 

Newsom would be dragged through the mud fifteen times over in a general election. There is absolutely zero about Newsom that appeals to working class America.

Newsom resisted some pretty heavy pressure to select Barbara Lee. She’s in a 3 way race with Adam Schiff and Katie Porter for the seat, and running behind them. If Newsom had appointed Lee it would have made her the favorite I think. Now she’s out of it and I suspect that the race will come down to Schiff vs Porter. 

I’ve liked Schiff for a long time but he’s certainly a controversial character and pretty much hated by Republicans. Porter is less well known nationally but she’s done a lot of good things for my neck of the woods. Give me Porter.

From what I read she has a home in California. Her living in Maryland for this job she has had is a political issue rather than legal issue.

Who knows. I assume that this is legal and that they have worked this out prior to her being named. It wasn’t a secret she has lived in Maryland and worked in DC for this gig she has. 

This is more a political issue if she tried to run for the job next year - example Dr. Oz.

If I was voting there it would maybe be a consideration in the election. I can get that, especially with the folks who distrust big city slicker types.

Newsome picked her for this spot so I’m assuming they did their due diligence on what was legal. Outside of that that she lives in Maryland doesn’t really matter here.
