I've noticed a few posts in this thread along these lines. I used to think there was some validity to the argument. Then Gabby Giffords got shot. Along with 18 other people. In a parking lot. In Arizona. Where open carry has been legal for decades. If you can mow down 19 people in an open parking lot in Tuscon, AZ without a peep from a 'good guy with a gun' it ain't happening anywhere else. 

Most of the big tough dudes that fetishize firearms are cowards compensating for their own shortcomings. They won't engage an active shooter on their own.

And to be clear, I'm not advocating for or against changing gun laws, just pointing out that this line of thinking has shown to not be rooted in reality.

An AR-15 is just a look.  It's not an assault rifle.  If you put the body of a mustang on the frame of a taurus it's not going to make it faster.  I'm tired of everyone thinking it's a specific model of rifle.

It shoots a 5.56/.223 round.  Literally nothing special.  Lots of other more powerful rifle rounds.  There’s debate as to whether it’s an ethical round for deer hunting due to its lack of punch.

I'm asking specifically about this type of rifle, and what you're telling me is it's no more powerful or deadly than other guns, which according my research is inaccurate.  I'll share some links and ask you to comment.

no, you're just conflating things.

An AR is a model gun that can be chambered in like 10 different calibers.  So that is about 10 different levels of "powerful" coming from that weapon alone.

Depending what gun you use to shoot each caliber, an AR may be more powerful for some and less powerful than others.
