MAGAturdism in 2023 results in fewest laws in decades

Recommended Posts

https://www.axios.com/2023/12/19/118-congress-bills-least-unproductive-chart

This story is from December, but it underscores the problems the MAGAturds cause. Congress can't get anything done.'

Oh, but they have time to take another whack at impeaching Mayorkas instead of rolling of their sleeves and getting a bipartisan immigration bill passed.

MAGAturds focus on and all too often create problems instead of doing their jobs and helping to find solutions.

Pathetic.

Good. This is supposed to be the land of the free not the land of ever-expanding government control.

Seriously. The liberals fight tooth and nail to be controlled by the government.

They are like some women who want to be taken care of and not have to contribute to society.

I might be more upset by this if I knew there was a law that I felt needed passing. They've got their border/Ukraine funding bill being held up. Anything else?

Looks like we've reached the point of the ultimate con.  The Maga have convinced their followers that they need to get elected into office to do exactly nothing.

Unfortunately, the Congress can’t get anything past the Senate. The house has had an immigration bill before the Senate that they won’t even bring to the floor. there are more examples. You can look them up if you care.

I understand all this.  I understand gridlock.  But gridlock and lack of progress is not the goal nor should it be celebrated.  Taking it a step further, saying that we don't need new laws and we want the status quo is asinine, especially since your side cries about the status quo relentlessly.

This is the Biden administration. The Republicans have a very slim margin in the house, while the Democrats control the Senate and the executive branch. $78 When you have a president and a senate that refuses to work with the other side, this is what you get. Great presidents are able to work with both sides of the aisle and come to a compromise agreement.

Quite a bit was passed in the 2020 - 2022 sessions.

We just saw the President, Democrats and Republicans all agree on bipartisan legislation to address the border, and Magas shut it down proudly, taking credit for it.

Don't even start by blaming Democrats and Biden for the all the House failures.  No one is buying that.

Yes,  and that legislation drove us into massive inflation. Can you name some of this legislation aside from the massive spending bills. What has this legislation accomplished?

Why do you think allowing 1.8 million illegal aliens into this country every year helps address the border situation? How does this help the average American?

The border bill did not allow 5,000 people a day to come here. Why are you repeating stupid lies?

I wonder what the ratio is on this forum of number of rent free Trump deranged posts started versus any of these liberal goofballs actually starting a thread on what their guy is doing well. 1:50? 1:100?

But then they come off trying to act like he doesn’t live rent free in their heads is pretty hilarious.

What the bill did is provide enough border agents to PREVENT everyone coming here so long as the numbers are less than 5,000 encounters a day. If the numbers exceed that, and the border patrol can’t handle it, then Biden is given the power and means to shut down the border altogether. He doesn’t have either the power or the means to do that now.

So stop repeating the bullsh!t.

He certainly lives in my head. It’s not rent free, if you guys wouldn’t nominate the idiot, then he wouldn’t live in my head.

I agree that there should be more threads celebrating the great job Biden is doing. In most areas he has been remarkably good,

The Emergency National Security Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2024 changes immigration law to let the executive branch quickly stop people from coming in through U.S. borders and prevent them from applying for asylum under certain conditions.

The bill allows the Homeland Security secretary to exercise this authority if there are an average of 4,000 daily encounters at the southern border during seven consecutive days.

And the bill requires the Homeland Security secretary to exercise this authority if there are:

  • An average of 5,000 encounters a day during seven consecutive days, or

  • 8,500 encounters on any single day.

By almost no metric is he doing a good job. And the only reason you’re voting for him, and that he’ll get votes isn’t because he’s doing good, you just want to stay in power and the metro major city hell holes still believe in the fantasy that Democrats are going to legislate them out of poverty.

If Biden had governed as the moderate he was portrayed and claimed to be, he would be cruising to reelection, even with that albatross Harris hanging around his neck.

We just saw the Democrats who had fostered this problem for years believing it supplied them with political advantage finally realize after polling what Rerpublicans have been saying, that it was damaging our country. The Democrat politicians realized they could not even sell their lies to their own highly partisan constituents.  They therefore got together with a couple of Republicans delusional enough to trust that the Democrats wanted to address the problem.  The Democrats immediately overwhelmed the Bill with collateral matters making any border provisions next to immaterial in  the greater scheme of theBbill and they even managed to mischaracterize those minor provisions.  In short, th democrats sought a way to run from their record and to mischaracterize the last three years of history in the hope that they could rewrite history with their lies.  If they support border security let them send up a signle subject Bill and let them welcome honest discussion and ammendments on that single subject.

BTW the Democrats are not unique in their legislative cowardice.  Republicans gleefully employ the same sad tactics when it suits them.

Nope. I’m voting for him, in no particular order because:

1. I support his firming up of NATO and support of Ukraine.
2. I like the infrastructure bill.
3. I like what Biden has done to improve the economy.
4. I like his moderate efforts to fight climate change and prepare us for the worst of it while still expanding oil drilling for now.
5. I support his ideas on immigration reform.
6. I think he saved millions of lives during Covid by organizing and promoting the vaccines.
7. I support his choice of judges and justices.
8. Women’s reproductive rights.

There’s plenty more. I’ve been a pretty big critic of Biden on trade but hopefully he will improve on that issue in his second term. I also don’t think he’s been tough enough with Netanyahu. But overall he’s been pretty excellent and contrary to your assertion I’ve offered several metrics.

1. I don’t consider not, forcing NATO members to pay more as firming it up. Trump would.

2. For the most part I can get on board with it, but that will be a crap show no matter who is in office.

3. come on. Inflation is at historic rates. Consumer confidence is at one of the all-time Lowe’s.

4. meh. Mismanaged money. Even the rental car places are getting rid of electric cars because they are too expensive and it doesn’t really do anything to fight climate change. Puts middle class people out of business as well that they claim to champion.

5. This one actually made me laugh out loud.

6. not really a number you can point to say that it actually saved lives that weren’t going to die anyway just through health. But what it did was put lots of people out of business and cripple our economy when it didn’t have to. States that stay open? Thrived and had the same Covid rates

7. as long as they fit your ideology, I’m sure you do. I feel the same way about the Trump ones. By the way, the Supreme Court that you guys wanted to dismantle once you didn’t have the advantage seems to be a pretty fair group that’s not basing things off political ideology for the most part. Conservatives have certainly taken losses and Supreme Court rulings.

8. just say pro killing babies. You want to actively be able to kill any baby you want

  • Thanks 2

Thanks for responding. Obviously we disagree on a wide number of issues which is fine. But earlier you tried to state what you believed was my main reason for supporting Biden. I hope you realize your error about that. I think he’s done a fine job on the issues I’ve listed.

That’s fair. I mean there’s not a lot of numbers that support that he’s doing a good job but if he’s tackled a couple issues you want taken care of that’s all any of us can hope for on either side. 🍻

You don't exercise your mind very often do you?  The law simply put it to the individual states to decide.

Yes, less government, more choice.  The opposite of this thread.
