It’s just back to the whole thing with Trump.

Nobody really puts much stock in what he says. Not even his supporters. So if you don’t like this, you can just blow it off as “he doesn’t really mean that” or “he’s just bloviating.”

Which traditionally would’ve been a death knell for a presidential candidate. How can you have a guy leading the free world where nobody can put any stock in what he says? It’s completely erratic.

But somehow Trump has always managed to avoid those consequences.

Probably a sign of the times, really. People are so disillusioned that they no longer expect or even want a steady hand in leadership. Seems like that won’t end well but I guess we’re just going to have to find out.

Yeah, but this was one thing he said before and did it last time. It doesn't require an act of Congress, if he's elected he can just raise tariffs.  If you thought a temporary 9% inflation was bad,  this would be a 4 year 10% increase on anything imported and that's a lot of items.

Ot it could result in those countries coming to the table to stike a new bargain, undoubtably what trump hopes would happen.  

 

Me,Ii believe the countries upon whom Trump imposed an increase would look to get in a tariff war and would retaliate, if they are able, leading to greater economic problems still.  Only then would the coubntries and we come to our senses and negotiate reasonable conditions, but by then great harm likely would have been done.  Now my beliefs are based upon my understanding of human nature and not economics, history, or the behavior of nations so take anything I say as the opinion of the rather uninformed.
