Trump/Biden in a Nutshell

Recommended Posts

Three points:

1. My main problem with the OP is that I don’t think Trump’s policies were good for this nation. I think they were awful. But then I don’t share his governing philosophy.

2. But beyond that, the most important thing a President is supposed to do is protect us in time of emergency. Not every President has an emergency so we can’t judge them on this. Trump was unfortunate enough to have one the this country’s greatest emergencies on his watch: the Covid crisis. That’s not his fault, he was just unlucky. But we can and should grade him for how he responded. I give him a D-.

3. Finally I believe Donald Trump betrayed the Constutition by trying to reverse the results of the 2020 election. This is not a question of Trump being a jerk, or a bad guy with good ideas, as the OP wants to believe. He betrayed the Constitution and that should make him ineligible.

On #2, Trump went from nothing to vaccine in 9 months by pushing a public/private partnership that used exceptions to get things accomplished in record times.  If the "regular" government had been in charge, we'd still be waiting for approvals.

Biden then took this remarkable feat and arranged for it to go on trucks to pharmacies.  And somehow, Leftists view this as the awesome accomplishment, vs. the unprecedented creation and approval of the vaccine.

I'll give credit where credit is due in regard to the expediency of Operation Warp Speed getting the vaccine developed, but it's incorrect to say it went from "nothing" to vaccine in nine months.

Work on a coronavirus vaccine began two decades earlier with SARS, dropped off when that turned into a nothingburger, picked up again with MERS, dropped off when that turned into a nothingburger and then went into overdrive when it became obvious The Wave was going to make it all the way around with that pandemic.

The problems came with his series of mixed signals, like saying the virus would disappear with a few months, his statement about bleach and his defiant mask removal - moves all made to pander to those who wanted to hear and see these things. He did this because it was an election year and he is a self-serving motherfocker who wanted to stay in power to massage his gigantic ego and narcissism.

He also dropped the ball on setting up the delivery system, which Biden did a great job setting up.

Science, based on a body of work you're not crediting, created the vaccine.

Keep trying.

Your vote says different. If that’s not a line in the sand then what is? Banging a porn star? If Trump came out for it he could kiss my vote goodbye. You’re willing to overlook it, despite being disgusted by it.

I shouldn't have said "nothing," as clearly there was prior scientific research.  But as you said, Warp Speed was a great accomplishment.

You may or may not be aware of a concerted effort to delay the approval of the vaccine until after the election.  Our resident Covid expert @TimHauck followed it more closely than I did, and can show the receipts if you are interested (and he is willing).  It is truly one of the most inexplicably uninvestigated influences on the 2020 election.

It's totally possible to support one candidate over another while not altogether subscribing to the platform of the preferred candidate.

As I said, I don't agree with the idea of gender transformation of a minor. If Biden has addressed the issue, kindly post a link to that so I can be educated, because otherwise you're just generalizing the issue and casting a wide blanket.

If I were to apply your brand of logic upon you, then you'd support rape, adultery, treason, tax fraud, vindictiveness, anti-Constitution and all-around sociopathic behavior.

Those things respresent a much larger percentage of concerns in this country, lady sniff.

Operation Warp Speed is why Trump gets a D- on Covid and not an F. He was barely involved at all with Operation Warp Speed, was completely disinterested but at least he didn’t try to stop it.

Correct, too bad most righties (both here and actual politicians) were too busy talking about Hunter Biden’s laptop than investigating that.

#2 would have been accomplished by any president under the circumstances. IIRC, Phizer did it with no govt. assistance. Approvals would have been expeditedated by any govt, as seen by the rest of the world approving the drugs immediately.

I would agree with this.

Those are people, so.... I mean...I guess. I guess someone could make the argument. I mean, what constitutes "the people".

If he was "hated by the people" --his poll numbers wouldn't be  where they are now.

That's my .02.

Are you acutely familiar with the hearts and minds of thousands of people in my community?

Nope. Let me tell you about the actual community of people I interact with. Most of my social circle could be labeled evangelical Christian if you're into labels and such. That's probably my label, too. The Christian label I wear with absolute gratitude...the other part of the label carries some baggage. Anyway, back on topic:

It is a group of conflicted people with respect to national politics. And, much more complex than the simpleton recipe you're cooking up. Sure, there are a loud minority of those under this tent that would follow Trump into fire, but for the vast majority, it's a complex issue with much to consider. As I told you before, I think the allegiance to Trump comes from Christians feeling largely protected from government from January 2017-January 2021. They felt absolutely NO protection under Obama and Biden is basically a third term of that. The right went after Bill Clinton in the 90's, but he actually was more of a centrist than anything else and I didn't feel like he would promote leftism and really didn't. Aside from him being a complete and total womanizer, he was actually a decent president. He is largely beloved in Oklahoma because of how he interacted with people here following the OKC bombing. And, he's a democrat. People can look beyond the labels.

All I'm saying is that you've painted your picture with a huge paint stroke and it's not as cut and dried as you say. Not by a mile. Most Christians take their politics seriously and that creates some really tough choices when it comes to voting.

I was pretty clear about specifying "my neck of the woods," and I don't believe you have any idea of where I live.

It was only until recently that one could buy beer and wine in my city, and I still have to drive to the next county to buy booze. The Southern Baptist megachurch here has a kung-fu grip on the politics, which get discussed during sermons.

Trump posters are plastered on businesses everywhere, and myriad vehicles sport Trump bumper stickers and even flags. The gym I belonged to had its TVs tuned into Newsmax and OAN. The one that carried Fox was switched after that media entity called the Arizona vote for Biden.

The love of Trump and the hatred of Biden is openly discussed there and everywhere.

Prior to the 2020, lakes on the weekends around here were covered with Trump flotillas.

Meanwhile, my Facebook feed is filled with posts indicating undying loyalty to Trump, right down to memes showing him praying in church and encouraging people to pray for this "great, godly man." To have any differing opinion about the man would result in a frenzy of defriending and blocking.

Lecture me all you want about what takes place elsewhere, but I definitely live in the heart of Trump country, and it's disgusting.

I agree completely, the geek club does not represent the average Republican Christian voter at all.

If you form your opinion based on what people are saying here then you don't understand the average person.

I don't know. I spend time in rural Texas and when we are fishing for example there will be hundreds of trucks but only 1 jacked up truck with loud music flying 2 trump flags.

Even in rural Texas it makes up less than 1% of people who vote Republican, they just make themselves stand out in an obnoxious manner.

This is incorrect.  He certainly pushed for it, and he wanted it to be authorized before the election.  Unfortunately Eric Topol had other plans.

This is your perception of things and there's no reason for me to challenge it. After all, perception is reality for most people.

What I can tell you with absolute certainty is that within that perceived wasteland of common thought, there are plenty of people who wrestle with it all. They may appear to support Trump wholeheartedly because he represents the opposite politically of what they absolutely abhor, but when it comes to actually casting their vote, they do so with only that abhorrence in mind rather that some sort of Trump devotion.

I see it every day. I recently visited a Baptist church I'd never been to before, and the preacher spent half the sermon b!tching about Biden and liberals.

Imagine living in a place where 80 percent of the population is people like Tree of Knowledge and some of the other hardcore MAGAturds around here.

I can't tell you how many times I've been introduced to someone, and within 3 minutes they ask what church I attend.

Clients angrily bring up Biden and liberals out of the blue during appointments.

Remember when the CDC reported that 93 percent of the COVID patients who died had co-morbidities such as diabetes, obesity, etc.?

Then the far right took that to mean that the CDC had "quietly dismissed" 93 percent of the COVID deaths.

The journalist in me prompted me to put the record straight on that, and the first comment out of the box was from a dude I'd known for a decade, who said, "You've gone full-on liberal."

I politely said that correctly interpreting facts doesn't indicate a political preference, and he responded with, "Well, you're just an assh0le."

I deleted him, and he was so worked up over that he blasted me on his own page, and it became a MAGAturd pile-on, including people I'd known for years.

Yep, that's my focking neck of the woods.

Now I just stick to post cat pics.

I will say that this thread has given me some insight as to why @Pimpadeauxhas such severe TDS.  Not that it excuses it, but it at least explains it.

It must be hard to have a certain opinion and live among people with the opposite opinion... wait, that's what virtually every other region in the country has to deal with, with the MSM, social media, big tech, and 3-letter agencies (and NY, let's not forget NY) telling us 24/7/365 how bad the mean orange man is, and why they need to gin up sarbanes oxley crap and old stale prostitute testimony to find something, anything, to save the stupid people from themselves.
