MDC 7,291 Posted July 19, 2024 4 minutes ago, Strike said: Man, this is when this bored just gets very tedious. I shouldn't have to go through this detailed analysis but you're forcing me to. No, I didn't misunderstand. Your post, that I replied to, was in response to a post about how @The Real timschochet hopes the GOP campaigns against her in a certain way. And you replied: The clear meaning of your post is that they should ALSO campaign against her as a DEI hire. You support that by saying ALL left leaning minority politicians are DEI hires. I assume you mean to right leaning people. You may have been trying to open the door to a discussion about all minority lefty politicians but I'm only concerned about Kameltoe. So I responded accordingly, limiting my comment to Kameltoe. Your subsequent posts make no logical sense. Because Kameltoe IS part of that minority group you're talking about. So, when I say Kameltoe is in fact a DEI hire that's a valid statement. Either you dispute that she's a DEI hire, which really can't be done since Joe did in fact choose her because of her minority status, or the discussion should be over. For some reason you're fixated on expanding the pool of discussion to all minority candidates. I'm not really interested in that discussion because this thread is about the Presidential election. But, you'd be wrong anyways. Most politicians are elected to their position. That's by definition not a DEI hire. So no, righties don't think ALL minority politicians are DEI hires. Did you name one who the GC doesn’t call a DEI hire in all this word salad?

Voltaire 5,281 Posted July 19, 2024 Hang in there Joe, rest up and get over this COVID. The media and their allies: Pelosi, Schumer, and Obama all want you to leave/ They are all hiding stilettos when they claim they just want to 'talk to' you and cannot be trusted anymore. Tell them to fock off and get in line. Just start campaigning again next week. When you lock up the nomination, this will all pass.

The Real timschochet 6,640 Posted July 19, 2024 The problem with @Strike’s argument is that it assumes that because Biden determined to have a black female Vice President, that in itself makes Kamala Harris unqualified. “DEI hire” is used as a slur or put down. But the actual facts contradict this. It’s not like Biden, after deciding to appoint a black woman, chose somebody off the street with race and sex as the only consideration. To the contrary: once Biden determined to appoint a black woman, he then looked at a list of black women who are qualified to be vice-President. He chose Kamala Harris from that list. And this is what conservatives so often ignore about DEI or affirmative action: it’s not a qualifier in itself, but only the first specification. You still have to be very good at what you do or you’re never getting that job or appointment.

I don’t like Kamala as a politician and I thought it was dumb of Biden to insist on only picking a black woman as Veep, potentially passing over more qualified candidates. But I generally agree with what you said here. And let’s get real here, most VPs aren’t picked because they’re most qualified. JD Vance has been a Senator for 1.5 years and nobody cares. The DEI / affirmative action thing is only used to disparage Democrat minorities. The opposite is when Dems call black conservatives Uncle Tom.

You still have to be very good at what you do or you’re never getting that job or appointment. Your premise is incorrect. A DEI hire is not necessarily unqualified and I don't believe that. They might be, or they might not be the best qualified person for the job. I mean, let's be serious, if they were the best qualified they wouldn't need to be a DEI hire. But when someone says they're going to hire someone based upon race, or sex, they're purposely limiting their candidate pool to those groups. As a result, we will never know if they were the best qualified. And we should strive for the best qualified to get jobs. If being a DEI hire is such a great thing, no one should consider being called a DEI hire a slur. The fact that you consider it such just reinforces how much of a crutch it is. DEI hires should be proud of that designation. Unless deep down they know they wouldn't have been picked but for that designation.
