What Is The Best Newer Movie You Watched ?

Recommended Posts

You know, I loved the Iron Claw. I thought it was extremely well done. I knew so little about the storyline and the family, but I was just telling hubs the other day that it's easily one of the best I'd seen in a LONG time.

We recently saw the other bigger new ones like Dune 2, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, Abigail. A few of the other rom-coms.

But if I were to go back a few weeks, I'd actually have to agree with you, Iron Claw was easily one of the best movies I've seen within the last couple of months.

Thanks! Good input also on the bigger movies that came out.

The Blue Angels documentary hit IMAX last week and Prime Video today.  Haven't seen it yet but hopeful it lives up to expectations.

Nobody is a lot of fun.  They're making a sequel.  Looking forward to it.

I believe you've stated this one before.  I'd like to see it, but after having recently seen the Lobster with Colin Farrell which was... really weird, in a "looks like a HS theater group filmed it" kinda way, I dunno...

I haven’t seen The Lobster but I did see Dogtooth and Killing of a Sacred Deer by the same director, and they were totally waaaaayyyy different than Banshees of Inisherin. The director Michael McDonagh also did In Bruges and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing MO.

Not going to talk you into it, but Banshees was probably the best movie I’ve seen in the past 3-5 years.

From past year or so: Dunes were great (I liked first one a bit more) Oppenheimer great. Air, The Leftovers were very good. I’m sure there are a ton more.

I'd put Banshees in the good category, not great.  It's worth watching, decent and a little strange.  I didn't include it because it's two years old.

The Holdovers was very good. Leftovers the show I haven’t watched but have heard it’s great “if you give it time”.

My dinner leftovers I will be having for lunch are still waiting for me. I’m starving!

Oh I saw that, I liked it, but admittedly I put Paul Giamatti as my answer to “actors I like in anything.”

I liked Ricky Stanicky also @Horseman

I can be talked into moving the Holdovers from the Good to the Best.

Yep. He’s about as dependable that the movie will be good as there is.

This role was tailer-made for him.

IMO the Director is money all his movies I have liked except for “Downsizing” with Matt Damon.

One of the few movies I almost left the theater before it ended. No clue what happened there.

The Professor with Johnny Depp is a 2019 movie that wasn't released for streaming until 2023.  I'm adding that to the Best.

Our boy Nicolas Cage really cranks out the movies, lol.   Pig is to too old for a new movie list imo, but, Sympathy for the Devil is worth watching.

Wife and I watched it last night.  Agreed it was a really good movie.

Afterwards I was reading the trivia about it on IMDB..

There was actually another brother named Chris that also committed suicide via gun.  They decided to leave that out of the movie as it was sadly redundant due to the suicides of Mike and Kerry.

The brother David also had a daughter that died when she was a year old.

Lots of tragedy in that family.

Wasn’t great, but it was very good. Wish Hollywood made more quality adult dramas.

Honestly the holdovers was just decent, but it’s a kind of film they just don’t make anymore so it seemed revelatory
