I would say 30 is fairly good shape.

Last I did pushups I was trying to strengthen my back (which has never given me any problem but I want it to stay that way), and I got to about 42 before I pooped out.  About 2 years ago.

Hs and college was over 100.

Primary exercise was running, pull ups, push ups, sit ups.

haven’t tried in a very long time

issues with both shoulders so doubt I can do many now

Pull ups are easy for grade schoolers. I could probably have done 1000 in 6th grade, but man ,you lose that quick as the years go on. And I don't even mean because of age. I weighed 155 and could bench press 310 when I was 28, but I don't think I could have done 20 pull ups at the time. You gotta work at that. Of course I never tried.

I haven’t done push ups in forever. I could do over 100 when I was younger. Within the last 10 years or so I tried as many as I could, hit 50 and gave up. I woke up the next day sore AF.

Ok peace.

Did you ever try a thing (I just call it the wheel) that's a wheel with basically handles on both sides. You face down an just roll it out in front of you holding the handles? Works your stomach and lower back. After drinking a bunch of beers one night, a friend of mine bet me that I couldn't do 100 of those. I won the bet and literally couldn't  sit up the next morning to get out of bed. I had to roll out. Fock that hurt. And I was in good shape at the time.  😆

I still have one and use it. It's been my favorite workout thing for many years.

I agree. All the old fat guys bringing up their youth pushups couldn't drop and do ten right now. Unless you actually do pushups semi regularly, you aren't doing many. I embarrass kids at work when they say they can do more than my old azz. I do 3 sets of 30 to finish a chest workout

Agreed unless you train chest regularly or are super thin.

I do 2 sets of 15 a few days a week. But I don't think I can do over 30(25?) without taking a break.

I need to start exercising my upper body more.

I edited my original numbers down 🤣

I’ve seen it but never tried it. Probably works all kinds of stabilizing muscles that never get any exercise normally. Years ago we son got a Wii and my wife and I played tennis on it for hours. I woke up with a sore elbow. 😂

Getting older sucks.

I used to the wheel and jump rope. Then do fifty pushups and fifty sit ups during every commercial break during Letterman. No chance in hell I could do it now.

When I got a bad cholesterol report a few years ago even though I was slender/athletic I went 6 months without not one bite of a fried food or dessert.  Along with that I started doing push ups daily.  I realized quick that just because I wasn't fat I wasn't in the best shape.  I pulled off another 25 lbs and got really lean but still had to do a statin.  I kept doing the pushups daily for a couple years until I hurt my back doing them.

If you can do 25-30 in a setting you're in pretty good shape, way better than most.  I was in decent basketball playing shape until my second daughter was born and I gave up playing.  A couple years had passed before I started the cleaning up my diet and doing push ups.  It took me awhile to build up to doing that level of 25-30.   I found out cardio shape and push up shape are different things.  My back is the part of me that hurts the worst now when I tweak it from exercise at 50 years old.  I walk and jog a lot now.  I'm going to try to get back into the push ups but time to time it will tweak your back if you have any back issues.

I just tried out of curiosity.

I did 53, but in my defense, I haven't exercised in over a year, and the cat was trying to climb on my head while I was doing them.

It's not easy. I've used it all my life. You don't want to fock with them if you are overweight, or especially if you have any lower back issues.
