In Massachusetts you can withdraw cash from snap at the checkout line.

There should be a 5 year lifetime limit on receiving Welfare. During those 5 years, you forfeit your voting rights and survive on cheese, rice, and skim milk.

If you get $145/mo for food stamps for you and your child, do you think a person would buy an expensive cut of steak? They would be greatly limiting their ability to buy food for the rest of the month. Even if they did make that choice, isn’t it clear that they made some severe sacrifices in other areas to afford that luxury?

Why are you jealous of people who get food stamps? Over the years this is a constant complaint from you all. Once someone complained that they saw a shopper buying crab legs with food stamps. Mind your business! You have no idea what you’re seeing.

Maybe the person eats beans and tortillas all month to be able to splurge on 1 order of $5 crab legs for 1 day. Geesh. How miserable do you all have to be with your good salary to look at a poor person and judge them.

And furthermore, welfare isn’t food stamps. Those are 2 separate things. A person, a senior citizen for example, could have worked their entire lives but maybe qualifies for food stamps because their monthly social security is a low payment. Can you imagine some weasel side eyeing your hard working Dad while he’s grocery shopping who is now retired and on food stamps?

Some elderly people have to make themselves poor so they can qualify for Medicaid. Y’all need to STFU because these are issues you’ll have to face as your parents get older sicker and even worse as you get older and sicker. One bad illness, dementia or Alzheimer’s care could wipe out your savings.

Fair point.   I don't generally judge.

What the welfare system and other kinds of governmental programs are doing is paying people to fail. Insofar as they fail, they receive the money; insofar as they succeed, even to a moderate extent, the money is taken away." -  Thomas Sowell.

Monthly Social security is low because they didn't grind like the rest of us did or blew they money on a new whip or a miriade of other reasons other than woe is me BS you keep spreading..

Ever think that way?

No, but I am not going to waste my breath about it. You’ll remember my words when you need someone to care for your aging parents or when your kids are too busy to care for you.

All that BS you’re talking about….
You’re going to get a rude awakening when you realize how much nursing homes cost a month.

I'm chuckling thinking that when coding the systems for accepting SNAP, that you think they are going to pay to code in exclusions for items that are too luxury or that lawmakers are going to write the laws like that.

What's funny is I also purchased a birthday card for my wife.  Welfare wasn't an accepted payment option so they have no problem with coding.  HTH

No-it's because BDay cards would be in a category not accepted by welfare.  Steak, even mignon probably falls under grocery which is covered by welfare. HTH

I want to know that those on welfare are suffering, just a bit.  Basically I want them subsisting on gruel, spam, parsnips and turnips.  I want them to have a Dickensonian existence.  They should be required to change their names to Fagen, and the artful Dodger, and the like.  When i get in line at the grocery store they should have to stand aside and address me as Gov'ner while they try to snatch my billfold and watch fob.

Welfare is a cash benefit, it’s cash. Food stamps are to buy food only. You can’t use food stamps to buy toothpaste, sanitary napkins, soap or greeting cards. So a person on welfare, when they go to the grocery store, they use their food stamps to buy the food portion of their grocery bill and the non food items will be paid for with their welfare benefits (cash).
So way back when I received welfare and food stamps, they didn’t have a card (which made it shameful to have to use food stamps-a card gives you a bit of dignity because no one can really see that you’re poor) I had to pay the food part with my food stamps and the stuff like diapers and laundry detergent with my welfare cash benefit. (Years ago you’d have to cash your welfare check at check cashing place. Now the money is on the card.)

Only scammers get rich from welfare/food stamps: Mormoms fall under that category.

My only issue with welfare is the abuse and lack of verification.  As an example, there's a Section-8 housing complex about a mile and a half from my house.  I'll drive by and see $60k+ SUV's and other luxury vehicles parked there all the time.  Then you see the occasional 65"+ 4K TV being brought into one of those houses.

The price for a month in a nursing home is absolutely insane. Thankfully, my parents (who weren't rich btw) were responsible and started paying for nursing home/assisted-living insurance back in 2001.

They are probably criminals. These people make money under the table that can't be tracked, so they still qualify. There is verification, but the government doesn't know about the cash.

When I lived in the emerald triangle in NorCal, you'd see this everywhere. The illegal pot growers were all on medicaid and welfare, while rolling around in $90k trucks with a couple hundred grand in cash at home, frequently buried somewhere. And they vote almost exclusively Republican.

About 15 years ago, I heard a guy tell this story. He became friends with a homeless guy (alcoholic) He'd go to the grocery store with him, pick out $150 worth of the food items he liked, have the guy use his snap card to pay, & when they got outside, he'd give the guy $75 which he could then use to purchase alcohol. Helluva system.

Astounding that they make it even easier in Massachusetts. Then again, what should we expect from the land of barney frank.

Is that why blue cities are loaded with people like this where only Democrats are elected?  Kinda weird.  So many people voting Republican, yet Democrats keep winning and those people never get caught.

How much infrastructure would it require to vet potential recipients of these services to ensure little or no fraud was occurring? How much more would we spend on that infrastructure than the fraud itself costs? How much would MAGA complain about big government making decisions to screw the hardworking Americans if we did that? Kinda weird.

People who don’t want children and make efforts, such as birth control and abstinence, aren’t having children. The only people who are having children that don’t want them and can’t afford them are people who had unplanned pregnancies. The only way to get rid of an unplanned or unwanted pregnancy is through abortion.
