Maine sports governing body says trans athletes can still compete in women's sports despite Trump order

Recommended Posts

Keep up the good work Maine. Let the high school girls who want to compete in sports suffer. They deserve it, right?

The executive director of the primary governing body for high school sports in the state of Maine said athletic teams will continue to determine eligibility based on a student's stated gender identity, despite the president's executive order seeking to keep "men out of women's sports."

Mike Burnham, executive director of the Maine Principals Association (MPA), said the president's order conflicts with state law aimed at protecting human rights and, as a result, the MPA will defer to the latter when it comes to determining athletic eligibility.

California isn't changing either.

State's rights.  I'm fine with this.  The thing is, the executive order protects the states that want to protect the rights of women against the ones who don't.  So, if a team from Maine or California travels to say, Ohio, for example... any men on those women's teams will not be allowed to participate in those sporting events.  Schools in states that want to protect women's rights, can decide for themselves if they want to schedule sporting events in states where they don't want to protect women's rights.  The NCAA is currently saying that they will uphold the executive order, so this would mainly be for high school and lower level sports... is my guess.

If the constituents of those states don't like their laws, they're free to elect someone who will change them.

I am sure that all the MAGA/Trump "States Rights" folks here will fully support Maine's decision. 😀

So if any trannie athlete from Maine competes out of state, everyone gets arrested.  I’m fine with that compromise.

It wouldn't get to that point.  If a team in Maine travels to a state upholding federal law, the dude can not compete.  If they refuse, they forfeit.  They'd travel for nothing.  No one would be arrested.

This is going to be interesting, ncaa already said no to men in woman’s sports.  I think you will be seeing teams being given a suspension by the ncaa if they do not change their thinking.   Indeed

I hope Trump figures out a way to stop all federal funding to states that do not comply.

The NCAA is the rule of law for universities.  The E.O. states that men can be a part of the team, but can not compete.  The NCAA is complying with that, so if a school like San Jose St wants to keep the dude on their Volleyball team, they're allowed to do so, he just can't actually play.  I don't believe there's a work-around.  Is it possible that SJSU and UCLA agree to let the dude play?  Maybe.  If that's the case, I'm ok with it as long as all the ladies involved are 100% unanimous in letting it happen.  If 1 woman says "no", it's "no".

Nah, states rights.  If the people in the state don't like it, they can elect someone to change the law.

I remember Obama threatening to withhold federal funds if schools didn’t adhere to the tranny stuff, bathrooms etc. So there you go.

I would like to see the women's teams from the other states who travel to Cali or Maine in the women's sports games dress their whole men's teams and have them say they feel like a woman on that day of the game.

This was entirely predictable.  The Left will continue to die on this hill, over and over again.  It’s the gift that keeps on giving.

Imagine dying on the hill of high school boys being allowed to compete against girls.  It’s the most asinine, unforced error in the history of politics. 😆

Absolutely.  The other thing that needs to be done, and will be done soon, is opposing teams refusing to compete.  Boycott.  That’ll end this nonsense.

If Trump is going to ignore judge rulings, I'm fine with finding ways to ignore his executive orders.

Good luck with that.  The Department of Education has announced investigations in to two state athletic associations that said the same thing.  I suspect all these entities will come to heel eventually.  It may just take a little time before they realize who the big dog is.

This is a good education for the young female athletes in those states. Especially those in individual sports.

Learning what right and wrong is the hard way. It's a sucky way to learn it, but it will set in more deeply.

still maintain that former men should not be able to play on women's teams.

former women should sign a waiver for additional risks involved with playing on men's teams.

He already made the decision. You are late to the party.

States can do what they want as they should.

Yeah, we know how it works.  When your guy is running things, he has the absolute authority to do anything, anywhere at anytime.

When it's not your guy, he has no power to do anything, even in his own Executive branch.

We're done playing around.  The adults are now in charge.

SCOREBOARD!

312-226!

This thread is a perfect example of how 90% of the country agrees with Trump on this issue while the other 10% don't.  While that is the case, the left side of the aisle will champion the cause of the 10% because they don't like the person leading the 90%.  But when the left side of the aisle gets back into power, they'll eliminate men playing women's sports and take credit for it.

You "formerly altered men".

Any woman should be able to play in men's sports if pro teams want them. But no focking Rooney type rule should require men's sports to have them.
