TheNewGirl 1,506 Posted 17 hours ago We have a huge collection of DVDs and Blu-Rays and I am trying to figure out WTF to do with them all. We've copied most of them over to a private media server in our house, so we can watch movies from that, no real need for a player anymore. Plus with streaming, you can buy/rent. So...what do you do with all of these movies? I'd love the extra cabinet space back. We also still have all of our CDs but they are in plastic bins in the garage and haven't been looked at in years (easily over 10 years).
The Elevator Killer 569 Posted 16 hours ago Some might be worth some money. Otherwise take them to a pawn shop and they will buy them for like $1 each.
Ron_Artest 1,612 Posted 16 hours ago We've donated a bunch but still have some. But I've literally sat on the couch, wanted to watch a movie, and spent $5 to stream the movie instead of getting up and finding the disc, putting it in, switching inputs, finding the other remote, going through the menu, etc.
Bier Meister 1,719 Posted 16 hours ago We have a decent collection as well, but haven't copied them
Strike 5,618 Posted 16 hours ago I have some from a long time ago but haven't touched them in forever. Now I just d/l whatever I want to watch and add it to my media server.
Cdub100 3,939 Posted 16 hours ago I sold all mine years ago. Recently I've been buying DVD and blurays. Mostly for deer camp but

This is what I do too. I am like, "Eh, it's $5." Much easier than getting up and searching for the movie.
MLCKAA 578 Posted 16 hours ago We don’t have any. When the kids were young there was a reason for some of them, but now it’s pointless to me. Back when I settled homeowners claims I’d meet people who had thousands and they’d act like they were so important. I just shook my head.
Drizzay 723 Posted 16 hours ago I've kept a couple of Music Concert/Documentary ones that have a bunch of extras added to them. It was kind of a pain to try and copy them to digital files. This was also 5+ years ago, so maybe the technology is better. Everything else I pawned.
MDC 7,523 Posted 15 hours ago I don’t have a DVD player, but I kept my DVDs. A few weeks ago we rented a cabin in the sticks that had a player and a wide collection of movies. Watched Young Frankenstein with my son for the first time.
seafoam1 3,126 Posted 15 hours ago How hard is it to stick a dvd in your gaming system and hitting play? Unless you don't have one I guess. I also have a little laptop like dvd player on my desk if I just want to watch one of my old dvds while I work on other stuff.

Let me get this straight: You’re an unmarried, apartment-dwelling mailman who wears sweatpants every day, AND you own a gaming console even though you’re in your mid-fifties and don’t have kids?

My girlfriend is hot, we are worth at least $2.5M together at this point and it's only going positive, no debt, we are are happy and both healthy. You live in fish town, are married to an overweight woman who wears moomoos daily and you are crying every day on this site about egg prices cause you can't afford them. It's fun watching you get triggered so easily.

I probably have 100 of my top 100 favorite movies and series of all time. Why not keep them unless you are extremely broke and need the money bad?

My son has one in his room, doesn't use it to watch movies. Like I said, if we watch movies, they are streamed in some way; services, media server, etc. I do have a DVD player that connects to my laptop, but I also rarely watch movies that way, I still use streaming services. If they are meaningless to you, it's a crime to not get rid of them. If you are a garage sale person, that will probably be the most fun way to get rid of them. And maybe make a few bucks. If not, give them to someone who might want them. If no one wants them, do whatever it takes to get rid of them. My GF and I are all about getting rid of stuff that is useless to us. We donate a lot over time. But we also know garbage when it's garbage time..

I had a soon to be girlfriend back in the 80s give me a tape of some of her favorite songs that she thought I would like. Must have taken her at least a few hours to put that together back then. I have really fond memories of her and her family even today. If I still had that tape, I would buy a cassette player to keep those memories alive (I'm sure you can still buy them), I love my present, but I also love my past. It was good stuff. And a fun time. Gepetto 1,375 Posted 7 hours ago I have a small collection of Blu-ray movies but they are my favorite movies of all time, and some of the best most watchable movies most people would agree. I don't have the Disney channel and I just ordered blu-rays of the Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett and looking forward to finally watching those shows. listen2me 23 1,876 Posted 5 hours ago People turn on netflix or any other app and tool around shows/docs/movies unsure of what looks decent to watch for a half hour straight trying to find something. Yet cant walk over to the closet pick up a case and put it in the dvd player. Its a weird world in 2025. For the record: not a big movie or show guy and have no idea how people find the time to watch so many series/docs/movies. Some of you have exhausted every app you have. I didnt have a mass collection of dvds. But still have maybe 50-75 dvds in 2 boxes in my closet. Like the one post said earlier, mostly all stuff I think is good and or just classics. If im in the mood ill go pluck it and throw it in the rarely used dvd player. And it takes 50 seconds.... I dont need a dvd player or dvds really. But if I have both, I see no reason not to use them, if it makes sense. I would totally get anyone that just gave away or sold all their dvd stuff. Is 5 dollars important? No, not really. But what is the point of me storing dvds anywhere in the house....and a dvd player.. if Id opt to pay 5 dollars to not use them for the same exact thing?
