The federal government shouldn't be involved in personal contracts.  I say remove same and opposite sex marriage from the governments purview.  This would open the door to fixing a ton of other issues.

Marriage for the sake of knowing who the father of your kids is, or if you're the father of your kids is kind of obsolete with the introduction of paternity tests. Marriage is almost more of a business arrangement or partnership now, IMO.

But now later in life enjoying the financial benefits of the government being involved. 

I'd much rather get the government and incentives out of how many kids you decide to spit out.  Magnitudes more beneficial.

Married men live longer than single men, so not entirely pointless. Men do better with a wife.

The paradox is that married women live shorter lives than single women. 

I WILL agree with you that there aren't many modern women, or men for that matter that are marriage material. Lots of man babies out there.
