That's a big part of it, but I think there's more. Sedentary lifestyle. People now spend between 7 & 10 hours online per day.

It’s not the food IMO.  It’s TV, video games, smart phones, more cars.  You can eat as much crap as you want if you actually exercise, but fat people don’t exercise.

There are a lot of factors.  There's been a culture change.  People are able to be lazier.  People do not get enough exercise and they do not eat as healthy.  Our food has changed.  It's become more expensive to eat healthy now as well.  Doing nothing and eating crap food is more convenient than it's ever been.

Not sure about vs the 70’s, but as someone that was a kid in the 80’s and ate a bunch of crap, the food now is pretty much the same IMO.
