Kirk was seen sitting under a white tent emblazoned with the slogans, “The American Comeback” and “Prove Me Wrong.”

A single shot rings out and Kirk reaches up with his hand as a large volume of blood gushes from the left side of his neck. 

Stunned spectators gasp and scream. Some run away.

A person who was taken into custody at Utah Valley University was not the suspect, according to a person familiar with the investigation who was not authorized to speak publicly.

It was not clear if authorities were still searching the campus for a suspect.

As news of Kirk’s death spread, some shared his past statements about gun violence including recirculating this comment attributed to him: 

“I think it’s worth to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God-given rights. That is a prudent deal. It is rational.”

I know. Add in the fact it was one shot, 200 yards away right into the carotid artery. Seems like a very highly accurate shooter using likely a high powered and very accurate rifle.

How did they know the shot was made from 200 yards away if they don't know where the shooter was? 

And 200 yards is not a hard shot for anyone who spends time on a range. My 13 year old Daughter can blow a gnats head off at 200+ yards.

Good point. Kirk's head was leaning forward and then right when he moved back and straightened up is when the bullet hit him. So the shooter may have fired for his head accurately and got his neck because he moved his head up to speak.
