Mike Tomlin quits..

Recommended Posts

Next one up should be interesting, great job, it’s an nfl job with lots of job security, next one up, would be the Steelers fourth head coach since 1969, That’s the same number of depends seafoam has used in the last hour.

Question is where does he go?  Huge Rooney rule win for an NFL Team to actually hire him cause he is a good coach that you don't have to force on the city to please some stupid NFL Rule.

Would be awesome if Harbaugh, Tomlin, and Stefanski all switched AFCN jobs.

Direct line from Tomlin to Dungy to Noll. Tomlin was hired after the Vikes he was DC for finished 6-10 with the 14th ranked scoring defense. The Rooneys know some things. Tomlin may finally be burned out. Can’t blame him.

Cleveland has no excuse. Harbaugh or Tomlin would be great franchise builders.

I'd welcome any of them in sunny Phoenix, which is much nicer than the shiotholes that are Cleveland, Baltimore, or Pittsburgh.

Sure, but he might want to actually win football games.

That rules out Cleveland.

Then there's the other issue.  My skip level manager lives in Phoenix.  As an experiment he baked cookies in his car and it actually worked.

Suddenly I'm craving a car baked cookie.

I only want Tomlin if he can guarantee that Arthur Smith comes with him. The three TE offense is the way to go in 2026.

He sounds like a woman.  With a black leather interior.

He'll probably do what Payton did and do TV next season and get paid by the Steelers, then take on a new team in 2027.  Because he's still under contract, a team wanting to hire him, would have to trade for him.

Of that list, I’d rather live in Pittsburgh and visit Phoenix. I haven’t been to Cleveland in years. Baltimore is just a smaller crappier Philly with a better aquarium.

:dunno:

If I was Tomlin, I'd go for one of those cushy studio host gigs.  Networks will fall over themselves to get him too.

How is Cowher and Dungy in the HOF and not Coughlin?

Since he quit.  How is he still getting paid by the steelers

He doesn't appear to like speaking much. Or maybe that's just his "coach" persona?

From what I've heard, he gets paid if the Steelers hold his rights.  They can release his rights to which he wouldn't be paid, and can take any job elsewhere and the Steelers get no compenstion.  If the Steelers wish to keep hold of his rights and force another team to compensate the them for Tomlin, then they have to pay him.

Similar to what happened with Payton.

Even if he voluntarily quits?   I need to see that somewhere.

Yeah, I don't know.  :dunno:   I work with a Steelers fan, that's what he told me.  He listens to Steelers podcasts and stuff all the time.  LOL

Anything is possible, the NFL is really weird sometimes with their contracts

It sounded fishy to me too, but I took his word for it.  My thinking was what you said here, in that there might be something in his contract.  I have no idea.  To be honest, it's the Steelers... I don't care enough to look into it.  🤣

Everybody thinks they are above average. But Tomlin truly was every year for 2 decades. Kudos to him, good luck in the future.

Based on the current geek club, I think I'm pretty safe thinking I'm above average and if I'm not I probably won't figure it out.

Best guess is they gave him the option to resign instead of getting fired. The guy has been there for a long time. They don't want any pettiness around the contract on a coach like that. He's not some 3 year coach who hasn't won anything.

His team was average but I disagree that he was. He was exceptional getting those teams to the playoffs.

That was my immediate thought as well.  saves face for both sides really.  So if that was how it went down, kudos to the Steelers.  And if that is true, then they should also release him from any obligations and let the man make his living elsewhere.

I think I saw him outside of WAWA asking people for tree fiddy.

Actually...that's  probably one of his conditions.   He agrees to walk, so they don't have to fire him, but in exchange, he has full freedom

The Steelers haven’t been competitive in their last seven playoff games.

I was kind of wondering if PIT would try to extort a pick out of his new employer or just let him off the hook entirely.
