Direct line from Tomlin to Dungy to Noll. Tomlin was hired after the Vikes he was DC for finished 6-10 with the 14th ranked scoring defense. The Rooneys know some things. Tomlin may finally be burned out. Can’t blame him.

I'd welcome any of them in sunny Phoenix, which is much nicer than the shiotholes that are Cleveland, Baltimore, or Pittsburgh.

He'll probably do what Payton did and do TV next season and get paid by the Steelers, then take on a new team in 2027.  Because he's still under contract, a team wanting to hire him, would have to trade for him.

Of that list, I’d rather live in Pittsburgh and visit Phoenix. I haven’t been to Cleveland in years. Baltimore is just a smaller crappier Philly with a better aquarium.

From what I've heard, he gets paid if the Steelers hold his rights.  They can release his rights to which he wouldn't be paid, and can take any job elsewhere and the Steelers get no compenstion.  If the Steelers wish to keep hold of his rights and force another team to compensate the them for Tomlin, then they have to pay him.

Similar to what happened with Payton.

Yeah, I don't know.     I work with a Steelers fan, that's what he told me.  He listens to Steelers podcasts and stuff all the time.  LOL

It sounded fishy to me too, but I took his word for it.  My thinking was what you said here, in that there might be something in his contract.  I have no idea.  To be honest, it's the Steelers... I don't care enough to look into it.

Based on the current geek club, I think I'm pretty safe thinking I'm above average and if I'm not I probably won't figure it out.

Best guess is they gave him the option to resign instead of getting fired. The guy has been there for a long time. They don't want any pettiness around the contract on a coach like that. He's not some 3 year coach who hasn't won anything.

His team was average but I disagree that he was. He was exceptional getting those teams to the playoffs.

That was my immediate thought as well.  saves face for both sides really.  So if that was how it went down, kudos to the Steelers.  And if that is true, then they should also release him from any obligations and let the man make his living elsewhere.
