Benching Brady

I would rather play Brady vs the Rams.

I benched Reed for Ertz this week using the same logic. I am now crying in my coffee. Are you sure you want to do this?

I rode Evans with a bad matchup under the don't bench your studs rule last week and it paid off. Maybe I will rethink benching brady but I think Winston has a higher ceiling this week.

Winston no.

Roethlisberger, sure. If you've got two studs vying for the start then never bench your studs changes

Overthinking is the death of many a fantasy football team... But hey, maybe you'll buck the trend!

Wish my opponent was just as dumb.

First of all, it's m'fing Tom Brady.

Secondly, has this dude ever had back to back dud games? Certainly not these last few seasons.

Third, didn't Brees just torch the Rams for 40 points in standard?

Fourthly, Gronk should be back, and usually Brady's numbers or at least TD's increase with Gronk.

Fifth, even if Gronk sits, Brady has had one of his best games this year without Gronk.

It's Tom Brady....against the Rams. Dare you to go Winston.

I understand why the op is having this thought but I couldn't do it. The Rams are a pretty darn good defense and NE seems a bit injured up. NE isnt in a fight for their playoff life either so it makes me wonder if they risk Gronk or anyone else who isn't 100 percent. I am the biggest Brady fan on this site but I understand why he might make this change for next week.

NE is in a fight for their playoff life with Oakland for home field throughout the AFC playoffs. That's HUGE. You think they want to travel to Oakland?

Interesting question - so I had to look it up. I looked for 2+ game stretches that included games with 1 TD or less and didn't have any 3TD or 2TD/300 yard games and I excluded week 17 games. Obviously there was the start to the 2014 season, but also some less than stellar performances (but not necessarily total duds) bunched together in the last quarter of both 2014 and 2015 - interestingly both of those streaks include games at the Jets...

Week Opponent Comp Att Yds TD Int

2014-1 at Dolphins 29 56 249 1 0

2014-2 at Vikings 14 21 149 1 0

2014-3 vs Raiders 24 37 234 1 0

2014-4 at Chiefs 14 23 159 1 2

2014-15 vs Dolphins 21 35 287 2 1

2014-16 at Jets 23 35 182 1 1

2015-14 at Texans 22 30 226 2 0

2015-15 vs Titans 23 35 267 2 0

2015-16 at Jets 22 31 231 1 1

Besides, the Rams defense not that scary especially on the road.

A dud for Brady is still not too bad a game

A big game from Brady could be the highest scoring game of the week or even season, do you really want to have that on the bench?

The two defenses are so close that they're practically a wash. SD is yielding the 17th most points to QBs this year; LAR, the 19th most. What's not so close is the performance of the two QBs: Brady is the QB3 in 2016 standard points-per-game scoring at 26.9, Winston is the QB13 at 22.8. Winston is also on the road, where he's scoring two less points-per-game than he does at home.

Brady's 2nd and 3rd highest scoring games on the season came against CLE (NE won 33-13) and SF (NE won 30-17), respectively, where one might have been concerned going in that the Patriots would have such an easy time that they'd ease up on the gas pedal - Brady doesn't need to be in a shootout to score well.

You can only entertain benching Brady if the opponent has a bad run D. Then Blount gets gameplanned and it's a problem. Against good run Ds I trust Brady completely. They will just throw all day.

Overthinking cost me a game last week. Start your best players. Matchup should only matter in extreme circumstances or when picking between marginal players.

You rode Evans? He is money almost every week and a top 5 WR. In what world do you live in where you would think about sitting him?

The only time I'm thinking of benching Brady is week 15 @ Denver.

Having said that, if there's a concern with Brady it isn't matchups. It's the loss of Gronk. Doubt they rush him back this week, and I'd be surprised if he plays next week either. Two winnable home games against inferior opponents....the Pats can afford to be a little cautious. But I'm guessing they aren't pedal to the metal, huge offensive explosions.

Brady will be good. But I don't think he'll be wicked awesome.

The Pats are in must win and playing a team with a good run D. Expect Brady to air it out. Do not bench him. Plus they are likely to get a ton of possessions again LA.

I will reverse my decision and hope not to regret it.

Now you've doomed Brady. Thanks a lot.

I would like to see an entire post history for any other forums Weepaws posts in. Just to see if the slightly, vaguely asbergersy/autismy vibe comes off there as well. It would really be interesting. I dont mean this post to be insulting or flaming in any way, im just speaking my thoughts.

If it makes you feel any better, I'm still sticking with Ben so Brady should be just fine. (Now, I'm just wishing my opponent would bench Stafford for Winston.)

Nice!! So he might not light up the Rams like Brees did, but 2 TDs is looking good for Brady based on recent history. I, for one, hope he sucks because I'm playing against him.

It's gonna be interesting without Gronk.

In the semis of one league I have Brady, Brees and Ryan and can play a QB in the OP flex spot. I'm thinking about benching Brees for Ryan and Brady.

I have gone with Ryan 4 times since Brady's return and it cost me only once. There was never a huge difference. Strange season I am in the playoffs already, but of the four teams I am the fourth choice. That is why it is called fantasy strange things happen. I have been playing since 1980, and the guy running the league says this is it for him so I am counting on the big help - LUCK, could be my final season!!!

I'm thinking of benching Brady this weekend for... Joe Flacco :o

Yes it's insane. But Flacco has been playing not-sh1tty lately and I think the Ravens D is going to give New England fits.

Someone talk me off the ledge

Same choice this week Winston looks like the better play. Maybe this week I will have the guts to bench brady. Only a one pt difference last week.

Great matchup against Baltimore. The Ravens can actually score and stop the run. Brady will need to really ball this week.

I often find that when I'm really torn between two players, it ends up not making much of a difference. Instead, it's the guy I never considered starting that blows up on my bench or the no-brainer starter that turns in a dud. Anyways, if you really got it in your mind to bench Brady - go ahead and do it. I consider Winston's match-up this week to be way better than last week.
