Saint Elistan 106 Posted November 6, 2014 8 and 9, soon to be 10 Wii U is a solid choice then. Especially with the potential for sibling rivalry! Definitely get these so they can play together... Mario Kart 8 (Competitive Racing) - Already Released Super Smash Brothers (Competitive & Co-Operative Fighting) - Coming November 21st Rayman Legends (Co-Operative Platforming) I would also consider... Pikmin 3 Super Mario 3D World Legend of Zelda: Windwaker HD Wii U is also the cheapest investment at the moment, so that's a plus for you.

Frozenbeernuts 1,652 Posted November 6, 2014 Get an xbox one or ps4. They will grow out of the wii. I just bought xbox one, these are my first impressions. It comes with a hdmi cable which is a nice bonus. The new controller is lighter. The r2 and l2 buttons, however, seem more difficult to press, as in transitioning from the "trigger" buttons to the r2 l2 buttons isnt as fluid as it should be. The controller still comes with AA batteries, so a rechargeable pack is separate. Absolutely stupid. interface is very similar to the new windows program. Not as easy to navigate at first, but kids usually figure it out quickly. Basically what herbivore said, get them the system that most of their friends have. Right now some games like cod are having server problems, but not all games are.
KSB2424 3,083 Posted November 6, 2014 My soon to be 6 year old is getting a WiiU for Christmas. He loves the whole Mario stuff and dad likes the sports games. I feel like that is the proper gaming system for kids. Once they become teenagers they'll want the XBox One / PS4 type system.
Sho Nuff 719 Posted November 6, 2014 Have: PS2...don't really use it much anymore. Wii...kids still use this from time to time. Want: Son wants an XBox 360...just to play minecraft which he already does on the computer and iPad. Is probably rather have the PS4 just because I prefer the PS controllers over Xbox controllers by far. Will probably hold off til next year's birthday or Christmas to upgrade for him (and me)

Its nice that the controller is lighter, but the old one never seemed heavy.

Ive never been a fan of Xbox controllers. Maybe because I had always had a playstation and then the PS2. Just always thought the Sony Controller was perfect and much more useful to me and intuitive than the Xbox controllers.

rholio 339 Posted November 6, 2014 There's a few questions you need to ask when choosing a video game system: 1) Do you like video games? yes- buy a PC no- next question: 2) Do you have any friends? no- buy a PS4 yes- next question: 3) Real friends or online friends? real- buy a Wii U Online- buy an Xbox One http://www.giftsforageek.com/marketplace/418094978/Video_Game_Flow_Chart_Mousepad
Frozenbeernuts 1,652 Posted November 7, 2014 The xbox controller is really annoying me. I wish my friends would have bought a ps4 because it is definitely superior. But again, if the kids friends all have xbox, get him an xbox.

He really wants one...but are not going to justify a $400 system and games as a Christmas gift.

The shooter games are too old for my kids.

Sho Nuff 719 Posted November 21, 2014 Xbox for Xmas no games. 1 game for bday Bday is in September. Worst gift ever that would sit around for that long. Even at its cheapest...its something like $329 (probably with Halo or something on black friday). With one controller. Ive considered it...still considering it...but he knows the cost and he won't be getting much else if he gets the One. He has talked about the 360 and knows he could get more games that way and with money he earns or gets from family and stuff.
