About time.

talk about stringing a team along.

He'll probably come back to feed his ego, and we'll have to endure more stories of perserverance through tough times for him.

I've understood that the decision was made a while back, but the Packers wanted to time the announcement just so. What we are hearing now may just be the Packers PR machine grinding its gears.

Brett's been getting a raw deal on this board. The facts:

* Favre's recent on-field play has been better than credited.

* Favre's not milking his stories, the press is offering what sells.

* Favre doesn't feed Madden those dumb lines--not his fault.

* Favre is still a better QB than half of the starters in the NFL.

Favre mouthed off almost 10 years ago that he was going to retire. And, much to his surprise, the press bit hold of that bait chomping down hook, line, sinker and the whole dam boat. He had no idea the intensity of his celebrity.

If he's done: Great. Let's rebuild.

If he plays: Great. I love watching the guy play.

He's averaged 22 interceptions a year over the last three years. That's not bad, that's putrid.

He was totally out of line for commenting on Javon Walker's contract situation last year. If he had a problem, he should have gone to Walker and kept it out of the media. Besides, his argument that players should honor their contracts, is a little hollow since the owners don't have to honor them.

I read that he was a total d*ck to Aaron Rodgers last year. I admit this could have been total B.S., but he comes across as such a little prima-donna that I could see him having some trouble with the new kid in town.

I think he loves the whole "will he or won't he" drama and milks it for everything it's worth. Be a man and decide shortly after the season and let the Packers and their fans get on with their lives.

Cause Walker kept it out of the media?

As for the owners not having to honor them...nothing hollow about it...the players through the player's association have agreed to the current system under the CBA...they have nobody to blame but themselves for that one.

You can read that he was a d...to Rodgers last year...does not make it right...and much of wha twas said about there was complete BS and well overblown.

Your last paragraph...disagree completely...I think he hates the drama and would rather have the media just let him be...

Perhaps the most overhyped, overexposed, and quite frankly overrated star of all time. So long, and don't let the door hit you in the ass on your way to Mississippi.

Perhaps one of the most respected by his peers, guy that played on sheer will, guts, and a strong arm guy...that the media hyped because people would talk about it...that there have ever been.

And what is overrated about a guy who will finish in 1st or 2nd in nearly every passing category by the time he retires?

Well how about this for honoring contracts.

Brett is under contract, it didn't end. He is not a FA QB.

So this stated, if he were to keep from being a hypocrit, Brett will return and keep playing through to the end of his contract.

When does this end btw?

There are times, more and more frequently where Brett and TO are becoming to look like Twins from a certain point of view. Maybe its those sensitive teeth Brett has.

Perhaps one of the most respected by his peers....

I'm not so sure that's true. Even if it is, that still doesn't justify the media's facination with this guy.

guy that played on sheer will, guts, and a strong arm guy...

How does that make him so special? That can be said for half the starting QBs in the league.

And what is overrated about a guy who will finish in 1st or 2nd in nearly every passing category by the time he retires?

What's overrated is the notion that this guy can do no wrong. Throws 6 ints in a playoff game at St. Louis? Well, he's simply trying to overcompensate for the lack of talent around him. Throw an idiotic underhand pass over the line of scrimmage that turned into an interception in the red zone during a playoff game? Oh, that's just Brett having a good time and never giving up on a play. Throw a hail mary moon ball up for grabs in Philly in yet another playoff game that turned into a game-clinching interception? Well, that's just Brett being his "gunslinger" self.

I'm not saying the guy stinks; I'm simply saying it's gotten to the point that everyone seems to be afraid to say something bad about the guy. And who cares about stats. John Elway's numbers don't come close to matching Favre's, but I'll take Elway in a heartbeat over Brett.

That's just the Homer in you, those of us looking at it from the outside see a guy who used to be a star, is now an average QB that was out of line with Walker last year, has thrown more interceptions over the past few years than anyone in football, cost his team a playoff game vs the Eagles, made them waste a draft pick last year becaue of this retirement BS and is at it again.

He's past his prime, some guys can play to 40, Favre shouldn't be one of them. That team isn't winning with or without him for a few more years. Just go away.

So, what do you guys think his decision is going to be?

That's easy, he's going to return, and why shouldn't he. He's got everyone in GB fooled that he can win still, but most people know the team needs to move on and rebuild without him. He's holding them hostage, and he'll do it another year with 3,000 yards passing 20 TD's and 25 int's with a 7-9 record.

We'll be doing this in 2007 too.

I can't think of a good reason for him to come back, besides collecting a fat paycheck or stroking his ego with a farewell tour for madden and sho.

Love of the game? Say what you want about overblown Favre hype, but all the media guys who know him swear he's a lot more passionate about the game than most NFL players, whether or not he knows what's good for his team anymore.

Because retirement is the same as holding out right?

There are actual provisions in the contract for retirement...not the same as Walker.

Brett and TO the same? That is quite funny...and earns a huge

Thank you for yet another ignorant post.

If you have seen or heard anything from Favre in his career...it is that he does not want a farewell tour. That would be one thing that would not shock me about the guy...despite Madden's mancrush for him...it is not what he is about.

Me...I just defend people like him from idiotic comments like yours.

Of course, Brett can do wrong. You've alluded to some of the more bone-headed things. I don't disagree. Here's a shocker: He had dumb interceptions the year they won the Super Bowl too. Granted, not as many, but they were still there. That's directly related to talent and the quality (lack) of coaching recently.

Ignorance looks at the stats and says "He sucks." Reality looks at the big picture and sees a QB who is more than capable of winning games. Favre was more mobile last season than he was in five years. He led the NFL in TD passes midway through last season (Last season, not 1997) before the whole team threw in the towel.

And last season, John Madden himself even said "Favre just didn't make a very good throw there." I agree the media has overblown his importance, but I disagree wholeheartedly in how much that importance is overblown. He's easily the best QB in the division. Not even close.

they practically gave him a farewell tour last year just in case he did retire, gimme a break the guy loves the attention imo. Quit acting like you actually know the guy or something because you don't. I bet if he comes back this year (still waiting for you to tell me why he would) he announces this is his last year, just watch.

I believe Favre's fans want him to announce a 'farewell tour.' I know I do. And you're right, I don't know him. I've merely followed the guy for 14 years.

Favre would come back for three reasons: The money, the records and the love of the game. And those three things will probably change priority for him depending on the day of the week.

He would likely leave for three reasons: His family, his health and the accomplishments he already has.

I don't think it's a foregone conclusion that the team stinks this year. An 8-8 season seems well within reach. That the record could be 10-6 or 6-10 I think is intriguing. Does he think he can he make a difference? He may consider it a fun challenge.

Who did? Madden? Yeah...thats "they" right? Did he come out and rally for that type of thing? Nope...because from everything he has ever said and done it is the last thing he wants.

IMO your opinion is ignorant and based on nothing but your liking of another team...

I do not act like I know him...I am simply informed enough about what the guy has said and done his entire career and none of it points to a guy who seeks to bring attention to himself.

He may announce it is his last year...not to get the farewell tour...but to stop this circus...if he doesnt...idiots like you would be the first to start this crap up again by midseason and all of next offseason.

Fair enough. But allow to me to know beyond a shadow of a doubt that Brett Favre would be a better QB for the Packers this year than Kerry Collins or Aaron Rogers. And, since that is still true, it is certainly not time to say Goodbye.

Have you looked at Favre's numbers minus the past couple of seasons. They're phenomenal. Like many have said, it's not his fault that certain members of the media slobber all over him.

As for the interceptions, lots of great "gunslinging" QBs have thrown a high # of interceptions at certain points in their career. Go back and look at some of the "greats" and you'll see that. Only the controllled, ball control types like Aikman avoided that kind of scenario. (Not talking to you specifically here...just speaking to one of the points that was made)

There are times, more and more frequently where Brett and TO are becoming to look like Twins from a certain point of view. Maybe its those sensitive teeth Brett has.

Nice fishing expedition on this one.

okay, here's a legit question for packer fans:

do you really want favre back at this point?

before answering, here's where i'm coming from: if he's agonizing this much over this decision and having it go down to the wire...does he really, truly "want it" anymore even if he does come back? that's something i don't see anyone in the media talking much about. everyone is looking at the end decision--come back or retire--and no one seems to be talking about what this foot-dragging indicates about favre's "fire" regardless of what the decision is.

he made the decision to come back last year about this same time (well, a little earlier) and he had this trainer and he was pumped, blah, blah, blah...and by october he was looking tired, old, and vacant-eyed.

last year i make the contention it would be better for the packers rebuilding process if favre didn't return. this year i think it's probably just plain better for brett if he doesn't return.

not to mention mccarthy deserves the chance sooner rather than later to put his print on the qb position and groom his guy (whoever that is).

Yeah, I want him back cause he gives them the best oppurtunity to win. They were in almost all of their games last year. Yes, he did put them in some holes, but he damn near made it out of many of them. It is clear to me that he can still play this position at a higher level then most qb's.

You know, I do wonder about Favre's fire. And it would be easier to forgive Rogers a few mistakes because he's learning and he will get better. It's exciting to watch a young guy grow. Take Cincy: They're all about hope right now with that team.

But then I realize it's Favre we're talking about. Say, if I went to see U2, I'd expect to see Bono. Even if logic said that U2 would be better with a younger, more fired-up singer, I would still pay more to see Bono. To see Favre play another year, I'd put off my hopes of "winning."

(And Remote is right about Favre being the best chance now anyway.)

Favre can still play!!!

I see where everyone is coming from about his picks and whatnot....he has never been a guy who throws very few picks ....he takes chances....and with the season last year he figured he'd take many chances...he has always been that type of QB...

to answer swamps question....yea as a packer fan i do want him back

reason- he has been the face of our franchise for the last 14 years....he gave us a reason to get excited and 1st excitment since the 60s packers....all packer fans will miss him when he's gone....beacsue he's that fun to watch....i will miss the comebacks, the streak, the excitment he brought, the way he played QB, and all in all just miss having # 4 under center...

i dont know what to compare it to.....for lack of a better comparison.....his last day is to packer fans as what Tigers last day is to golf fans.....you do not want the ride to come to an end....because you know it will never come back....

It is like what people of san fran, Dallas, and detroit would have felt ....if Rice eemitt, and Barry would have played for them until they just hung it up for good....(in barry's case, until he went out at the end of his 30s and people could feel it coming)...

As a Packers fan....and basically one who started to be a fan right when Favre stepping in....thats all I know...to me they arnt the packers without Favre....

Favre can still play and pull off some crazy comebacks (see the Panthers game)...I want Favre to return because as a packers fan I am greedy and do not want to see Favre's run come to an end....even tho I know it will.............soon

You should get a job in the booth. You're pretty good at sucking him off just as they do.

Sorry, when people are fans of a certain team for all their lives and they happen to grow up watching one of the greats....and the face of that orginization....then they have some respect for the guy and love nothing more than to watch him play....its called being true die hard fan...."not sucking a guy off"....idiots liek you use that phrase a little too much....to like a team or a player like a die hard fan does....doesnt have anything to do with sucking people off ya idiot....

go back to detention little guy...
