PREVIEW to tomorrow's episode

this is the episode boys....the episode where we get explained everything.

99% sure this episode will be the one Michael Emerson (who was also in Saw) talked about...

when he said near the end there'd be one with no regular characters in it (some people thought it'd be the Alpert one)

Yeah, and it was suppose to be a pure mythology episode. Supposedly it is when they will explain everything about the island, what exactly it is, why MIB is MIB, and Jacob is Jacob, ect. Questions should get answered.

I remember that. :pointstosky:

He was also a cop in one of the Saw movies.

I re-watched A. I. (Artificial Intelligence) with my daughter the other day on the free on demand movies cause I knew she would like it and he was in the beginning of that movie, too.

I have some cheap beach front property for sale, very cheap. Call me

Poor ed is either still watching...or now pissed he quit the show.

Either way...whats your purpose in here other than to whine about others watching the show?

I've been driving the Team MIB bandwagon all season long. Got on board while there is still a little bit of time left. Jacob is a pathetic momma's boy and MIB is the hero.

Now that it's over, this was one of the worst episodes of LOST of the whole series. THIS is what the planned for 6 seasons. THIS suckfest. Allison Janney was great. Everybody else sucked.

A cave of Lucky Charms cereal?

I am so disgusted right now. I gave up smoking a few months ago. I'm walking to the local convenience store to grab a carton. At least MIB is the good guy. That's satisfying.

THIS? THIS is what they planned? The series ended with Juliet smashing Jughead. Period.

MIB is the good guy? Can you actually say for certain that there ever was an MIB after he fell down the well? Obviously I could be wrong, but it's not hard to come to the conclusion based on what just happened that the smoke monster and Jacob's brother are a completely separate entity.

Gotta agree with PB - the Lucky Charms cave was lame as hell.

However, I didn't think the episode was a total wipe.

huh?

he turned into the smoke upon being thrown into the pool. same desire to use men, same desire to leave the island, same hatrid of what jacob stands for.

Well that's the logical conclusion, yeah. But logical conclusions don't always fly in LOST. Just sparkin' discussion other than the "zomg i hates teh lost nao".

However, I didn't think the episode was a total wipe.

I'm angry. With the build up to the Richard episode, it delivered. Huge.

With the buildup to this episode, I'm just really disappointed. They could have done SOOOOOOOOO much more with this episode. SOOOOOOOOOO much potential.

I'm just let down. Really, really let down.

I'll rewatch it, and try to rewatch it with less anticipation and more of an open mind. I desperately wanted this episode to prove me wrong that the ending of the show was going to be.....not good.

Wow. I'm really let down. Headed into the final moments of the series with zero momentum. I will not be happy this weekend typing away. Why? Why are they....Sigh.

Sigh. I'm numb.

That answered NO questions at all.

And all signs point to MIB is the good guy here. Jacob threw him into a well where he expected MIB would suffer something worse than death.

This show was once great, now sucks. They are making this sht up as they go and don't even care if it is consistent. This episode contradicts so much from previous eps/seasons that I don't even want to get into it. Suffice to say, we've all been led to believe that some metaphysical cosmic game has been played between Jacob & MIB whereas it seems Jacob was just given a magic potion by the woman who killed his mother and now he, apparently, has super powers.

Explain why Jacob can leave the island and MIB can't. Explain WTF the island is. Explain who that woman is. Explain the magic potion. Explain the light. Explain the Others. Explain the Other Others. Explain Halpert. Explain MIB. Explain why Dharma existed. Explain the stupid wheel at the bottom of that well. Explain how I managed to waste the last 5 yrs worth of Tuesday nights.

Desire to use men? That would be MIB and Jacob. No difference. Both are responsible for thousands of deaths.

Desire to leave the island? MIB wants to find his roots. Jacob wants to please his dead, crazy mother.

What does Jacob stand for? Not truth, justice, and the American way. Jacob is simply following mother's orders.

MIB is trying to prove his mother wrong and leave the island. Jacob is trying to prove his mother right and prevent MIB from leaving the island. There is no good or evil here. NONE.

It is simply two brothers using other humans as game pieces to prove the other wrong. And MIB has more altruistic goals. Jacob has no original thought. MIB is someone we can tell our children that they should grow up to be like.

Didn't you hear the b!tch in the beginning? "Relax...every question I answer will only lead to more questions." I think that was the writers taking at jab at us peoples.

oh boy

I didn't get into whose goal is more altruistic. I'm just saying MIB isn't the "good guy." There is a redeeming quality that his dead mother showed him the truth which led him to want to leave the island. It's not quite over yet

Some of those questions have been answered, to be fair.

Sigh. A couple of points. MIB did leave the island (Christian to Jack at the hospital at the flashforward, Christian to Michael on the freighter, Libby to Michael in hospital)

Island is...dunno

The woman..dunno

The magic potion...dunno

The light...negatively charged antimatter, a special element most likely not currently found on Earth. The basis for the electromagnetism.

Others were people that Richard founded, to help Jacob since his strategy to defeat MIB was never going to work.

Other Others were....dunno.

Halpert...arrived on island by accident, caught in brother tug of war, hapless assistant to faggut Jacob...

MIB...dunno. Dabblammit. Can't even get his name.

Dharma found evidence of island and negatively charged matter, and predicted location of island. Found by Hanso, whose relative was captain of Black Rock.

Wheel...constructed by MIB. To leave island. How did he figure it out?...dunno.

I'll simply say that it hasn't always been broadcast on Tuesdays.

I want to applaud you, but I'm drinking, and I just want to stay mellow.

Great. Jacob allows Others to be brought to the island, and allows his brother to kill them. Until Richard comes along. And then allows Richard and the Others to purge the military. And purge Dharma. And try to purge the Losties. And they killed off most of the Tailies.

Um, who is saying their mother was wrong? And why does someone care so much about a crazy broads' opinion. Get in a rowboat with MIB and just leave. You can't possibly believe anything that crazy woman said.

what I can't possibly believe is why any of them ever listened to what the unseen jacob told them or why the losties came back to the island or why any of them the last few episodes were doing anything flocke was saying (including the others who were following him after the temple)

 Like most of you, i don't really know what to think. The whole cave thing was really lame until we saw MIB creating the donkey wheel that allows people to leave the island. We still don't know exactly what it is, except that Jacob is there to protect it, one of the candidates is his replacement to protect it. It turned MIB into.....MIB. Basically we were explained how things happened, but not why.

I mean, who was the crazy lady? Obviously she was someone significant, and we won't see her again.

I will re-watch it, but it was a definite disappointment as of now. Again, like philly, i put this episode on a pedestal and was expecting a lot more. I mean, obviously Jacob leaves the island frequently, knows a lot more than what was shown, and so on. MIB is BAD. He was good when he was a human. That was the only thing i liked about this episode; we found out who the bodies were, and i thought that was cool. MIB died and that was his body, the thing that came out of the cave is what we now know is MIB. For SOME reason he can't leave the island or kill jacob. We were just told "Those are the rules" Yeah, that's not gonna fly.

We still have 3.5 hours to go. We had a string of good-amazing episodes going until this. I am not going to call this a bad episode, just disappointing.

We now know how MIB and Jacob came to be.

Do we know how the rules were made? No! Just like the game MIB had from the beach.

Garden of Good and Evil? That was a given.

There are many more unanswered questions, but what do I know. What more did you want answered from this? Just curious? How would you have explained things? Where did the writers go wrong? What is left out of the equation? Looks like they did a good job of explaining how and why Jacob and MIB came to be. No? We know why MIB can become Locke. He's dead! We know why Jacob is securing the island.....no?

As a casual observer, I learned a lot. Is the answer from here on out.

Well, I've had a chance to sleep on it, and get sober. After further reflection, this episode completely destroyed the memory of LOST for me. No longer is this the greatest show ever. It's still in the top 3, but it's plummeting. Congrats to X-Files, still #1.

I will cherish the first 5 seasons, and pretend that this one never happened. It's going to become a repressed memory, much like a molestation.

Are you effing sh!tting me? The last couple seasons of the X-Files WERE AWFUL. EPICALLY AWFUL. Even this lackluster final season of LOST is 100X better than the slow agonizing death of the X-Files.

I really do agree that the writers could have done so much better explaining the island than a "lucky charms" cave of bottled LIFE.

It makes sense, I suppose, but it's just so god damn hokey. They could have explained the same exact phenomenon in a number of other ways. In fact, I would have liked them to keep it veiled in more mystery. I think they caved to the pressure to prove that they had this all planned from the start (hence the totally unnecessary flashbacks to Season 1 when Jack, Kate, and Locke found "Adam and Eve.")

They could have worked the Egyptian angle and had Mother in contact with someone else, a mock divine presence, etc., and left it at that.

They could have worked the time travel, multidimensional angle and had Mother proclaim herself as the person holding everything together, like various threads on a tapestry. The thread is the light/electromagnetic energy. The tapestry is how you keep it from being chaotic - the pattern makes sense. It's order. Hence Mother (and later Jacob) are a Fates/Weaver figure who makes sure the light/energy doesn't run amok in disorder and chaos, causing alternate timelines/dimensions from crossing over into each other (such as LAX and the current plot).

But no. We get Mother Nature the Psychotic and her cave of Lucky Charms.

Effing WEAK.

The only thing that Jacob allows is free will.

I'm not so sure it's free will to be brought to the island in the first place.

I'm not so sure it's free will to be pushed inside a slaughterhouse like some chicken and told to fend for yourself versus a frustrated puff of smoke.

I'm not so sure it's free will to be made a candidate.

I'm not so sure Jacob himself made a free will choice to become guardian of the Pulp Fiction suitcase, but was practically badgered into accepting his role by a domineering mother.

The whole free will is bullsh!t in the end. MIB was murdered by his douchecanoe brother and has no free will to leave the island.

The last two seasons were uneven, but Robert Patrick and Annabeth Gish were decent in their roles, and if it were called anything other than X-Files, they might have been given more of a chance by the audience. And the episode were The Lone Gunmen died, just before the finale, was better than any LOST episode ever.

I'll take 9 season of X-Files and the first movie (between seasons 4 and 5) over 6 seasons of LOST. If you throw out this season of LOST, then it's a whole new argument.

If you recall, Jack said based on the clothing and skeletal remains, they were probably there about 40 or 50 years.

I wonder why they didn't replay that part last night.

Edjr wins.

This episode was the final exam and the writers failed. They have no clue what they are doing and never had. They were just throwing random sci fi plots against the wall the whole time.

In the end, we won't know how they moved the island, how they time traveled, why MIB can't leave (even though he has), why Jacob even gives a fock, why Locke can walk, why most woman can't have babies, who built the statue, who dropped the food, how the pot of gold made MIB a smoke monster, why he takes over others bodies.....anything! We won't learn anything.

Yeah, maybe we know a few things and even parts of some of the things I mentioned above, but none of it ties together. It's just an island that random magical stuff happens on. It has a gold cave that makes magic happen and it has to be protected because without it the world would be sad. Yippee. The last 6 years or however long this show has been on are now officially a waste.
