I am pretty sure they have a higher rate than Detroit now right? Believe or not, Detroit has been slackin in the murder game lately. I think from the second half of 2009 till now, Detroit's homicide rate isn't even in the top 10. Actually, ever since the casinos opened up, crime has dropped dramatically in Detroit

 

While looking this up, did you know the peak number of Homicides for Detroit was in 1974 with 714 The population was a lot higher then, but still, that is crazy. Then in 1991 when the population was more like now, it peaked again at 615. Now it's usually around the mid 300s.

I live in driving distance of Oakland.

 

Here's a few interesting things to know before you make a decision.

 

1. They just laid off 100 police officers and are planning on a potential of 100 more in the near future.

2. The have told Oakland residents NOT to call 911 unless their life is at risk at the time of calling. All inquiries must be made via email.

3. My buddy, who lives in a "nicer" area of Oakland (up in the hills), had his house robbed just yesterday. As of my last discussion with him this afternoon, the police still haven't shown up.

The coach had put together the perfect team for the Oakland Raiders. The only thing that was missing was a good quarterback. He had scouted all the colleges and even the Canadian and European Leagues, but he couldn't find a ringer who could ensure a Super Bowl win.

OAKLAND, Calif. – A gunman suspected of taking part in a Halloween party shooting that injured nine people in downtown Oakland is the subject of a police search, authorities said Sunday.

Officers who responded early Sunday saw several hundred people fleeing Sweet's Ballroom, where a party called the first annual Fright Fest was being held, Oakland police Lt. Rick Hassna said.

People dove for cover and began running out of the building when the shots were fired, a ballroom employee told the Oakland Tribune.

The party, which cost $15 to attend and featured DJs and live music, was advertised online as the "biggest Halloween college party in the Bay Area." Students at local colleges and universities were encouraged to attend.

The event had 16 security guards, and the ballroom employee said there had been one small fight before the shooting and that all of those people had already left the party.

A man who was wounded in the back is believed to have been the target.

Most of the victims were women who ranged in age from 18 to 29 and were hit by stray bullets, Hassna said.

None of the injuries appeared to be life threatening, Oakland police said. No one has been arrested.

You would definitely have a greater chance of living if you were deployed to Afghanistan.
