Riddlen 1 Posted March 17, 2011 Or just locally famous out west? Any midwesterners had it? Is it just another Mcdonalds/BK/Wendys that just happens to be big over there or is it different/better? Most of the other random fast food burgers I have had (rallys, sonic, checkers, Hardees/Carl Jrs) areent actually any better, just different. Culvers is better. IGotWorms 4,057 Posted March 17, 2011 Yes. It's way better than Burger King, McDonald's, etc. There are some other top-notch fast food burger chains like Five Guys. In N Out is comparable to those.
Riddlen 1 Posted March 17, 2011 Yes. It's way better than Burger King, McDonald's, etc. There are some other top-notch fast food burger chains like Five Guys. In N Out is comparable to those. I dont consider 5 guys fast food. It is WAAAAYYY better than drive thru burgers. It needs its own class. "high end" fast food with all those burrito and salad etc places where you order from a counter then eat in. I am saying driv thru I guess. Is In N Out a drive thru type place ($6 for a combo) or five guys ($11 for pop, burger, fries)?
Brad GLuckman 519 Posted March 17, 2011 I live in NY state. No In-and-Out here. I definitely think In-and-Out is the best fast food burger place, followed by Carls Jr, and 5 guys. Everyone I know from the East Coast who has had In-and-Out thinks the same thing. Not sure why they don't open one out here. If I had the $$ and some balls I would do it. It would almost be guaranteed to succeed.
Vikings4ever 541 Posted March 17, 2011 Never had In N Out. Best burgers I've had are Hardee's followed by Five Guys.

Mungwater 596 Posted March 17, 2011 Theyre opening up seven I think in Texas, all in the Dallas area. Why wouldn't they just go south a bit more to a much larger and fatter city?
lambert58 71 Posted March 17, 2011 Lived in the midwest or southwest most of my life but took over the Western Sales operation for my company.. One of the first things I had to do when I landed in California was to try an In-n-out burger. I was horribly disappointed. I thought it was horrible. I rank it right up there with the steak and shake burger. Greasy and a lot more bun than burger. The best fast food burger I have is from a chain in Oklahoma, Kansas, Southwest MO, and texas is from a a franchise called Braums. It is pretty greta. Cruzer 1,995 Posted March 17, 2011 In N Out is privately owned by a family. They have expanded slowly and just keep slowly moving out from where they originated, So. Cal. I'm hoping they open one in Denver before I die. The story of this chain is quite remarkable. Heirs have died from excessive partying and all kinds of stuff........... Supposedly N-Out's philisophy was to always serve fresh ingredients, never use frozen meats, and never have a store open further than 500 miles from the main distribution center. They are coming to the Dallas/FTW area on the heels of a new distribution center being built here. One is actually going up less than 5 miles from the office........ I've never had one, but looking at them - they look very greasy and quite frankly messy. Maybe that's the charm of it all - will definitely give it a try. You should try a Tommy's burger with Chili if you want greasy/messy. In-n-Out is quite good. One of the things I miss from So. Cal. for sure. Note that they have a secret menu in addition to the limited menu you see at the restaurant: http://www.badmouth.net/in-n-outs-secret-menu/

Cal. for sure. Note that they have a secret menu in addition to the limited menu you see at the restaurant: http://www.badmouth.net/in-n-outs-secret-menu/ Animal Fries FTW! Like others have mentioned... I'd compare In N' Out more to a 5 Guys or The Habit, than a McD or Wendy. When I really want a good burger I go to The Counter. They do the whole gourmet burger thing and have a full bar. I live a block from an In N' Out and don't eat there more than once or twice a year. Mostly because the line is always a mile long, but also because I've been eating there for 30+ years. Definitely a Cali tradition that any visitor should check out though! RicemanX 20 Posted March 17, 2011 Yea, I would have to say In N Out is the best fast food burger I've ever had. But it is still fast food. Nothing too special.
redtodd 7 Posted March 17, 2011 I think it is a good burger, but a little overrated. But then again, it was way better than McD's, Burger King and Wendy's. For fast food, it is really good but it is nothing compared to a burger a non-fast food place (which people make it out to be at times).
naomi 356 Posted March 18, 2011 I think it is a good burger, but a little overrated. But then again, it was way better than McD's, Burger King and Wendy's. Co-sign. Sometimes it really hits the spot when I'm hungry. People outside of CA probably aren't familiar with California's Gold but Huell Howser did an entire episode on In-N-Out. They're big on treating their employees well. The history was cool. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-5QG37Ekm9c
IAMWood 6 Posted March 18, 2011 Big fan of In n Out. Burgers are good, fries are good. Business concept is good. Fair priced. Employees like to work there and are compensated well for high schoolers.

BiPolarBear 483 Posted March 18, 2011 I walked into my local N&Out and said I wanted fries...The guy behind the counter slammed a potato thru the slicer and said "There they are, will cook 'em next". I get my burgers "Animalized" (with grilled onions). It's as good as it gets, friends. No N&Out where I am now in Texas. There is a Five Guys in Southlake, which is good. I give N&Out the nod for being better.
The Moz 69 Posted March 18, 2011 I remember in High School when I lived in Vegas a million years ago ( I moved [started college] like 5 months after the MGM opened ) - In n Out had just opened a place on Sahara I think. We had heard the stories from folks in Cali that it was so great ... we got a bunch brought them home an it really wasn't anything special. Maybe it was better I don't know but with all the hype around it it was a let down. Best burgers are still the ones where you buy at a meat store and make on your grill. Giants Fan 85 Posted March 18, 2011 Screw fast food burgers. In NY get a burger from Jackson Hole. HTH Corner Bistro If you have never had a Bistro Burger .... you have never had the best in NY. Voted time and time again .... best burger in Manhattan, Voice .... Time Out NY, etc. To be fair I've never had the burger at The Olde Homestead, even though I used to live around the corner. It's like $50 ... so you can't even put it in the same category as a $10 burger and fries. In N Out .... it used to be cool to change the bumper stickers, cut the B and the R off the BURGER and it says "In-N-Out urge". They are better than McDonalds or Burger King .... but that's not saying much. Hardees ... I agree is about on the same level. Arby's is better, but more expensive. I haven't been to a Carl's Jr or a Sonic in a long time ... so I can't say where they rank. In Arizona we have Jack in the Box and I will always love their grilled sourdough burger. It is the ultimate, drunk off your ass with the munchies food. 2 "tacos" for 99 cents .... they are the grossest things ever, but super cheap ..... you can spend 3 extra bucks and bring back 6 tacos for your broke friends, or throw them at pedestrians that get in your way on the way home. Sourdough burger .... and curly fries. That's what you want. In Seattle it's D!cks. I used to live near the Lower Queen Anne D!cks and you get what you pay for there ... want Mustard? 5 cents. It's no frills. It's hot and it's cheap and they do a lot for the local community. Near that same D!ck's is a Kidd Valley .... never, ever seen one anywhere else. A burger and fries there is like $9 and I never bought one .... because I knew I could go to Dicks, get 2 burgers and a shake for under $5.

Giants Fan 85 Posted March 18, 2011 Jackson Hole .... Upper East Side? 3rd Ave? Think I have been there, not sure I ever had their burger. Is it under $10? You've had a Bistro Burger and you are saying it's better? I mean .... a "Recession Special" at Grey's Papaya is just a bunch of sugar and crap .... but that's the best couple hot dogs, at that price .... anywhere in the City. Right at 6th Ave and 8th Street. Best hot dogs I have ever had at that price. I get one with Mustard a kraut and one with the barbequed onions. And a papaya drink. Way better than Nathan's. shotsup 832 Posted March 18, 2011 4 different locations and most under 10 bucks except for certain deluxe platters. 3Rd Ave 2Nd Ave Astoria Bayside Had it more then once and not a CB fan. (not BAD just not me fav.)
Giants Fan 85 Posted March 18, 2011 If it's the place I am thinking off, it was a real kinda young wall street crowd on the Upper East Side .... I went there a few times to meet young, drunk, rich girls .... but I spent as much time as possible Downtown when I lived in NYC. Was more my scene (also where I lived). The Bistro Burger to me .... maybe it's nostalgic for me, I went there back in the 80's .... it's the best burger in the city, to me .... and a lot of people agree. You want a pastrami sandwich, you go to Katz's .... You want pizza you go to John's ... you want a burger? Corner Bistro ... and you never have to go North of 14th street.
shotsup 832 Posted March 18, 2011 you never go North of 14th street. But you went 2,000 + miles West. Go figure. done with you. HTH NYC is my town NOT yours. Fvck off.

Giants Fan 85 Posted March 18, 2011 Jeremy Sisto (Law and Order) subletted my Mom's apartment in the West Village, which she has had since 1981. I used to see John Stewart all the time. He musta lived on 12th street too. Lotta celebrities in that neighborhood but people treat them like normal people ..... because nobody owns New York City. Everybody is a nobody in New York .... even Donald Trump doesn't own New York. It's too big for any 1 person. I remember one time at some upper East Side bar and some punk kid was all, "Do you know who I am?" I am sure he was from some wealthy family because his friends were looking all serious .... and I was just, "I don't give a fück who you are. Do you know who I am?" Because I am the family genealogist and I know more than anyone about how long we have been here. I am related to Poe and Emerson. And many other great Americans. My great-great-great granparent's headstones in Vermont: http://img52.imagesh...s/i/groton.jpg/ We've been here in America since before it was America. So, you'll hafta forgive me if I get defensive when someone says "I own this city" because I actually have ancestors that fought for control of New York City. And on my Mom's side is the Poe family. Everyone knows Edgar Allen. But also, Adam Poe was actually a famous Indian fighter ... made it safe for your pansy ass family to come across the pond and eventually go all the way to California if you wanted. Adam Poe kills the Indian Bigfoot
Giants Fan 85 Posted March 18, 2011 On my Dad's side ... is prolly the most bad ass mfer ... you will ever read about. He fought for the Queen from Canada ... he was a member of Rogers Rangers ... pretty much marauders ... rape and pillage type and there is a lot of confusion about exactly where he came from, the official report says he was born in New York. He became a Lt. Colonel as one of the Canadian Loyalists. Lt. Colonel Henrick Ruiter. After the war was over, he became an American citizen who owned 15,000 acres, I forgot the number ....a lot of land ... Canada just North of the Vermont border. Quebec. Now Ruiter Creek .... near Dunkin.Yeah .... some of it is still in family hands but it's mostly been sold off.

mobb_deep 920 Posted March 18, 2011 so to be clear, is In N Out drive thru? how much is a combo there? Yes, all In N Out's have drive thru. Most have nothing more than one or two benches outside to eat at. Very few have an indoor dining area. As for cost... a cheeseburger with fries and soda is about 5$ (about half what you would pay at 5 guys).

posty 2,650 Posted March 18, 2011 http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/03/17/lincecums-diet-secret-in-n-out-burger/related Tim Lincecum is beefing up his diet in an attempt to put on some weight this spring. From the sound of things, the Giants would be smart to keep Pablo Sandoval far, far away from their ace pitcher. According to John Schlegel of MLB.com, Lincecum is dining with gusto this spring, devouring fast food as if he were paid by the calorie. His expected meal after Wednesday’s start was a giant bag of In-N-Out Burger, consisting of three double-doubles, two orders of fries and a half-chocolate, half-strawberry milkshake. “That’s probably not the best form of nutrients but I’ve always kind of just eaten what I’ve wanted to and worried about it later,” Lincecum said after his fifth start of the spring. “Nothing’s affected me now, so I’ll stick to it.” Lincecum says he’s put on about 10 pounds, bringing his total to a whopping 168. I don’t see that this is much of a problem. Lincecum is working out like a madman this spring and he has been dominant. He’s always been slight, and obviously has a crazy metabolism that burns calories as soon as they go into his body. He’s doing everything he can to put on weight and his performance on the mound isn’t suffering. I had similar body – though far less athletic — when I was younger. I could eat anything, at any hour of the day, and still looked like, well, like this. That all changed when I was about Lincecum’s age (26). The metabolism slowed down, and all of a sudden those egg sandwiches at midnight started sticking around a little longer than I expected. That could happen to Lincecum eventually, but as long as he feels good, the Giants won’t be concerned. As Bruce Bochy said: “Yeah, he’s put on a few pounds, he looks good out there. He’s showing off his muscles now. I wish I could eat like that.” Amen. As Bochy, Lincecum and Theodore Donald Kerabatsos all know, those are good burgers.
