So yeah, AMAZING episode last night.

I need some learning about the white walkers.

are the dudes in the white (the leaders) some type of Warlock?

I wasn't aware there were White Walkers and undead.

Thought they would all be WW, not have armies of skeletons

I think you missed something along the way!

The WW are the leaders (mostly Craster's babies except maybe 1?) who had never been seen before and were thought to be myths (and invincible).

The re-animated dead (eyes turn blue) have to be burned (even with head lopped off).

In first scene of season 1 we saw a bunch of re-animated... and then 1 White Walker.

I think it will be released either before Christmas or about a month before next season. Like I said previously, as long as he gets it out before next season, everything will be just fine and dandy.

There are 2 days I am looking forward to in the future, and only two days; When the WOW release date is announced, and the actual date itself. I am really going to take off of work for a few days after it's released.

They have already announced that Winds of Winter won't be coming out this year. Best case is early next year, and I'll believe that when I see it.

Can the White Walkers raise anyone that has died or just killed by them?

Well, only people at that battle that were dead that weren't already dead, were by the hands of the WW and their army.

Good question though!

There are a few others who have Valyrian Steel... Tywin melted down Robert Baratheon's Ned Stark's over-sized weapon and re-forged it into 2 swords. He gave them to Jamie. One was for Joffrey but he instead gave that one to Brienne.

:ninja:

The sword Brienne has is Jaime's sword, Oathkeeper. Tywin presented Joffrey with his sword as a wedding present. He hacked Tyrion's book in half with it. I don't know that the location of Joffrey's sword is known at this point. Tommen may have it.

If the White Walkers were Craster's babies then wouldn't they still be babies?

Putting this non-spoiler, spoiler in spoilers so some of you whiny focks wont complain at the slightest of foreshadowing.

Nah, Sam told Ollie that it's ok to do what you think is right even if others wouldn't agree.

I was just wondering, because if they can raise anyone that wasn't beheaded and burned, there are many dead that could return...

Maybe we will see Ned Stark once again! He may have no head, but hey, it's something!

Maybe just his head bouncing around on a spike?

Anyone still believe that Mance is Tormund? He seemed very Mance-like in this episode.

Not a ton is known about the White Walkers Ed. They're a race that apparently basically hibernates for hundred or thousands of years. Long enough that most people thought they were a myth. They can reanimate the dead obviously. There is speculation that the dude on the dock last night was an ex Lord Commander of the Night's Watch who did the nasty with a White Walker queen and became known as the Night's King. The two of them eventually made much of the Night's Watch their slaves.

Ohh, thank you! That helps some.

do you suppose Dragon fire would kill them? I don't see that's how this is going, but I'd be curious to know

Just finished the most current episode. After watching Avengers 2 and this sh!t back to back days, I think I'm having an aneurysm in my haid. I'm sure I'll have some lame thoughts tomorrow. I'm flumoxed.

Geez. And some of you folks were down on this season. :nono:

I guess this is what happens when Game of Thrones and Walking Dead collide.

On the surface, it was one of the better episodes this season... but I can't help but be a little disappointed that they had to manufacture a battle, just to keep this season interesting. And I guess us book readers finally got the answer to our question about one particular storyline being truly dead.

What answer, not sure which storyline you are mean?

If you are referring to the switcheroo, I'd thought "IF" that was still happening it had been changed to Tormund. But I'm guessing they may have tossed that storyline.

It should be noted we know more about White Walkers and the Army of the Dead in the show than in the books. This is new territory for book readers. Abso-focking-lutely awesome. You realize how little everything else matters when you see those corpses rise from the ground.

For some reason, I remembered that Hardhome was mentioned a couple times in the book, and there was an ominous letter sent to Jon from the group he had sent there to bring back the Wildlings. I thought something would happen, but I did NOT expect this big and epic of a battle. One of the most unexpected moments in the series for me.

I yelled "OH ######! That changes the whole game!" when Jon turned that WW in a pile of snow.

This was my personal favorite episode of the entire series so far. That is because this was the first time the showrunners have gone off the book material and it showed something that was integral to the whole story. Very, very well done.

I actually thought every single scene was awesome. Everyone will talk about the battle, but there were some great character interactions. So far I approve of Tyrion and Dany.

I don't know...we know dragonstone does the same thing, great. Cool that Valarian steel does too, but that seems to be an extremely rare commodity. Don't know if that knowledge is a game-changer, if I take your meaning correctly.

How many White Walkers are there? 10? 100? 1000? Giving the best swordsmen in Westeros weapons that allow them to fight enemies that are limited in number but effectively invincible otherwise could be a huge game changer. That's assuming of course that Dany's dragons don't turn them into Fried Walkers.

Found this from another site, has a quote to the amount of Valarian Steel in Westeros. I think there must be a more than a 1000 white walkers, undead. If Mance was able to raise 100,000+ wildlings, must me there was a significant population north of the wall for the WW to turn.

“Valyrian steel blades were scarce and costly, yet thousands remained in the world, perhaps two hundred in the Seven Kingdoms alone.” It’s going to take a lot of fancy talking from Jon for those families to give up their ancestral blades, but fingers crossed! All the same, if I were the Night’s King, I wouldn’t exactly be quaking in my stylish yet affordable boots.

I agree...I think in the books that Valyrian steel was mentioned by Sam, anyway... so it's not like it's new information.

I did happen to read an article last night with an interview with Martin. He's claiming that he's rushing to get the next book out, so it may be sooner than was last expected. He also said that the show is now going it's own way, so it won't spoil the remaining books. This is now officially a clusterfock... :(

5.08 Hardhome

A somewhat unexpectedly brilliant episode. The added bonus is there are still two episodes to go for the season.

Cersei is still arrogantly and defiantly doing calisthenics with her eyebrows as she lays dormant in a filthy prison cell. She is being charged with more crimes than Justin Bieber on a weekend, including incest and the murder of Robert Baratheon. Information brought to you by Lancel. At the behest of Maester Pycell, Kevan Lanister will serve at Tommen’s Hand and wants nothing to do with her. The queen mother is reduced to sucking dirty water off the gritty cell floor when no one is around to watch. In Cersei’s defense, Nobody Expects the Sparrowish Inquisition. On second thought, I think some parallels could be drawn from Cersei and Arya this season as far as being down and out and being coaxed into confessions. Arya is being encouraged to lie while Cersei is being encouraged to confess. Arya is now moving on with her mission, while Cersei refuses to become humble and all threads of her flow chart lead to pain.

Arya/Lana has become an oyster merchant as part of her training. She is tasked with poisoning a gambler/insurance salesman that is in the business of ripping off widows with kids. Which is lame, as insurance is all about ripping off widows with kids. I’m still waiting for the commercial where Flo hits a couple of teenagers in the knees with a crowbar. Well, at least this story line is finally getting somewhere. The way they showed Arya pouring vinegar over the oysters, she will likely use this surreptitious method to complete the mission of poisoning. I can easily see it going sideways and Arya being caught in the act, leading to bad things.

Sam is getting bandaged up by Gilly as Olly peppers him with questions about trusting the wildlings and telling us for the 43rd time how his family got wiped out by them. Seriously, Olly is a pile of sh!t. Look, the world is about to go to war to avoid extinction. Boo Hoo!! My parents are dead. We get it. How much revenge do you actually want? Olly shot Ygritte last season, who is the one who shot Olly’s father with an arrow. Shouldn’t Olly be concerned that Jon Snow might want revenge on you, since you killed the love of his life. Sack up and get with the program, you lunkhead. I would love nothing more than to have the Giant sit on him and then fart on his flat body. Unfortunately, it would seem that Olly will create further chaos and likely destruction, mostly aimed at Jon Snow. Jon Snow, who certainly did not kill his parents. Revenge is not a guarantee. Ask Oberlyn. Ask Robb Stark. That kid is as sharp as a bag of wet mice.

Sansa interrogates Theon/Reek on why he betrayed her. Reek gives her the cliffnotes of his fun with Ramsay. Fortunately, Sansa finally turns an important corner and took pleasure that Reek was tortured. After all that’s happened to Theon, I have pretty much no sympathy for the character, not a smidgen. That’s a testament to some good acting and writing. The douche bag ends up tortured for a long time and is turned into a shell of himself, and in the end, I still see him as a douche bag. The key takeaway is that Sansa now knows that two of her brothers, Bran and Rickon, are alive. All you now need is for Bork to tell her that Arya is alive. Although, Arya is no longer Arya, sort of a witness protection program scenario. Roose is extremely confident in the upcoming battle with Stannis’ army. I can agree that they have the better home field advantage and are snug as a bug in a rug in Winterfell, but it’s been stated on numerous occasions that Stannis is the greatest military mind in Westeros at this time. It sucks that Stannis is getting a raw deal with the weather, but if he loses to Bolton, there is nobody left for me to root for to get the throne other than Littlefinger. Ramsay wants to lead a small operation to take on Stannis. Which is slightly concerning. If the entire season budget went into the battle of Hardhome, we don’t get the war with Botlon-Stannis afterall. Another option is to have Ramsay want to go hunt down whomever was ready to rescue Sansa with the candle signal. Light the candle, wait outside the gates, and watch who approaches. Look out Bork and Pork. For those confused, Brienne reminds me of Brock Lesnar, but she doesn’t exude Brock but more of Bork. As we recall, Podrick drunkenly feasted on a stolen ham. Hence, Bork and Pork. If you don’t like it, go pound sand.

I need to mention a continuity error that has been driving me insane. I tripped over the ottoman one to many times, I tripped over the ottoman until I lost my mind. Now that is an even more obscure reference that usual. Remember how The Dumb Ass of Dragons said the fighting pits can open, but no slaves are permitted to fight. Well, what the fock was up with last week, when both Jorah and Tyrion, were clearly sold by slavers, bought by slavers, and were chained up like slaves. Then Jorah fought before TDAOD as….a slave!! What is going on here? Did TDAOD forget her own rules so quickly? Anyway, Tyrion and Dumb Ass have a long chat, fairly well flowing, fairly interesting. Maybe the first time Tyrion has been interesting all season long. Jorah is exiled again. FACE!! Tyrion and TDAOD exchange philosophy about ruling, Tyrion is to be an adviser, and for the 3rd time this season, Tyrion is denied wine in a quasi-intervention (Varys, Jorah, TDAOD). How much wine can The Dink possibly drink? It’s not that big of a big deal. If somebody was going to take my rum away, I’d be more p!ssed than a chained up dragon. Well, since she has finally made a couple of decent decisions, I will consider not calling her The Dumb Ass of Dragons. Consider it. But as we all saw, Jorah is selling himself into slavery to fight in front of TDAOD. But if I see Jorah actually fight again in front of her as a slave, then I’m putting that branding iron on her forehead even if she saves this world. Adding Tyrion into the mix with TDAOD is a good start. But they need Varys to show up soon so that he can get the information of the White Walker attack and see how this molds the mindsets of Dumb Ass and Dink.

Using the sailing vessels of Stannis, Jon Snow, Big Ginger, some Night’s Watch, and some wildlings reach Hardhome, the stronghold of the wildlings. Tormund clubs the fock out of the Lord of Bones. Look Papa Shango, I get you need a cool pro wrestling gimmick. But wearing a ram’s head or whatever on top of your head limits your vision. Much to my dread, a long, drawn out meeting of factions and elders breaks out. Snooze time. The Dumb Ass of the Watch hands a sack full of dragon glass to the wildlings. Yeah, that will end well and for sure not get lost. Some deals are cut, some cut bait and walk away. OK. Let me see if I have this straight. The White Walkers were the zombies on horses at the top of the cliffs. Their minions of the undead are called wights, which are mostly people who died and were reanimated into blue eyed people killers. I really didn’t see them feasting on the flesh of the fallen. The wights come pouring down the cliffs outside of Hardhome’s walls with fury of an avalanche. It was a truly epic supernatural battle. The wights pouring over the walls like insects was very much like the zombies in the tragically awful dreck of the World War Z movie. I didn’t quite understand why the woman wilding didn’t want to attack the wight children, as they were more than obliged to clobber her to death. OK, I will now acknowledge him as Jon Snow again, as he has overcome the DAOTW dragon glass gaffe. As Jon Snow clashed with the White Walker that prevented him from retrieving the dragon glass, you have the titular snapshot of the entire series theme. The Valyrian steel of Jon Snow’s sword clashed with the weapon of the White Walker. As the sound rang out, it was emblematic of a Song of Fire and Ice. To the best of my knowledge, there are only a couple known Valyrian steel swords out there. After death, the sword of Ned Stark was melted down, it was recast as two swords. One given to Jaime who regifted to Bork. One sword was given to Joffrey, and it is most likely in Tommen’s possession. To note, the ruins of Valyria that is populated by stone men with greyscale was the place where Valyrian steel was crafted. I can’t imagine there being any swords left there, as the stone men would have used them to attack Jorah and Tyrion. Jon Snow has a sword, obviously, as it was given to him by Jeor Mormont, Jorah’s father. So, aside from dragon glass, a Valyrian steel sword can kill White Walkers. Good info to have. After a spirited fight, Hardhome is overrun and full retreat is in place for the living. I’m still trying to figure out how the giant wilding fits in, as he is too big for a boat, and he sure as fock not going to walk to the Wall in slushy water that would be over his neck. The apparent leader of the undead army has a staring contest with the fleeing Jon Snow. Then raises all the fallen fighters, turns them into wights, including the Night’s Watch and Wildlings that were recently killed. Olly don’t have a fock to give. One final question, since the new wights are wearing the same fatigues as the living people, how hard will it be to fight on a battle field with the enemy when the only clue you have if they are friend or foe is the color of their eyes?
