Game of Thrones (no spoilers)

Recommended Posts

So the scene between Brienne, Biter and Rorge became what we saw with the Hound and Arya. Interesting...

I'm loving the guy they cast for Oberyn. He couldn't be more perfect.

Did they really say there are only 3 episodes left? :shocking: It's going to be a hell of a ride to the end.

Apparently book readers are upset about "Only Cat" being changed to "Your sister"

I barely noticed the change, and this episode followed the books really closely. I am pretty sure the last chapter in book 3 was Lysa base-jumping, so they really powered through that storyline.

I have no clue what's going to happen at the wall before the season is done, hopefully we see mammoths and giants though.

I felt they rushed the whole Daario-Dany thing. I mean, everyone knew that was coming, but have barely seen the new Daario and now he's banging Khal Drogo's widow. In the books Daario is an awesome character and you kinda want it to happen, where in the show I was thinking "Whyyyy".

Hard to remember the order of chapters sometimes. But I definitely remembered the last chapter of book 3 was the big reveal that Lysa killed her own husband at Littlefinger's request and then he tossed her out the moon window. And that was an "oh yeah!" moment because Jon Arryn's death to begin the whole series was so long ago and unknowingly still an unsolved mystery.

Well, maybe one last thing happened at the end... here's to hoping we get the Epilogue.

According to IMDB, that character is not listed as in a 2014 episode, but we shall see!

Damn, book 3 was awesome.

The Red Viper is awesome, and yeah just a great scene with him and Tyrion. Great work by Dinklage when Oberyn was telling him the story about Cersei. I loved how they just stayed on his face through the whole thing.

The scene with Tyrion and Bronn was excellent as well. Very good episode all the way around.

Yup, awesome episode.

Sh!t is moving so quick now, especially with the Eyrie.

Also, the Oberyn / Tyrion scene might be my favorite of the entire series. Powerful stuff there.

Agreed. It really brought out the humanity of both Oberyn and Tyrion, and laid it in stark contrast to Cersei's cold, viscous inhumanity. Just a fantastic exposition of three pivotal characters all in one scene.

my favorite part was when Tyrion said to Jaime -

you're the golden son, you could kill a king, lose a hand, fock your own sister, you'll always be the golden son.

IF Jaime had decided to fight for Tyrion, what would Cersei have done?

Just watched the jaime/tyrion scene and the tyrion/oberyn scene.

when Tyrion starts to well up and smile, it brings me to tears as well.

So focking good.

Anybody else hear a little Inigo Montoya in the Red Viper's accent?

I can't wait for the part where he says "Hello, my name is Oberyn Martell, you killed my sister's children and then raped her with their blood still on your hands before killing her too. Prepare to die."

At this point I think she'd be fine with having them both out of the picture.

How long does Tyrion have to name a champion?

Seems as if the hound might be a good choice

there were so many great lines in that episode.

where do I find all these quotes by episode???

Mockingbird made it very clear that the dysfunction that permeates the ruling class of Westeros is generational and repeating.

From scene to scene we watched and heard about adults who were wronged and scarred as children only to grown up to be adults that wrong and scar the next generation.

From the Lannisters long ago to the Joffrey's of today...

From the Cleganes as kids to the murderers they are today...

And even Dany, the purest of the "adults" is tainted by her childhood and makes somewhat unwise decisions...

It's part of what's so intriguing about Arya and Sansa - most of the "wrongs and scars" have been done in the past/off-screen - with the Stark kids, we get to witness it first hand and we somehow hope that it will be different for them, that they will turn out OK despite all the socio/psycho examples we know of that prove there's no coming out of this without becoming a dysfunctional continuation of it.

Arya is clearly "dysfunctional" but we like where it's going - in any other context a vengeful, murderous 11 year old girl would be a very sad story...

Sansa is the wildcard - could she be poised for incredible power at Littlefinger's side and as the Queen of the North and Vale? And if given that power, would the emotionless Sansa finally snap and "Robin-slap" the whole focking realm? She has enough pent up to be worse than Cersei and who could blame her?

Hands down, the best show on Television. I wish we didn't have to wait 2 weeks for the next episode (no new one on Memorial Day Weekend??? I think)

So what was with the storyline of Jaime's top-secret training with Bronn if it turns out Jaime can't fight worth a damn regardless? Seems kinda odd

it enriches the story in a few ways (I think)

1. lets us know just how far Jamie has fallen (as a swordsman) and how much he'll work to get it back

2. Set up some suspense over who would champion Tyrion

3 May set up a future showdown with Jaimie and Bronn, now that Bronn is in "Cercei's camp"

4. And IF Jaimie ever faces him and beats him, he's Rocky to Bronn's Appollo Creed

:dunno: all speculation though.

I like his "training"

You're probably right. Story lines in GoT rarely have a quick payoff. That's why the Eyrie storyline is so remarkable. Stuff has happened there in six episodes that would normally take two or three seasons.

I approve of them quickly running through that storyline, it would have got boring and they kept a slow storyline(until the end) entertaining by streamlining it.

The Wall is going sooooooooo slow and I think it's because they don't want too much going on at once. I think now that the climax of the Sansa is over we will see a lot of action at The Wall, along with all the Kings Landing drama.

Dany's storyline sucks and will continue to suck until probably towards the end of next season.

I'd rather have the Red Viper. They haven't really gone over it in the show, but he is definitely one of the top warriors in Westeros. The Hound is bigger and stronger but Oberyn is faster and more clever.

I've been wondering a lot...

We all know that Martin can take a character we despise, and humanize them to the point that we either A: can relate to them, or B: feel sympathy for them. Sometimes we even feel ourselves liking them.

But... Do we think it's possible for him to take a character that is universally loved, and turn them into someone we loathe?

Dany for instance... I know we're all speculating that her and her dragons will be the saviors of Westeros, but what if they're not? What if they end up wreaking havoc across the land? What if dragons were ultimately responsible for the doom of Valaryia, and Westeros falls to a similar fate? Could we turn on Dany and her dragons?

Hmmm...

Is she really universally loved? I mean yeah, she's freed the slaves and all that. And she's hot. BUT she is still a Targareyen and they've been weird little incest freaks for the most part. Plus she is far too enamored with having dudes chase her like some stupid young diva.

I mean, I'd say she falls on the "good" side but she isn't quite John Snow or the Half-Man.

Other than the Starks, what family from GOT isn't incest freaks?

This bring ups a good question. Has anyone ever looked in George RR Martin's basement or his back yard?

Well I still disagree with the universally loved label for her, but yes I could see that happening with Dany. Sansa Stark as well, though again I'd say she is a "good" character right now but not really loved since she's so damn helpless.

I have a feeling that we will start seeing this in WOW. We also start to like Mellisandre more and more and it's starting now in the show. I do see signs that a couple of "good" characters we think are saviors will end up becoming the villains.

I think the only characters that will stay where they are, as far as good/evil or whatever, are the ones who are in the middle. Like Stannis, I don't really think he is good or evil, he just does what he thinks is right. Perhaps he ends up the true hero by the end?

I can certainly see this with Sansa.

Remember in Season 1, Sansa wasn't very likable - it was just bratty kid stuff, but she was no favorite - I'd argue that she isn't even likable now, just a sympathetic figure. Sansa has been through a lot and even though she was a bratty kid, she didn't deserve the torment she's faced.

And now Littlefinger is in the mix, on her side... does Sansa embrace it? I mentioned earlier that she could easily become worse than Cercei - unlike Cercei, we've witnessed Sansa's awful childhood.

I'm just wondering if it would be as easy to take a character that is loved and turn us, as it seems to be of the reverse.

I was racking my brain trying to think of any characters that have been like this. Walter White was the first on to come to mind. I know some people started to see him as a "bad" guy, but for me... despite it all- I have to admit, I was still rooting for him, in the end.

Maybe that's just human nature. We like to find the good in people-even when they've been bad. Or can relate more to their flaws, because we ourselves are flawed. But for some reason, it seems harder to go (at least for me) from liking someone to despising them.

I only brought it up, because as a writer, I think if anyone can pull it off, it would be Martin.

I rooted for Buffalo Bill in Silence of the Lambs.

pissed he never finished his skin suit.

No but seriously, people rooted for Hannibal, how focked up is that?

I just watched last weeks episode again, and again, I was floored by the scene between Bronn and Tyrion. Those two play perfectly again each other.

The scene that really got me though, was the scene between the Viper and Tyrion. That was two heavyweights plying their craft perfectly. I could watch a whole episode that just showed Tyrion in his cell interacting with visitors/jailers/accusers.

 I can see this too. We are pretty close to the end of her storyline in the show(to where we are at the end of the last book), though I am sure they will add quite a bit of filler ala Bran. A popular theory is that Sansa ends up Little Fingering Little Finger himself, basically using him to get what she wants then focking him over. We are just starting to see Sansa's transformation, and again it only goes a bit further in the books to this point, but she is just starting to stop being the victim. Honestly, if you believe that character arcs will end up balancing out, Sansa will end up becoming the biggest villain as she has been probably the biggest victim to this point.

Stannis as the "good guy" at the end is quite possible, IMO. It would be a full-circle kind of thing, where the guy who should've rightfully had the Iron Throne in the first place ends up getting it in a very roundabout fashion. Robert Baratheon isn't really talked of like he was a great leader but on the other hand he presided over a period of relative peace.

The throne REALLY is Stannis's by law. Even though Dany has a strong argument being the only heir left to Aerys II Targaryen, but I am pretty sure once the crown is officially handed over to House Baratheon that means all his heirs lose their inheritance to the throne. I think, technically speaking, Dany SHOULD be given Dragonstone back by law. Obviously none of this really matters, but my point, and yours I think, is Stannis SHOULD be on the throne, as Eddard Stark said before he died.
