PATSSOX 22 Posted September 7, 2011 The latest on Colts QB Peyton Manning. Jake Query, a radio host on WNDE in Indianapolis is reporting that sources are telling him that Peyton Manning is out for the year. Query posted this on his twitter feed today: "What I (Query) said: A source I consider reliable told me he is out for the season. I do believe that the actual diagnosis is still being determined" Query then followed that with: "I (Query) was also told the 3rd procedure has taken place, either Sun or Monday." Understand that this is not official by any stretch. This is a radio host in Indianapolis (that I don't know much about) saying this is what his sources are telling him. It certainly fits with the worse case scenarios we've been envisioning but it should be stressed that we have no facts or words from the Colts to back this up. It's also worth noting that the Colts and Bill Polian are going to be the absolute last people on earth to tell us this. My gut feel is that I'd positively let someone else take the chance on Manning at just about any price right now. I know some are saying now is the time to scoop him up for pennies. I'm not one of those guys. This is perhaps not related in any way shape or form, but I think it's worth understanding that Peyton's older brother, Cooper, quit football after it was discovered he had a congenital spine issue. I'm NOT saying Peyton has the same issue. But I am saying Cooper's issue is something he thinks about as he plans his future. It would be impossible for it not to be considered for him. Older (but still relevant) article here: http://www.sptimes.com/2004/11/07/Sports/The_other_Manning.shtml Thanks to Footballguy Andy Binder for the headsup on this news. Here is what is on CBS.com Peyton Manning, QB INDNews: WDNE-AM in Indianapolis is reporting that Colts QB Peyton Manning has undergone another surgical procedure on his neck and is in danger of missing the season. This is the second radio report from Indianapolis in less than a week that has suggested that Manning will not play in 2011. Manning has been ruled out for Week 1 at Houston already as he has not rehabbed quickly enough from neck surgery in May. "It will be tough not to be out there playing for the organization and our fans," Manning said regarding missing Week 1, per ESPN. "I simply am not healthy enough to play." Analysis: As we've been saying for days, Fantasy owners should have a backup plan in place for Manning. For Week 1, we like Colt McCoy (vs. Cincinnati), Kevin Kolb (vs. Carolina), Kyle Orton (vs. Oakland) and of course Collins (at Houston). Potential long-term replacements for Manning include Donovan McNabb, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Chad Henne, Matt Hasselbeck and naturally Collins. None of these quarterbacks come close to Manning in talent but they'll actually play whereas Manning might not. We'll keep you posted. -cbssports.com

PATSSOX 22 Posted September 7, 2011 I was actually in middle of starting to ask the over/under on how many games Manning would play this year when got that email. Thought that news was just a little more important. Ive got freakin Addai in 2 leagues damn it. Well one good thing is they may have to lean on him but he can never stay healthy so hope he starts out good and can pawn him off.

Well one good thing is they may have to lean on him but he can never stay healthy so hope he starts out good and can pawn him off. This can't be good for Addai. He gets his points from scoring TD and grinding the clock when they are leading. TD scoring will be down. Clock grinding might not be necessary anymore. By mid season if Manning is still not back, my guess is Delone Carter will get some carries.

Kent 228 Posted September 7, 2011 We have a rule where unless they put a player on IR or the PUP list, you can't make a pickup until after the first week's waiver order is set. The Manning owner has nobody hurt...well, Manning. I have Chris Ivory. Just put in for Collins. The crime is, they won't put Manning on the PUP list because he's Peyton Manning. The question is, what is Collins worth in a trade and or is he even worth keeping to start some weeks.
mzf5c5 0 Posted September 7, 2011 he does if he's Peyton Manning. No he doesn't, He makes them a very good team, but facts are facts, if you don't think they win a game without him, ever, you know NOTHING about football. When Manning doesn't play, the Colts lose. Hell, didn't they take Manning out in the 4th quarter of one game they were winning big, and then have to put Manning back in near the end because they were so awful. What are you talking about? I am pretty sure the Colts just won a preseason game, they did it without Manning.

mzf5c5 0 Posted September 7, 2011 No reason to be bitter Indy fan. There's a reason Peyton deserves the MVP every year. If this is true we shall see how much/little I know about football. Peyton made that OL look good. Peyton made those receivers and RB's look good. Peyton ran the offense and the rest of them were conditioned to respond to him. And the defense is nothing special at all. We shall see what kind of Peyton impression Kerry can do. So Mathis and Freeney are nothing? Really? Peyton could make Roy Williams look like a top 5 WR, I don't doubt that. Heck, if I could catch, I could be a rock star. I am not bitter, I just found your comment stupid. I don't know what is going on, as a Colts fan, you learn that they don't release much. I am hopefull he plays still this year. If not, I would rather him heal and come back strong next year. I have more faith in Collins than I do Painter and I feel Colins gives us a better chance to play. Indy still has a lot of talent on the team and they can win games. They do not become the worst team in the NFL, they have made the playoffs the last 9 years and did it as a team. Ask Manning, he will tell you.

mzf5c5 0 Posted September 7, 2011 The OC in Indy is actually going to have to draw up and call plays this year? Who is the OC in Indy? The OC has always called in plays, 3 of them, Manning got to choose what he thought was best for the defense he saw. Granted, we won't have a lot of fun watching Manning at the line of scrimmage, but if Collins can do anything like he did the one year in Tenn, we have a shot. Dude, you've got to step away from the keyboard because your responses are way too emotionally charged right now. Why? I still think we can win the division? Unlike you, who is most likely a Pats fan, I don't think my team will fall down, when they lose their starting QB like most Pats did.

You said they couldn't win without Manning, they did. Granted, this is the first time in 13 years that we won't have Manning under center, so now the other 52 guys on the team need to step up for him and win this Sunday. I think the country is about to find out who Delone Carter is... Addai has to still get hurt, but I am glad to see him as the second back. I liked what I saw in the preseason. Manning effects every player on the team. Manning is the Colts. You're doomed! This has been an issue the last few years actually, even with Manning, teams were all doing anything to keep him off the field. So we are used to seeing a lot of defense. New year, some new players, lets see them play and maybe our defense does something. I'm a Packer fan and I'd piss my pants if Rodgers went down. Maybe I'm more of a realist and your more of a fanatic. I am willing to give our players the chance to step up and make it happen. I have some faith in Collins, he has some good guys around him. They do not become the worst team in the NFL, they have made the playoffs the last 9 years and did it as a team. Ask Manning, he will tell you. Mathis and Freeney are great edge rushers. However since indy can't put up 30+ points per game, the undersized speedy defense becomes a liability. Teams won't be playing indy from behind 10 minutes into the game anymore. They'll be grinding down that undersized d. The problem is, you built your whole team around one guy. Your RB's are great pass catchers and blockers. They aren't guys who make yards between the tackles unless it's draw play. Even the defensive philosophy is predicated on Manning being awesome every game, which he normally is. You've invested in players on both sides of the ball to compliment Manning's game. I seriously think they go from top 10 NFL team to bottom 10 without him. MDC 7,419 Posted September 7, 2011 Colts aren't the worst team in the league without Manning, but it's hard to say they're much better than TEN or JAX without him, and the Texans are looking at a very clear path to the division crown. Indy still has some talent but the OL is mediocre, there's no running game and the D is sub-average. It would be a minor miracle if they go .500 without him. Sad day for the NFL.
