What should I name my son?

Recommended Posts

Wife and I have decided that Junior will be called Peter after my father, but my dad's name is actually Pierre. So we're wavering on Peter or Pierre as the "official" name. If we name him Pierre he can go by Pete, Peter, Pierre ... options. My stepdaughter is afraid he'll get beat up in the schoolyard with that name though. I tried to tell her he'll probably get beat up because his dad's a secretary, but she's not hearing it.

Thoughts? :dunno:

What are you thinking about for a middle name? I always liked the nickname PJ so if there is a J name you like...

For my son we settled on James for a first name...I always liked the nick name JD so he got stuck with James Daniel.

Serious answer: we had chosen Peter for our second child if it was a boy, but it ended up being a girl. It's a strong, classic name, the kind I think you should stick with for boys.

Also, the idea of naming after the grandparent is nice. FWIW, we did that with the middle names, which IMO is a nice gesture but leaves the kid with his own identity. Just a thought.

Nick! Nick's your buddy! Nick's the kind of guy who doesn't mind if you puke in his car.

I agree with the rationale. You can post about playing with your Peter

I probably should've made it clear that the name is either Peter or Pierre.

Middle name Michael, btw.

Pierre is too faggoty, unless you've got some serious French heritage you are trying to pay homage to. In which case it is too French. HTH

Peter is another word for d!ck.

Since you are the father, it seems appropriate

My dad was born in France and his name is Pierre. He goes by Pete but just recently told me in hindsight he wished he'd gone by Pierre.

I figure if we name junior Pierre, we call him "Pete" and when he's older he's got options. If we name him Peter he can't go by Pierre later in life.

I'm not a fan of nicknames which stray too far from the original name. First day of school, the teacher will say "Pierre?" He'll say, "I go by Pete", so the other kids will know anyway. Also, everyone who knows him as Pete will presume it is short for Peter, which will cause him a lot of grief later in life. JMO.

MDC being French is the most obvious thing ever.

Will you lotion your Peter when skin gets dry?

Will you clean your Peter after dirty play?

Will you scratch your Peter when there is an itch?

And you are worried he'll wish he had the option of calling himself Pierre later on in life

PETER - imagine how many years of school he's going to have to deal with kids teasing him about his name. It's horrible I tell you - HORRIBLE. He's going to hate you for it.

Take it from a guy named JOC - it sucks until you're older. Now I like it. Not so much from 1st grade through those first couple of years at college though. :dunno:

No matter what name you give him, kids will find a way to tease him about it. That is just how kids are.

Unless your father is really attached to Pierre, I would think that calling him Peter would be more of a honor since that is what your father is known by.

Just get ready for when the kids call him Peter, Peter pumpkin-eater or they say, "I just whacked Peter", etc.
