Voltaire 5,317 Posted April 1, 2014 Why do some need extra time to vote? Voting lines can be really long in precincts with a lot of people.
BunnysBastatrds 2,450 Posted April 1, 2014 Top of the head, travelling, serving in the military, hospital stays, etc. So if voting is important to you , you do a write in ballot? What bothers me the most about the "more time and no ID" crowd is, the people they are fighting for aren't as interested in voting as they would like them to. I guranfawkingtee that they would be silent on the issue if the parties were reversed. The dems would be fighting the same way the repubs are. Redistrecting county and state zones are the bigger problem in my opinion. Every ten years after the census voting precincts go bluer or redder expanding each counties political influence and makeup. State by state, each voting district becomes more and more partisan. That's not good for either party. But the biggest problem we have is not voting laws. That's a distraction. They are the problem and they know it. And the only way to fix any of this sh!t is term limits. Not more voting laws aimed at giving one side an advantage over the other. Sho Nuff 720 Posted April 1, 2014 Why do some need extra time to vote? A whole multitude of reasons exist to make voting even more convenient. Jobs, kids, vacations.... What actual reasons are there to limit the amount of time? By actual, I don't mean claiming to eliminate fraud but giving no actual reason or manner in which limiting days and hours will prevent such thing. So again, why are they being limited? Its ok to admit that its because the right sees that as an advantage.

Im sure there are some against the ID that may be for it if it were the other party. THing is...you keep again bringing up the ID thing when most of what people are talking about is the hours. Why is that? BTW...Id also guarantee you that people like you, phurfur, drobs, and googlypilot would be all for more time at the polls if the right were proposing it. Redistricting is done for the exact same reasons that people are pushing this...because by the statistics, it gives their side an advantage.
Reality 3,121 Posted April 1, 2014 Requiring ID's will clean up most of the issues I have with the absurd amount of early voting days some of these states have.

Sho Nuff 720 Posted April 1, 2014 Yea because election day falls right smack dab in the middle of vacation season There are seasons for vacation? You realize some people vacation about any time. Sure...it may be poor planning...it may be when everyone involved can take the break from work. Its a possible reason...that you have nothing else to add is not surprising at all. The Moz 69 Posted April 1, 2014 To vote - IMO Everyone needs an voters card - and to get one you need to be able to do these things 1. Provide a valid SS number 2. You speak English (no English - no vote) 3. have not been receiving financial assistance from Gov't for more than 3 years ( if you have been - then no vote -- since "more whites are on this anyway it's hardly racist) 4. Voter ID card is scanned when you vote so each person can only vote once 5. Have some kind of ID when you go to the polls - a DL, S-ID, work ID , Library card - something to show you are the same person as on your Voters card which you are applying for

JT 137 Posted April 1, 2014 Why do some need extra time to vote? Reading the OP, this has nothing to do with extra time. It's about some states reducing the time that has previously been available. As with any legislation, my first question is "How does this benefit 'We, the people'?" If it doesn't pass that test, it's bad legislation driven by the wrong motives. If it's not driven by benefitting the process, then I'm not sure what purpose it serves other than to make the process more difficult. Which serves no purpose. I have no issue with ID. Some recognized form of identification should be required. As long as it's required and documented for every voter in every location. Not ok for Joe Small Town to wave his neighbor through because he knows him.

Googballz 39 Posted April 1, 2014 I like what they did in Iraq for their elections after Sadam. After you vote, you get a purple dye mark on your hand. And they did all the voting in one day, if I recall correctly...and had a much higher turnout rate than we have ever had here.

phillybear 366 Posted April 1, 2014 We should consider something like the very peaceful vote they just had in Crimea. You show up, have a squad of Russian soldiers point guns at you, get to vote on the crucial issue with only two choices: A. Leave Ukraine B. Join Russia And...Bingo. And area of the world that is 60% Russian sympathizers votes 97% in favor of Joining Russia. Geez. I wonder who all those whacky liberals are that voted to Leave Ukraine. Wocka. Wocka. Wocka. Am I right? If you are friends with her do not tell her the first two descriptions I gave for her........ Yes, very heavy. Her act revolves around her making fun of her weight. And telling audience members that they 'want her'. And telling audience participants that she'll blow them in the parking lot after the show. She was pretty funny. Saw her up ion the Poconos last weekend.

JT 137 Posted April 1, 2014 You're right because speaking English and not relying on the government is way to much to ask for. No, they're just dumb requirements. So you would deny the vote to a citizen of this country for whom English is at best a second language? Along with the guy who lost his job 6 months ago and is on gov't assistance?
