++ UPDATE: Jamaal Charles - Unlikely to play but Gametime Decision

Recommended Posts

Hah! I own Charles and the team I am playing skyfed him ahead of me on waivers. . That will teach them for trying to screw with RepoPatrol.

How does everyone feel about this news.

Surprising. Here's the tweet from beat writer Adam Teicher.

Jamaal Charles is practicing with chiefs today. An interesting turn of events. Looked OK to me

I trust Teicher. He's been covering the Chiefs for years.

But, that being said, I still hate the offensive line and think the offense will struggle this year as a result. If Charles comes back soon, and you can sell high, I'd do it.

I keep hearing about the offensive line but it seems the analyst don't seem to mind it too much when Davis was slated to play. All I heard about was Davis being a new #1 back. Now that it's Charles that doesn't apply for some reason? Anyone who trades Charles is out of their minds.

This might be a sign that he will only miss 1 game. Im still low on charles as iv been for a month or so. Bad oline, yearly turnover at the top of the rb rankings, dinged up. Poster child for the shocking rb bust of the year at the top of the draft.

Rolled ankle moving boxes, now high ankle sprain. Could be a lost season in the end. I'd bench until he shows you something.

Davis is a good guy to own because he should be a very high level replacement that assumes approximately the same amount of workload as Charles. And I don't have a problem with an assertion that Davis could be a low-end RB1 when Charles is out, but that's about where I think Charles will be as well for the rest of the season, albeit slightly better than Davis. Most people took Charles as a Top 3 pick. I don't think there's any way Charles ends up near Top 3 value.

Don't trade him for peanuts, but I'd bail on Charles if you could get a good return for him.

Just who are you going to get better than a low end RB1 in return? That is the whole fallacy of trading Charles. No one is going to pay up like he is the #1 pick at this point so you are better off keeping him.

My thoughts? Either the Chiefs were reporting misinformation and he doesn't have a high ankle sprain or they're out of their minds to have their franchise player running on a high ankle sprain. Even if it's a mild sprain, they'd be nuts not to give him a week off and play it safe.

Well, it would depend on a lot of factors, but if you were suddenly RB rich due to some of these recent injuries or changes in situations, but were WR poor, I think targeting a top WR would be a good idea. The usual suspects, like Megatron or Demaryius would be worth it straight up. Or maybe Jordy Nelson with a potential RB2 like Lamar Miller or Steven Ridley thrown in.

But I agree, it's going to be very hard to move him immediately. If he comes back, say in Week 4, and tears up New England's lousy run D, then you might still be able to sell high.

You essentially have two choices: try to move him, hopefully for decent value, or sit on him and suffer through a middling season by Charles' lofty standards.

Don't know if he will play this week. Next week i would say is a certainty. Plus Davis is a risky start against Miami in the first place. Lowest scoring game of the week IMO.

Still love Charles going forward but didn't love him vs. Miami in the first place.

Seriously doubt it. I think that week 7 is the first time we're going to see any real return to action for him.

He was probably feeling a little less sore and they decided to test it in practice. Low ankle sprain, mild ankle sprain, doesn't matter. They'd be foolish to roll their franchise guy back out there so soon. Especially when they have a passable sub.

If he plays? Better than average odds he re-aggravates it worse and really goes on the shelf. Better be careful he can re-injure in practice as well. They've got to be out of their f*cking minds.

Or lying.

The guy that tweeted he is back and looked OK is a reporter, right? Seems like he saw him practice so I don't buy the conspiracy theory.

Yes, Adam Teicher. Long time Chiefs beat reporter. Formerly of the Kansas City Star, now with ESPN. He's a very trustworthy source.

Thanks. I buy that coaches play with the status of the players so as to make opponents game planning more difficult.

Not sure they are out pretending guys are practicing or forcing injured players to practice though, lol

Nah, Reid isnt tricky like that, he practices to practice, not to trick the media and other teams. It prob went like this.

"Jamaal, how ya feelin?"

"Ok coach, just want to get out there and test the ankle, see how it feels and stretch it a bit."

"alright, hey have you seen my chili dog?"

Check out what roto is saying...

Jamaal Charles (ankle) was officially limited in Thursday's return to practice. It's quite possible the Chiefs are just trying to confuse the situation for the Dolphins, but reporters present for practice noted that Charles was moving well, and even cutting in position drills. What's clear is that Charles does not have a traditional high-ankle sprain, if he has one at all. For now, he should be considered slightly less than 50-50 to play. Even if Charles did suit up against Miami, it's quite possible he'd be on a snap count. His status should be updated multiple times over the next 24 hours.

 very encouraging.

I am very happy that it appears Charles isn't seriously injured. However, since I have Davis to play in his place, I can see this being a total cluster F*** for the next few weeks trying to decide who plays. Think we may see Charles play in a limited fashion, with Davis getting plenty of work. In other word a time-share, rendering both fairly marginal at best. Selfishly I hope they give Charles at least a week off to get back to 100%. That 0 points really hurts from your RB1 spot.

The notion that Reid is trying to get Miami to have to "gameplan" for Charles and Davis is some overused cliche we always hear in these situation/

This is the modern day nfl....yes disinformation is always going to be used.....but Charles isn't in ir or been ruled out for any amount of time ...the phins will gameplan for the game rhe same way either way....there isn't anything Davis can do that Charles can't......if u think the fins are game planning any different, on the notion Charles could play, than they would otherwise....I think yet reaching

Seriously, I have Charles and Davis and was excited to play Davis this week. Please just give Charles an extra week off, so I can use Davis with confidence.

Gio or Charles ROS?

Gio. He's doing his best Marshall Faulk circa '99 impression.

Gio or Charles ROS?

I'm a Gio Fanboy, but considering Charles is at least practicing which means to me he may only miss a week or two at most, I still like Charles ROS.

It is rather close though considering the injury.

With sub 4 ypc and a backup they are getting involved?

Agreed... I have posted before... I think Hill will be the main ball carrier by mid season. Gio has a unique skill set... But 33 touches is way too many and I think JHill gets a nice piece of the pie in Cinci...

He's on pace for 320/1100+ rushing and 90/1100+ receiving (thru 2 games, I know). I think he becomes the 3rd rb in NFL history to hit 1000/1000. jmo.

Jamaal Charles (ankle, questionable) was limited in Chiefs practice Friday.

"He did OK," coach Andy Reid said after the workout. "He looked a little sore, but he did OK." Charles is shaping up as a game-time decision in Sunday's afternoon tilt with the Dolphins. Considering the game's late start and Charles' inability to practice fully, he won't be a recommended Week 3 option.

Reading between the lines, it looks to me like Jamaal will be doubtful for this week. However this ankle injury doesn't appear to be as serious as first thought and he should only miss a week of action (if any at all).
