Is This Mean?

Every year my BF and his sister go back to Pittsburgh for either Thanksgiving or Christmas.

Yes... I feel sorry for anyone that has to go to Pittsburgh...

I'm sure you posted this thread to entertain this ever so boring and slow bored, but I know there is seriousness in it too and I am probably the only one who is on your side. May be a chic thing or a big animal lover thing. Good luck with your cat and do tell how your bf reacts to his first class seat or does he know yet?

It's the way of this bored. We don't really have discussions, we just try to incite people to anger. :D

Thanks for the support though. I do appreciate it. And it's always nice to have another female opinion around here. (No offense Peenie and Naomi.)

He doesn't know yet... he won't find out until check-in. I'm sure he'll probably be laughing on the inside, while telling his sister how awful that was of me to do, and then silently thanking me for the peace and quiet he'll get from sitting alone.

Well then if that's how he is going to take it I would have done the same thing!

I stated if it ever got that bad I would euthanize if I couldn't find someone willing to care for it that way.

If I want a pet, I realize its not a child and should not require as much attention in that way as a child needs.

Sorry...its a pet...and a cat at that. There are thousands of them out there for free if I want another.

Oh, and I hate cats and am allergic to them so...pretty much wouldn't have one anyway.

There are millions of kids out there too. If you can give it away fine, but euthanizing for convenience is :nono:

Ok... after reading this, I'm convinced you didn't even read what I wrote. So, I'll help you out and put the stuff you missed in ALL CAPS.

B12 is given weekly, not only because she has trouble absorbing it, BUT BECAUSE IT HELPS STIMULATE HER APPETITE.

As far as the food goes, no... there is no high end food, that doesn't contain PRESERVATIVES, that I am aware of. She also seems to do better on a low fat, all meat diet, which doesn't exist commercially (except for raw) which she will not eat, and the Dr. is hesitant because of bacteria concerns. (On a side note: You should read up on some of the practices on the pet food industry... even the high end ones... and then you'd be praising me for feeding homemade.)

Pred is given twice a day because he feels it is easier on her liver to give her 2 smaller doses, than 1 large one.

Sure, I could probably hire somone, but that's a whole other hassle. Finding someone who isn't flaky, who is available over the holidays, who you can trust to follow directions and that you feel comfortable enough to allow access to your home, etc. But I do not feel I am being held hostage by my pet's care. That was never the issue here. You guys made it about that.

I read what you wrote, just don't agree with it. But if you are OK with the routine and limitations it imposes on your life, more power to you.

And I know the pet food industry is horrific. But it ain't much different from the people food industry.

It is a chick thing: you guys believe only one person can be loving/detailed enough to provide reasonable care for the cat. Clearly that is delusional.

No, wrong diagnosis. OM isn't seeking attention by feigning illness in her cat. I think she is what doctors call "cuckoo for cocoa puffs."

No, cuckoo for cocoa puffs, would be taking some random guy's advice off the internet, who isn't even a licensed practicing medical doctor, over my vet who is an internal specialist. But thanks for the advice anyway...

:smooches:

If you're taking your pet to "specialists", you are spending waaaaay too much money on it.

And then with all the fresh food and medicine...WAY too much money.

There are a lot of actual people have less $ spent on their care. Think about that

So now you're trying to shame me because I have the means to spend more $$$ on my pet's healthcare than most?

Please just stop. Since getting married and having a baby, you've turned into the new Nikki.

Too much in the sense that we are talking about a house pet and there are plenty of children out there in the world who don't get near this level of care

Knowing OM is a liberal, I'm outraged she would spend this type of money on a cat, when there are real people who could benefit much more from the care. Typical libtard I guess.

Actually, the initial visit to the specialist was more expensive, but subsequent visits are treated as follow up exams, and cost the same as our family vet.

The fresh food (even with the supplements added) works out to be about the same or maybe slightly less, than decent quality commercial cat food. It's just obviously more time consuming.

Prednisolone is relatively cheap. We get 90 tablets for about $25. Slippery Elm is about $20 a bottle and lasts for about 3 months. The expensive medication is the luekeran, which runs us $100/mo.

Every year my BF and his sister go back to Pittsburgh for either Thanksgiving or Christmas. Usually, they try to alternate holidays every year; Thanksgiving one year and Christmas the next. (I stay home, because we have a sick pet that has a complicated medication routine.)

Somehow they ended up doing Christmas the last two years in a row... so my BF had mentioned that he wanted to go for Thanksgiving this year; because not only does he end up missing X-Mas with me, but my birthday, as well.

Of course, she wanted to go for Chistmas, and booked the tickets without asking... so, he's going to be gone AGAIN for X-Mas and my birthday. And I suspect she did it on purpose... but that's a whole 'nother story.

So, I called the airline and upgraded his ticket to first class and left her in coach.

Mean? Maybe... but I feel better.

I don't know if it's mean but it sure is funny.

Also, on the cat. I think it's great that you take a little bit more time and effort to make sure your cat is well taken care of. Most people wouldn't bother.

The "it's just a dog/cat" attitude is pretty focked up imo. If that's how you feel don't get one. They deserve better.

So are you suggesting she shouldn't dote on her cat and instead give to the children out there? What happens if she does both? Again if you don't have kids, don't care to have any of your own personally, then your pet becomes your kid in every way that matters which means you take the responsibility to make sure it is loved and taken care of, including medically if that happens. Otherwise, please don't own a pet. Just stick soley to having kids.

I have two cats and a dog. My wife treats them le royalty but even they don't have it that good. And I'm a good dog owner, I take her on lots of long walks and hikes and all that. Cats I kind of suck at, I'll admit, but I just leave em alone and that's really all they want.

Meh, whatever, it's your choice what to do but I just think its good to keep in mind that no matter how much you dote on it it is still an animal at the end of the day :dunno:

....as are humans. All living beings should be cared for and loved and deserve to have a great life. I can't stand snakes and would never own one, even the small one. But I don't like seeing them put in small aquariums when it is obvious it needs more room. I've heard of people who do the same type of care for their snakes, which is technically not considered a pet in the same sense that our furries, feathered, and fuzzies are because they don't show any connection/love for you. It's a different feel, but I wouldn't tell that owner that he's nuts to babysit his snake because to him, that is his kid. You just have to be an animal lover to understand that, and those of us who are have just as much compassion for humans. I go out of my way to help when I see someone in need, and I'm not made of money like everyone here seems to be. :D Animals are animals when it comes down to it and I think we should help all types the best we can, the best we can.

So you don't completely suck at being a pet owner... ;) Personally I'm more of a dog person but can tolerate and care for cats as well as I do take care of my friend's cats when she goes on vacation. The big negative for me with cats is the cat box. Hers doesn't smell and you really don't see it but still.....I know what's clumped under there needing to be scooped out. :/

Using that logic no pet food or care should ever be provided.

While a little excessive with the pet, i get the impression that if she wanted to go she would. it seems assumed that OM is not traveling for bf's family gatherings.

OM asks us if what she did was mean. so either:

1) she does not know if it is mean

or

2) she is letting us know that she can be a biatch when she wants to be (or may be feeling a touch guilty for going over the top)

three dynamics are in play:

- BF and sis: sharing familial obligations

- OM and bf: bf dismisses om for family

- sis and OM: vying for control of bf

OM is essentially pissed at sis for manipulating bf and passive-aggressively gets back at her by upgrading bf's ticket.. OM, why are you not pissed at BF for not telling her to kick sand? why is he off the hook for caving? she was presumptuous in buying the ticket for xmas and should have spoken to him about it before doing so. i am assuming that they spoke, and she know he wanted to go (and went) for thanksgiving. he was not obligated to make the appearance, despite her paying. i also think you can give a rat's ass about xmas and more about your birthday.

Christ, I read this entire thread.. I need help, anyway, this thread is a joke right? People don't really play these kind of stupid fkn games in grown up relationships do they? I guess this is the kind of sh!t you can worry about when you don't have kids and aren't married. If I remember right OM is around my age, late 30's. I could understand this kind of silly sh!t from a new couple in their early 20's but, man, I just can't relate to this kind of silliness.

And seriously, put the fkn cat down, women and their disgusting fkn cats..... Cooking meals for a cat? B12 shots? Being held hostage in your house...
