Best "rock voice" ever?

Recommended Posts

That focker's voice was unbelievable! :shocking: I mean seriously... it's like once in several generations comes a voice that your like wwwaaooowww... I used to sing quite a bit and have some decent pipes, so I really listen to someones voice and this guy... especially when you hear it live..

As far as a "hard rock" voice goes... I seriously don't think you can beat RJD.

Love this song. One of my favs from my university days. I have Holy Diver in vinyl. Good times in the dorm.

This clip sounds better than the one you posted--sound quality.

Yeah but wanted to showcase how good his voice is even live. You can mix almost anyone good.

Freddie Mercury, hands down

I agree as far as vocal creativity, range, ability....but for me it's his occasional ghey moments / songs that taint his position. In my opinion, as much as I love Freddie and Queen, rock is more of a macho thing over an occasional ghey pride parade.

I'm sure this post will get me in trouble with some politically correct twit here, but who cares.

Listen to his song Quicksand Jesus. Aren't many, if any, who can sing it.

Ronnie James Dio is hands down the greatest for me. Others I've really admired is Geoff Tate, Steven Perry and Meatloaf.

Steve Perry & Meatloaf in the same sentence........things that make you go hmmm. I like Mr. Loaf's passion / intensity, but he's not really the finest cut of meat.

I really only know Geoff from "Silent Lucidity".....very good there. I'd have to listen to a lot more of Queensryche (sp) to form an honest opinion.

RJD is always the first to come to mind. His work with Rainbow and Sabbath was remarkable, the solo stuff, not so much.

Other special vocalists: MJK, Geoff Tate, Ray Alder, Derek St. Holmes, early Klaus Meine (before Rock You Like a Hurricane robbed him of his dignity), David Coverdale, Mikael Akerfeldt

Very cool seeing folks say Ian Anderson. I thought I was his only fan here.

Bruce Dickinson is another GREAT choice.

One of my favorites just happens to be the guy with the most range of them all, Axl Rose.

If Meine lost his dignity for RYLH, what did Coverdale lose for Is This Love?

Acknowledged. Have you ever heard the Scorpions first album, called Action, or Lonesome Crow? His voice was spectacular. Michael Schenker was 13 when they started recording and 15 when it finally got released. Amazing album.
