I didn't mention emissions, but can you clarify: are you saying newer full-size trucks have comparable mileage to a typical sedan? If true, that still doesn't negate trucks impairing other motorists' view and truck driver dooshiness.

The future is EV.

How can one compare full sized trucks to sedans for gas mileage? I'm sorry if you thought I was equating the two.

All I was saying is that newer trucks have better gas mileage than they used to.

My 2006 Tacoma PreRunner only gets 12-13 mpg city. It's a 4.0l 6 cyl.

The newer Ford F150Eco Boost 2.7l twin turbo supposedlt gets 20mpg :dunno: (plus, it's a lot heavier than my Taco, so good for Ford, I suppose)

My Taco is bullet proof, to where the Ford is already riddled with problems

It really doesn't matter. You have an issue with "truck drivers". Nothing I can say will change your view, nor do I expect it to. Just give me good advice when I ask you on the best way to ween oneself off of paxil. (for a friend, obviously)

Admittedly, I've had many bad experiences with truck drivers, specifically those in full size trucks and SUVs. But I know they aren't all dooshbags..

Wean the Paxil slowly, under the supervision of your (friend's) mental health professional.

you are most likely the common denominator in those bad experiences, most super douche bag cyclists are.

meh. My wife is the kindest person in the world, and she has even noted that drivers of big trucks are sometimes "bullies" because the can be.

I think size is the big thing.

Im looking for my next vehicle at some point. Probably a Toyota Tacoma 4 door. That size seems about right as my wife will have to drive it some and she does not want to drive any of the bigger trucks.

I just made the switch to a Tacoma over the summer. I'd been thinking about it for the last year or two, and I love it. Should've done it sooner.

I've never driven a ford, GMC, or dodge. Dad had a chevy back in the day. It was a good truck. I just ALWAYS hear bad things about fords. People always say ford stands for Found On Road Dead. Hell my MIL is going to be trading her brand new ford in next year cause it's been giving her so many problems that the ford dealership says isn't covered by the warranty and she hasn't even had it a year. So I'm not wanting to deal with that headache

There is a dealer not to far from me couple towns over. It's a Ford and Toyota place. Same company, just 2 different buildings/lots right next to each other. A few years back, the mechanics on the Toyota side went on strike. They said they were only doing oil changes and simple maintenance jobs, where the ford guys next door were constantly doing major jobs. However the two groups were getting paid, the Ford mechanics were making double the money the Toyota guys were making because of the amount of work that needed to be done.

I can give you advice on the Paxil. I did it a year ago with one of the SSRI's (forget which now, I tried several.)

I went cold turkey. That isn't a good idea. You get "brain zaps", feels like a tiny electrical storm to the brain. Leave you foggy for a second or two.

What I ended up doing (keep in mind I had just moved to china and had no real doctors available) was cut the dose in half for two or three weeks. Then I cut that in half for two or three weeks.

Then I flushed em down the toilet. No problems since.

You can expect pretty unstable mood for a bit. Random anxiety, and up and down on the mood.

Or he can talk with his doctor. In general, ~10% dose reduction per month is recommended. But there are different formulations of the drug, and different schedules based on how long you have taken it.

I had only been on Paxil for about 6 months when I went off it cold turkey. I know you're not supposed to do it that way, but I knew I sidnt need it, and wanted it out of my life.

I had a few brain zaps, as TBBOM mentioned.

Other than that, no issues.

My stupid primary care doc put me on it. I'm sure she was getting kick backs from the pharmas.

I have no opinion.

But to reviews it is not. US News rated the 2017 as 6th best full sized pickup out of the 6th they ranked. Gave it a 7.3 rating. 5th was the Silverado which they gave a 8.6. The top being the f150 at 8.9. So basically rating the top 5 all pretty close and the Tundra dead last by a big margin.

Also looking on the interwebs the Tundra gets the worst MPG by far. 13/18 vs the norm of 18/24...

So you may be alone on this.

Tundra's are known for quality and resale value.

Timely thread. We're looking for a gently used mid-sized SUV to replace my wife's 2001 Suburban (so, a little smaller but still 3 rows). Went and looked at a few, Didn't like the Honda Pilot interior, at least the ones we saw. Liked the Highlander with the Limited or XLE (?) higher packages. GMC Acadia looked worth considering. Acura MDX was nice and, while more expensive, not as much more as I expected. Probably still more than we want to spend.

Thoughts or experiences?

One that intrigued us that we hadn't planned to look at was a Buick Enclave. Sux or anyone else -- opinions? Nice interior and overall look. They had a 2014 with 29K miles for $28K, loaded. I think we'd be looking at $7-10K more for a comparable Highlander. Wife had last one 15 years (bought it new). I've never really considered a Buick but the dealer sorta positioned it behind Cadillac in the GM luxury hierarchy.

TIA$#@!

Enclaves get great reviews and resale.

Nice interior too.

4runners are the standard for Full Size SUV's as far as reliability and resale.

I bought my 06 Tundra 7 years ago to the day today. I got a pretty good deal but I still see that make and model being offered for sale for as much or more than I paid. My wife bought a new 4Runner earlier this year. Every Toyota dealership we went to in my truck practically begged me to trade it in.

What 'kick backs' do you think docs receive from pharmaceutical companies? Especially on a drug as old as Paxil.

Bought my tundra for 23K. Dam good focking deal for only 20K miles on it. Got 17.5K for it for being 9 years old. I can't find a dam tundra anymore for that price to save my life. Of course that was back when gas was expensive as hell and everyone was trading in trucks for cars. Now I can go get a nice 2015 convertible camaro with less than 30K miles on it for 23K but can't get a 2014 tundra with 60K miles on it for anything less than 32K. They hold their value extremely well but dam it sucks trying to get a new, nicer truck for a decent price around here. Prob just gonna have to bite the bullet and pay 40K for one even though I'll be trading it in in 4 years for a new one

Most likely buying an Impala this week. I rented one and it was a really nice ride. Smooth, very quiet. I am a car guy..not much for SUV's.

Gonna go for the 6 cylinder. Car gets great reviews on most sites and GM is doing a 20% giveback off MSRP.

So Impala it's gonna be.

I think it starts here and goes a little deeper. (I was prescribed Paxil 12 years ago)

I don't know how widespread it is but I believe it happens. Meals, tickets, vacations under he guise of speaking engagements, etc.

Seeing the civilian side of it this is true. Hell years ago while my BIL was in chiro school my sis was a drug rep. They gave them free meals and free vacations all the dam time. Outer Banks was the big place they sent them to since it was around here in SC/NC

This is tough. Really should be broken into two categories, Shittiest Truck and Shittiest Car. Some of these make good cars but trucks and vice versa.

I meant the new one.

I haven't gotten a new one yet. Insurance gave me 17.5 for my old truck I totaled. When I bought it I only pad 23 for it. Can't find that kind of price for one around here. I think it has to do with location cause I searched the dealership in San Antonio where I bought it and they have a ton for 22-28 that are normally 32+ here. I didn't want spend too much when I'm trading it in in a couple years

Sure. This is why I don't go to drug rep dinners, and we don't allow them in our office. Plus, I always check generic substitution permissible on prescriptions.

I don't think generic SSRIs were even available 12 years ago, and most docs wouldn't be so in tune as to sub it once it was. Not because we are receiving financial incentive to do so, but we have enough things to do with our time that the cost of medication is a low priority. I'm happy if I can get a patient to take their meds, period.

Yea I said I might just have to bite the bullet and pay that much for one. I haven't gotten one yet. But if I trade it in in 4 years which I plan on doing it's for a brand new, graduation present to myself. Think a 60K truck

There are many regulations against pharmaceutical company 'gifts' nowadays. But I agree the problem exists in the private world far more than the larger academic centers where I've worked and trained.

I'd avoid any doctor that provides cash-only/nonreimbursed products/services, like herbals/nutraceuticals/cosmetic medicine/etc. In general, the better businessperson the doctor is, the less I trust them.

Are there any natural alternatives to Paxil and Xanax that work? I do well with half a Xanax, but I'm running out of them (and I'd like to not take them, if possible). I've been taking St. John's wort for a couple months and it may be doing something (nothing major), but I think it's causing me to put on weight. If there is something natural that works, does that mean it's just as bad as a prescription drug, side-effect wise?

Oh no doubt. This was happening though like early 2000s when my sis was a rep for Allegra. She actually made pretty good money doing that. A pretty, blonde haired girl selling drugs, offering free meals and vacations? Yea she moped up and got all kinds of bonuses from the company

On my grandpa's 90th birthday,

I asked him how he managed to live so long.

He said, "Well, I don't drink or smoke. I had a triple bypass in my 60's, I've always stayed active and I always had a really good doctor."

He went sky diving an hour later.

I'll always remember that last line since I've struggled to find a good family doctor in MI.

I had a colonoscopy 10 years ago at Northwestern Medical Center and the specialists and nurses there were all really good. I may have to start looking for a primary care doc at Northwestern. I'm not convinced any exist around here.

What was this thread about?

What percentage of your combined annual income did that cost? Didn't you say you make some piddling salary? :dunno:

At the job yea I don't make much. However I've got other means of income. Which was why I could take a smaller paying job so I didn't have to travel an hour to make decent cash. But I got a good deal on the truck. Fell in love with it when I drove it. Ride is smooth as hell.

I decided to delete that post and not give you a hard time; must be the Christmas spirit? Anyway, I deleted it as soon as I hit Post. It only existed for like 5 seconds. How did you quote it?
