Mike FF Today 609 Posted April 4, 2017 This impacts Houston more than any other team. Tom Savage, c'mon down!
weepaws 2,468 Posted April 4, 2017 His descion is based on his health going forward, and nothing more. This will force the Texans to look at a Qb in this draft.
thePRO 78 Posted April 4, 2017 Knew this would happen. Had Dallas released him in March, things may have played out differently. I said the more time goes on, the more likely he'll just retire. It's gonna be fun watching Houston and Denver struggle at QB. While it was smart not trading for an old Romo, those two teams were basically a year long healthy Romo away from contending now. Big risk, big reward. Patriots look to be the favorite by miles.

weepaws 2,468 Posted April 4, 2017 I think Romo would have retired no matter the situation. His body is done taking the beating. My ranking of Rothlisburger will be changed based on him talking about retiring after last season. I don't see myself having A Brown ranked any higher than third, because of the same thing. You can only take the beating these people take for so long. Romo as truly made the better choice.
weepaws 2,468 Posted April 4, 2017 I think the Patriots are easily the best team in the AFC, and I don't think it's all that close. Coaching is my number one reason. I think the Steelers coaching staff is horrible and truly over rated. And KC simply doesn't have the talent to compete with the Pats. And Oaklands Defence last season showed me they still have a long away to go, and if the Broncos can get any decent Qb play they the Broncos should be the best team in their divison this season. And I think Cooper might just be over rated.

polecatt 404 Posted April 5, 2017 As a Cowboys fan Romo has been one of my favorite players over the past decade. It was a pleasure to watch him play. While the team didn't enjoy championship success, I remember the struggles between Aikman and Romo. He was a good QB and made the Cowboys competitive. From a fantasy stand point not much changes because he hasn't been fantasy relevant for 2 years. For several seasons though Romo was the textbook example of a solid starting QB1 you didn't have to reach to draft. It's been a pleasure to watch Tony play and I wish him well in the broadcast booth.
thePRO 78 Posted April 5, 2017 Miles? I don't think they're all that far ahead of Pittsburgh, Kansas City, and Oakland. Miles might have been over-exaggerating it, but I really don't see any of those teams beating the Patriots in the playoffs. Coaching is a main reason and just the ability to make clutch plays. Of those 3 listed, I think Pittsburgh has the best chance because of all that offense, but it's been proven Tomlin can't put together a game plan to stop Brady. KC has the defense, but I still don't see Alex Smith leading them to a win over NE. Oakland is interesting. Offense is one of the better ones, but that defense can be questionable. I also don't see them repeating what they did last season. I wouldn't be surprised if they win 10 or less next season.
Gepetto 989 Posted April 5, 2017 As a Cowboys fan I appreciate the enjoyment and wins Tony Romo was responsible for. I wish him luck and look forward to listening to him broadcast, and bonus, no more Phil Simms. Romo will always be a Dallas Cowboy. Personally, I would have played Romo when he was healthy last year and again this year. Dak should have to wait. Romo's a superior quarterback to Dak. Dak could play 12+ years even if he had to wait 3 years, just as other QBs have done before.

But I really have questions about whether his body can take the pounding. And If he has a career for after football lined up, I really dont see why he doesnt take the opportunity. Lots of players struggle in this area when they retire. I sincerely wish him luck. Nice career Tony! it's been fun watching you.
CornKobb 48 Posted April 5, 2017 Cowboys fan here.....Romo is a likable guy who throws a beautiful ball. Was a stat monster. Made some amazing plays. And was 2-7 in Win or go Home games. Danny White went to 3 straight NFC Championship games and you would think Romo who is retiring is Roger freakin Staubach.

There are certainly some holes, ILB and RB and perhaps a 3 tech DL, but my answer is go back and watch the first half of their game against Carolina. THAT'S the Raiders team you'll see in 2017. redsrback 30 Posted April 6, 2017 Romo was terrible. Man-Crush with Whitten stunted the growth of Dez early in career. White did have the benefit of things around him. Shame on you for even mentioning Staubachs name with any Dallas QB i have seen. Staubach had 2 terds at RB- Preston Pearson and Robert Newhouse.
sirensong 111 Posted April 6, 2017 Romo was terrible. Man-Crush with Whitten stunted the growth of Dez early in career. comments like this make me wonder if the poster actually watches football. romo was hurt for almost all of dez's rookie season. year 2 (normally the 'sophomore slump') was 63 catches for 928 yards and 9 TDs. years 3-6 averaged almost 150 targets, over 90 catches, 1300+ yards, and 14 TDs...in a 'hit the open read' offense instead of a force feeding scheme. and while staubach only had a HOF RB for 2 of his 4 SB campaigns, he had the doomsday defense for all of them. meanwhile, romo had one of the worst defenses in the history of the 16-game era...and still had the team playoff-relevant every year. The OC has just as much input on who gets the ball as the QB does. some plays are designed to get the ball to the TE, some are designed to get the ball to the WR and some to the RB. Usually your first read is your primary WR, your second read is your secondary WR. And Romo is the sort of QB who wont throw to a WR if he is frequently not in the place he is supposed to be, so his method of play may actually have made Dez a better WR because he runs the routes and does his reads the way he is supposed to. So what your saying is Romos defense was bad and had to throw a lot and Staubachs numbers were based on a gr8 defense. Boy , come back when u grow up. I cursed many of games watching Romo wanting him to throw to Dez instead of dinking to Whitten and a few choice words for Garretts 500 style of game play. I cursed many of games watching Romo wanting him to throw to Dez instead of dinking to Whitten and a few choice words for Garretts 500 style of game play. this is getting funnier and funnier. i watched staubach play and i watched romo play--they were eerily similar in a lot of ways. but if you don't understand that staubach had an overwhelming advantage in terms of organization, coaching, and supporting cast, then you don't know very much about the game of football. you understand that the cowboys were a championship-caliber team for several years before staubach arrived, right? they had gone to the playoffs 4 straight years, and played in the NFL championship in '66 and '67. in '69, morton had them as the best offense in the league. staubach wasn't even the starter when they finally went to the super bowl in '70--they went to SB 5 platooning staubach and morton. romo took over a championship team that was dominant even without him, right? oh, wait... R8RMick 242 Posted April 21, 2017 I'm not going to ask you. You told me all I need to know last season, when you played up Walford. Apologies, just saw this. Walford was in a nasty ATV accident just prior to training camp last summer where he gashed up his knee pretty well. First reports were it to be a minor injury and he did indeed make it to camp on time. As the year went on, with his numbers mirroring his rookie campaign, it became evident he wasn't right. The team did ultimately confirm that injuries from the accident did set him back. I do know his catch-per-target ratio was up around 63%, which isn't bad. Maybe the fact he was behind caused Carr to lose confidence in him early? Another aspect is the Raiders threw to their RBs A LOT last year. Obviously they want the TE position to be significant, especially in the red zone where the TE has traditionally been a big part of the offense, as they brought in Jared Cook. That was an interesting move, as it now precludes them from most likely drafting a TE. That's a vote of future confidence for Walford, considering how deep this draft is at TE. Sorry for the bad prediction. In all fairness though, I advised folks to draft Walford as their BACKUP TE lol.
Frozenbeernuts 1,652 Posted April 21, 2017 Meh. Walford is decent. Nothing special from what I have seen. A lot of decent tight ends out there
