Big Guy 1,400 Posted April 2, 2020 I loved the Wilbury's, but their not really a Supergroup to me, not one of them played bass, drums, keyboards. Pretty much just an all star group of incredible musicians having a good time. I'd go with ASIA
FeelingMN 273 Posted April 2, 2020 I would have said Wilburys but since I can't....The Raconteurs.
DonS 3,071 Posted April 2, 2020 The Firm with Paul Rodgers and Jimmy Page was pretty good.

jerryskids 5,213 Posted April 2, 2020 Personally I think the Wilburys are on the Mount Rushmore of overrated. Among my favorites are CSN/CSNY, ELP, Blind Faith.

Big Guy 1,400 Posted April 2, 2020 A Supergroup is when great players from great bands come together to form a Super Group. Those players should also play the needed instruments to play ALL of the music. So IMO neither the Traveling Wilbury's or Damn Yankees don't really qualify.
Big Guy 1,400 Posted April 2, 2020 this is an interesting topic this also is an entertaining video, even though I don't agree with the Wilbury's

tanatastic 2,061 Posted April 2, 2020 The hell is a supergroup? Since Ive never heard of a single one in this thread it has to mean something else than just “a really good band”. Is it like a collaboration between already famous artists?

The quality of said artists is open to debate, though.

Nugent was a regional thing. Two of his three popular songs were a slight step above a Weird Al parody. And Styx? A song about spacemen and “”Babe” are their claims to fame. Not super. 1

He was THE guitar hero of that era until EVH showed up. Hey Baby, Stranglehold, Cat Scratch Fever, Wango Tango, Free For All. Styx did Renegade, Blue Collar Man and Come Sail Away before the Robot song and that other lame stuff.

Cat Scratch Fever, Wango Tango? Kinda childish. I’d be embarrassed for someone if they still listened to that. Also, Come Sail Away was a very good song till they botched the ending with the spaceman crap.

Cat Scratch and Wango were awesome if you were a freshman in HS when they came out. I don’t queue them up now, but back then, they were fun rock songs.

DonS 3,071 Posted April 3, 2020 I'm sure most of you won't know any of the members of Sons of Apollo, but it's a good lineup. Mike Portnoy - drums Billy Sheehan - bass Ex-Dream Theater keyboardist Some guitarist that's been in other bands and is quite talented.
BufordT 371 Posted April 3, 2020 .......for me at least. Does a supergroup have to be at least great (not good) to be considered a "supergroup"? If yes, then this thread is a superfail.
DonS 3,071 Posted April 3, 2020 Sh1tty end of Styx reminds me of sh1tty end of Chicago. I'm not a fan of Chicago, but their early stuff is completely different from the "popular" Peter Cetera sappy ballad crap fest.

Personally Free For All is my favorite album,Meatloaf sang lead vocals on five of the tracks, here's my favorite.
